Article ITT I attempt to review every movie I've seen.

Here is a not-that-known movie which i personally enjoyed: "Night of Terror" by William Tannen. If you have the time/interest you should check it out. ;)

EDIT: oh sorry, OSVG already posted a recommendation.

Haven't heard of it, if I can get a hold of it I'll check it out.

Also recommend away, there are like 3 or 4 I haven't reviewed yet. I'm just happy to see new faces in this thread.

Title: Street Fighter
Year: 1994
Country of Origin: US
Director: Steven E. de Souza

Story: A mad man wants to take over the world.

Review: This movie is a little depressing as it is Ra?l Juli? final film, he played M. Bison. This is depressing because Ra?l Juli? is better than this movie and deserves to a have a better final performance. This isn't a good movie and is one of two terrible fighting Video Game movies to come out in the Mid-90s...the other being Mortal Kombat. There are a lot of issues with this one, though the obvious one is acting and the script...which are both terrible. Skip this one.

Title: Kung Pow! Enter the Fist
I've been secretly looking forward this films sequel for the last eight years...but I just can't give this a high score.

I loved this movie!

If Hollywood would please stop remaking classics-they-shouldn't-be-allowed-to-touch-and-get-to-work on this thank you...

'I mean, Holy Crap man, he just punched a whole through that guy' :O

According to IMDB, it's coming out this year.

Title: Annie Hall
Year: 1977
Country of Origin: US
Director: Woody Allen

Story: "My grammy never gave gifts. She was too busy getting raped by Cossacks."

Review: Yes, this is the greatest Rom-com of all times. Yes, you actually have to sit through this movie if you want to know anything about film. Yes, this is Woody Allen's best film. Did it deserve the Best Picture Oscar over Star Wars?

That's a good question, Annie Hall is an amazing and wholly imaginative film. I have to say that it is a close race between the two films...but yes, you have to watch this

The worst comic to movie-movie I have ever seen, Wanted

Wow...you really want a Fight Club review.

Fight_Club_poster.jpg

Title: Fight Club
Year: 1999
Country of Origin: US
Director: David Fincher

Story: I am Jack's Medulla Oblongata.

Review: Ok, here is the basic jist of the story: We have an unnamed corporate drone of a protagonist, who happens to be an insomniac. He finds out through some strange coincidence that by going to support groups and crying he manages to sleep. By support groups I don't mean ones for insomnia or for being a corporate drone, I mean the ones where the people are usually dying. Anyway at one of these meetings he meets a woman who is going to these meetings for pure schadenfreudic pleasure. Later out protagonist meets a nihilist named Tyler Durden and a downward spiral to oblivion begins.

Well I have to say that is my most in depth plot synopses I've done yet and for good reason, I really like this movie...like I've seen this 50 times or so. No joke, I've seen this movie 50 damn times. It's a perfect storm of talent, story and money that rarely happens. This film is a rarity, it's a type of project that should have been an independent production, but managed to get some big names and money behind it. This is rare because most studios wouldn't drop $65 million on this kind of story.

On a stylistic aspect, Fincher did a top-notch job in the directors chair and cemented himself as one of my favorite American directors with this one. The electronic style soundtrack is well used and does well to accentuate scenes that thematically all over the place. The script is well written and very well put together. All the actors involved to a great job in their roles.

When examining the film on a thematic level, things begin to get more interesting. The basic message of the film has to do with Nihilism and not many films are will to tackle a topic such as that. On top of the Nihilism there is also heavy anti-corporate and anti-consumerism themes playing through the film. Not to mention themes of Self-loathing, Self-deception and redemption. It's a movie that is fun to break down to its smallest parts.

So yeah, I wholeheartedly recommend this film.

so much awesome packed into one movie

The worst comic to movie-movie I have ever seen, Wanted

Wanted is probably one of the more divisive films out there. Some people really liked the film while other thought it was the worst piece of crap ever committed to film. I'll get a review for it soon, but I want to tackle some of the other films by Wanted's director Timur Bekmambetov.

Title: Night Watch
Year: 2004
Country of Origin: Russia
Director: Timur Bekmambetov

Story: A strange film that has to do with an endless struggle between two factions of "The Others", one faction represents light while the other represents darkness.

Review: We are introduced to this millennia old struggle through our protagonist, who got caught up in this mess after he tried to get his girlfriend back through potions and magical incantations...or something like that. To tell the truth I'm not to sure what happened in this film, possibly because I've only seen it one. It's sort of a Vampire film and at the same time an allegory of the Cold War. So yeah...

Day_Watch_theatrical_poster.jpg

Title: Day Watch
Year: 2006
Country of Origin: Russia
Director: Timur Bekmambetov

Story: I found an apt discretion for the film on a review on IMDB, "A massive undertaking of alien proportions. Dreamlike, confusing."

Review: It is a difficult to describe the plot of this film with out spoiling the last one and you'll want to see Night Watch just to watch this one. The film is a strange amalgamation of action, drama and suspense. Apparently the film is suppose to be a political allegory against Putin style politics. This film is surprisingly imaginative in a visual sense, with several gravity defying stunts. It's a film that really needs to be seen to be believed.

Oh, here is the trailer...looks a little like Wanted, doesn't it:

Transmorphers.jpg

Title: Transmorphers
Year: 2007
Country of Origin: US
Director: Leigh Scott

Story: The Mockbuster that makes Transformers 2 look like Citizen Kane.

Review: If you've ever been to a blockbuster then chances are you have come across an Asylum Film. The Asylum is a film studio which attempts to capitalize off of the success of big name releases. In the case of Transmorphers, it's pretty obvious that it was designed to capitalize off of the Transformers name. These films are usually released while the big named film is still in theaters and people mistakenly rent it expecting the actual film. I personally find the whole thing pretty funny.

Anyway, I have to say without a doubt in my mind that this is the worst film that I have ever seen. Yep, this is it...the worst film that I have ever seen. It's so bad that it transcends the "so bad it's good" category and lands into the category called "so bad it's a crime against humanity".

Wanted_film_poster.jpg

Title: Wanted
Year: 2008
Country of Origin: US
Director: Timur Bekmambetov

Story: Office drone learns that he is the son of a great assassin and basically has superpowers.

Review: I've read the Millar comic series Wanted after watching this movie and I now understand why the film was done the way it was. Millar's comic is pretty much unfilmable in both story and presentation, the protagonist in the comic is a sarcastic and violent sociopath, a character that the audience wouldn't connect with in a million years. So if the property were to ever see the light of day there needed to be massive rewrites on both story and character. How successful were the rewrites?

Well, it depends on who you ask. When I talk about this film with people I usually get the feeling that you either loved this movie or hated. I personally thought it was just alright. It was entertaining, but is lacking on both an intellectual and emotional level...which normally wouldn't matter in an action film. Though movie doesn't set itself up as your standard action film, it presents itself as a "smart" action film. As if it has something to say about our society and culture, but it doesn't or at least it doesn't say anything original.

Tropic Thunder

Tropic_thunder_ver3.jpg

Title: Tropic Thunder
Year: 2008
Country of Origin: US
Director: Ben Stiller

Story: "I know who I am. I'm the dude playing the dude disguised as another dude."

Review: Probably one of the best films about making movies out there. The plot follows four superstars and a nobody who get lost out in the middle of the golden triangle...which is the area that produces a large bulk of the worlds heroin supply. It was a surprisingly funny film and probably the best thing Ben Stiller has ever done.

I liked wanted before I read the comic, but once I read it, no so much. Like you said it would be difficult to do it, but they nearly did it with Watchmen

Well Watchmen was a special case and as you said, they "nearly" pulled it off. Wanted was a horse of another color. Not only would it have been more expensive to do an adaptation that was closer to the source material. Also, it would have been a far riskier production. The Comic series is far darker and more violent than the film...which doesn't sell as well.

the-signal-horror-movie-poster.jpg

Title: The Signal
Year: 2008
Country of Origin: US
Director: David Bruckner, Dan Bush, Jacob Gentry

Story: A mysterious signal is broadcasted throughout all television, radio and call phone transitions and it's making everyone a little crazy.

Review: This isn't a zombie movie and that's a good thing...a very good thing. The film is split into three segments that follow a story arch involving three characters. Each segment is done by a separate writer/director and as such each segment has a different tone. This can be pretty off putting and truth be told not all the segments are equal in quality. Still I found this to be an entertaining film that is at time scary, funny and profound.
