Alright folks, the time for the TF2 league is nigh, and team sign ups are coming shortly. So, I'm making a team. But not just ANY team... It's Team DreadNought.*

HEY YOU!

YES, YOU!

I know what you're out there thinking. I can read your mind. You're thinking "Dread, I want to join a team for the tf2 league because it sounds like fun! The problem is, I've never done competitively tf2, and I think I probably suck!"

NO PROBLEM.

You want to join a team, but you don't know anything about competitive tf2? that's great! I've done a good deal of competitive play, and I'm NOT looking for people who are 'the best of the best'. I'm looking for enthusiastic team players who are willing to learn.

One of the first things you learn in competitive tf2 is that communication is absolutely key, and I've certainly seen mediocre players that communicate well take out awesome players who don't care about the team. This team is all about teamwork.

I will be taking the role of the team medic. While those who know me know I rarely play medic on eGO servers, it's all I play competitively.

So, What are we looking for? Any position below that is bolded, we need.

Team Roster:

1. Pocket Soldier: Whisker Biscuit

2. Roaming Soldier: Iratedonnie

3. Demoman: Shadohunter

4. Scout/Utility: [Typhus]

5. Scout/Utility: naku_vamp

6. Medic: Dreadmaker

PLUS, 3 reserve players. The reservists can be any of the above classes, although at least one medic and one soldier is preferred.

Reservist 1: KhaoticOrd3r

Reservist 2: Watersnake

Reservist 3:

In terms of Geographic location, while it isn't fully necessary, because my flaky internet is usually the most reliable in the evening, players from North America will be given preference. Also, most practices will likely be in the evenings.

As far as practices go, we will have them occasionally. You can't learn to work as a team if you don't know your teammates and how they work best.

So, are you interested in learning about TF2 competition? Are you interested in having a good time? Are you interested in winning this TF2 league? Then either post in this thread, or send me a PM.

Looking forward to killing with you!

*Note on the name: a Dreadnought is actually a number of things. Firstly, and most recognizably, it was a very prominent ship in 20th century naval combat. It's also a type of guitar. It's also the name of a ship in EVE online. It's also the name of a ship in Final Fantasy II.

More important than all of those, however, it has 'dread' in it, and last I checked, making 'dread' was my job. Hence, DreadNought.

This sound like fun...I can play a decent Soldier if you need one. I can play Demo and Medic ok too.

Alright, let me answer a bunch of questions at once.

First, here's a little bit about the roles, just to make it easier.

The Pocket soldier stays with the medic. Always. This is the medic's protection throughout the match, and the soldier/med team is generally referred to as 'the combo' in competition slang.

The roaming soldier's job is to flank the enemy. Basically, while the rest of the team goes in direction A, roaming soldier, after getting a buff from the medic, goes in direction B. Typically, while the other team is occupied with the combo and the rest of the team, the roaming soldier comes up behind them with some well placed rocket jumps and deals some serious pain.

The demoman is all about area denial. This is 99% stickies and well placed pipes; no demoknights here. The demo is also usually a nice backup uber target in case the soldiers are both dead.

The scouts/ utilities are just that: utility players that fill in what's needed. scouts are typically the first choice, because they are ideal for taking out the enemy's medic. Killing the enemy medic and keeping yours alive is generally key to winning in competitive tf2, and it's the scout's job to duck the other team's soldiers and take the medic down. Scouts are also useful for supporting the demoman, who is virtually useless against a competent scout at close range.

Now, it's evident that, judging by the first few posts, there's going to be some overlap in terms of who wants what position; I'll be sending out PMs to everyone who has responded asking them a few questions, and as we start to fill in, I'll update the main post to see positions that are filled.

So, expect some PM's people! your interest is appreciated! :D

Pocket soldier?

In competitive play there is typically a pocket and a roaming soldier. Pocket stays next to the medic and defends him, while the roaming moves around and flanks. Its a lot more complicated than that, but there is a basic description.

EDIT: Dread already got it :P take a look at this if you want, its supposed to be sort of an intro to competitive play and play style http://sites.google.com/site/keviguides/home/introduction.

I wrote it a while ago, I might continue it now that the eGO league is starting up if people want me to.

Very nice guide, answered all my questions about competitive play, thanks Kevi :)

I'm a pretty good soldier. I can generally hold my own in combat, and am good with all of the standard weapons, as well as with the equilizer. I also have no problem with rocket jumping and quick flanking maneuvers.

Id definitely like to learn. I havent put much playtime into demoman, but I am somewhat decent with him. I usually play solider or medic mostly.

I'm good with Sniper, Soldier, and due to my awesome snipe skills, I'm a pretty good scout as well.

As for demoman, I'm fairly garbage :P. But I'd like to learn given the chance.

for the pocket vs roam thing.
many teams run both together but if you are the "roam" when some one is needed to give chase thats you but most the time you wont be away from your medic actauly.
but then are teams that run roam soly with scouts so thats up to your team i guess

I'll sign up for Demomemoman. I got some skillz with the class and want to improve but never had the chance. I can do pretty decent airshots.

I'll play demoman for you. I have some experience in competitive, so I'll be ok.

Updates:

Cjaz and watersnake, I hate to say this, because I know you're both good demos, but someone got their foot in the door first. If you'd like to be one of the reservists, that's cool, but I would recommend trying to find other teams first. the reserves are just that; they won't see as much gameplay. sorry guys! :(

So, that means we're only looking for a scout slot, and I do have some people I'm talking to about it. if you'd like to put your hat in the ring for that, do it while you still can! seats are going fast! :D

Shado is demo?

He can definitely speak for me as a player if you need references :P
(I feel like I'm applying to college all over again)

Ask people who play Turbine or Mesa, I have a fairly nice scout.
