CS:S Update Problem

Okay.

So I just got back from a trip to discover that the new CS:S Update has finally been released. Great.

Problem: I lag...(Alot now). Never before have I lagged so much. Before I never experienced any problems with the game. FPS and Ping were above-par when playing. Now it is horrid. I checked the net_graph and the ping seems to be the problem.

Do I have to change rates like before because they may have possibly reset, or is there no hope? Also, it would be great if someone else may add if they are experiencing the same issue.

Thanks, Medic

Well, my ping appears to be fine actually but I get this horrible lag where everything freezes, and then I get that sound that you get when you purchase a weapon and on the side it says I got all the weapons I got back again. I get that with some nasty rubber banding. Idk if it's the update or my internet cus there was a thunder storm and it might of messed up my router. There are no other signs of bad internet though.

I can't even play the game on a local server with nothing but bots....I try to move, the game freezes and ill lag for a good 20 seconds before I can continue moving, then it will repeat

I think I'm getting the same thing. Where you run forward, then you magically transport back a few paces, then you're moving forward again (I'm pressing w) and then transport back etc

any help? I'll have to quit if I can't get it worked out, as playing with 18 fps AND that magical movement is too much for me

FOUND A FIX?
so I found a youtube vid that said how to fix lag in source blah blah
anyway, you right click game, set launch options and add
-dxlevel 80 +mat_antialias 0

It actually makes my game run very smoothly, though I now have to change the resolution every time I start the game? Small price to pay

Well there was an update yesterday, if you didn't get to download it try updating it. Right click it on steam and update.

Lol yeah that's called rubber-banding. It's like you think you're going somewhere, but then you get sent back. I get that ALL the time in source now:facewall:

yeah, turns out my fix doesn't really work either lol. Just makes it so you rubberband right when you think you won't :D

we're a sorry bunch of dudes aren't we? LOL

First of all, Medic: I will not allow you to quit CS:S.

With that being said, I want you to go to your Steam > Library > Right Click CS:S > Hit Properties > Set Launch Options > Then type in: -dxlevel 81

- - - - - - -

I had the very same problem when I first installed the new update, this seemed to do the trick for me. It should fix your online gameplay, however, single player is still incredibly laggy- (I think it's a glitch in the patch?) - Hence nobody that I've asked can play a non-laggy single player game with bots in it.

- - - - - - -

Frustrating, yes; but at least you can play online with me again ;]

If this doesn't work, PM me on steam, or send me a msg on the forums, I could try to help some more..

Tried...
at least for mine, it just lessens the problem

Unfortunately, the -dxlevel 81 did not fix the rubberbanding issue.

Guess I'll just wait for VALVe to patch it or something...

Thanks, Morgan

Same problem with me.

I sent a bug report from in game and after that it worked fine for 10 minutes, then it started up again. The first day of the update it was perfect, but now it's completely unplayable.

(coincidentally I thought it was because of the thunder storms too Rusty)

Yeah, the fix didn't work, thanks anyway though. I guess the only thing we can do now is wait :/

I was having the same thing, and I used to have this problem in 1.6 BUT when I was playing, my internet tab was trying to find servers so it was lagging me hardcore like 4x ping than normal. I just stopped the browsing and it returned to normal.

1.6 has been deemed unplayable by my computer.... the models are all left handed (which i can't switch), incredible lag and I can't join a server (sometimes). Idk why, but I blame the update from a couple weeks or months ago, not sure when.

cl_righthand 1
cl_lefthand 0

see if one of those commands work.

As for the lag, the new "dynamic" shadows that have been implemented into the game seem to be causing problems for people. I saw a few complaints about it on the Steam forums when I was browsing. Also, 100 tick servers don't exist anymore. It's all 66 tick now.

cl_cmdrate 67
cl_updaterate 67
rate 25000

try those rates and lower your shadows if they're on high. Also, make sure you don't have any downloads going in the background that are forced p2p and upload the files back around the web to other people, torrents are usually like this.

Download Game Booster too. It will disable unrequired services, even ones that are for the internet that just cause lag.
