For my brother:

Budget: ~1k
Connecticut 06801
Purpose: Gaming, Music (Playing bass, mixing)
No Overclocking
Just the OS and a cheap mouse/keyboard.
Should last another 3-4 years.
Just needing a reliable computer than can do what I said.

He wants a laptop and I need to talk him out of it somehow.

Okay. I'll do that soon.

Around 2000$ Canadian

Because my current computer is "crappy".
I don't want to overclock.

Website of choice is www.memoryexpress.com
(Preferably a GPU that is a XFX ATI card)

The only ATI cards I recommend are 5770, everything above that is nvidia's turf IMO, which is based on several reviews.
So I will probably get you 2 470's, maybe 3, if 2, then an i5 760, if 3 then a n i7 930. Hm.
Any case preference?

Ugh that site sucks. They have a very limited selection. Can I use newegg.ca or is it a must that I use that site?

Don't think I haven't forgotten about your requests. I will do TremendiousLion's first, then yours, Aerostat.

You never clarified, though. Can I use newegg?

Omg I love that tool. Awesome Screenshot. If you have Chrome, get it. If you don't have Chrome, get Chrome, get Awesome Screenshot. Amazing. Instead of taking a picture of your screen, it takes a picture of the webpage. And it has a built in editor, if you didn't notice. :P

So this doesn't max out your budget, but it is a damn good build. You can add whatever you want to that, but that is like the best you can get for that price.

I refuse to pick out keyboards and mice. Why? It's a personal preference. There is no performance going with one or the other, like hardware. I left a good chunk of the budget for keyboard/mouse.

1a. $500-600
b. 01950 (6.25% tax)
2. Gaming (CS:S with fraps recording)
3. No
4. Nothing but the tower/contents within
5. Until it breaks
6. It doesn't overheat/black/minimal maintenance

Okay, actually, yours is after you answer this question:
Which is more important: Gaming or Video Editing?

If you buy before the 23rd, you get $25 off of everything. Pretty beast build for $550 imo.

1a. $400-700
b. 01453
2. Video Games, Photoshop, Sony Vegas, Folding@home (BC2 maxed or close too, preferably.)
3. If I learn how I will be.
4. Just the tower, and a copy of win7
5. 2 years
6. medium, a couple fans, preferably black, throw on some LED's.

I could do this myself, and I have plenty of times, I just would like to see what you throw together and either mix/match or pick mine>yours or yours>mine.

Thanks for your time phobus, and it can be 700 before shipping also, and try to get as close to 700 as you can, you can go over it about 100 bucks also. make it performance crazy.
