Need help!!! PLEASE

hey guys i just bought my first headset and am having major troubles.
I have windows vista and when i plugged in the headset it did not show up under the listed audio devices. I some how disabled my scanner when plugging in my speakers a while back, it came with a pop up saying would you like to be notified when new audio devices are installed and i was foolish and clicked no so now it wont scan for new audio devices. So i guess the big question is that, How do i re enable that scanner so it detects my new headset, by the way im on realtek.

I would go one step farther and say go win 7..........I hated vista so much. Especially 64 bit vista...........i had to go back to 32 bit vista. 64 bit win 7 works well though, no problems.

Have you looked for it in your device manager? Locating it depeds on whether its USB or 3.5" jack. you may be able to fix it there.

Well is it a USB port or a normal like headphone jack?

If it is a USB it should appear usually unless they are like Razer headsets you might need drivers I am not to sure.
If it is like a Headphone jack you will have to go into your Sound/Audio settings and change/enable microphone and turn it up with the Volume slider.

If its a 3.5 jack it wont appear in the device manager, as its analog instead of digital. If you right-click your My Computer and go to Properties, then click Device Manager on the left side, and then select any item and click Scan For Hardware Changes, it should pick up anything new.

its still not showing up and im a newbie to headsets but it came with a pink and green plug and they r both plugged in its not showing up though.
