Yeah im going nuts over here. Did some posts on the EVGA FTW thread... Well im getting me a 460 as soon as im 100 % sure of the one to get. Must be a 1gb model, HIGH factory overclock, and not ugly. I dont care about the price.

Someone turned me on to the HAWK, i love its looks, cooling, clocks, everything about it. Then i ran into a few users who say they burned out cards before even reaching 900mhz core. Thats all i care for is 900, no more ... Unless i get one of my urges.

The ASUS looks nice, the Gigabyte 1GI has the most reviews of them all , im just lost now and making it harder than it is. Alot of people complain of the VRMS not being cooled, we can always throw some sinks on there... Anybody know of which cards already have these just for the sake of argument ?
 
I have the HAWK, it owns, on stock I get 350 FPS middle of 2Fort (High Tethering and Video area) and, I could easily push it to 950 (Lowest MAX oc ive seen on a hawk is 1000+) Its really a nice card, and when OCd to 950 its within I think 3000 3Dmarks of a Stock 480, ITS REALLY AMAZING.

EVGA has a good name, but that FTW card is Non-Referance, meaning I dont think you will be able to OC it more than about 25 MHZ IF THAT.

Plus, EVGAs FTW card has ATTROCIOUS cooling.

The Hawk will clock the highest.

If you want to garranty 1GHz core, you should look into water cooling.

The HAWK has 3 voltage adjustment zones, 1 for core, memory, and something else which i cant remember.

TwinFrozrII cooler is superior to any other cooler (excluding water blocks)

I say go for the HAWK, never look back
 
Get the eVGA 460 GTX FTW edition. Just bought two of these for a company computer for 3d modelling and simulation. It's basically a gaming rig used to doing modelling and simulation. Factory overclocked to 850mhz core which is mmMMmmMmMmMmmmmMm...

Well, it all depends on what you want to do though. I won't be OCing this thing and got some crazy cooling for it too.

Why not get the Hawk and OC to 850 yourself?
 
NC did 900 with a + 70 volt from what i recall. I expect most 460's to reach 850, some at 9 with the right cooling. Still not guaranteed but look at all these reviews, each review site gets 10 cards til they can post results from the best they received or "binned" ?

Yeah, but a +70v shouldn't kill the card. If it was a binned card, then it would have no problem doing so. But since the HAWK's aren't binned, they're overpriced for no reason.
 
He obviously had a dud card. And they aren't over priced. You find me a TwinFrozrII (you can substitute AC TTPro) cooler, GTX 460 WITH 3 voltage control zones for less than the HAWK.

If 1GHz core was possible on lower binned cards, then they would advertise it on said cards, but 1GHz isn't possible on MOST 460's. Since MSI uses higher binned chips for its HAWK, they can advertise 1GHz. The cooler alone isn't godly enough to get 1GHz out of a standard 460.

Yea we should be able to get much more than +70.

I'm looking everywhere i can to see who else has had trouble with this card. I'll give it a try as long i dont find much, but if it just feels like these problems were flukes, im game. Otherwise i'll and just do something really nuts for taking so much time on this.
 
70v how the hell can you do that?

I cant get over 1.5v ish on most video cards....
 
Personally, I don't like MSI and their warranty isn't as good as EVGA. I just biased, lol. And with two of them at 850 MHz, it doesn't really matter if I OC or not. I can run any 3d modelling or simulation programs and/or games well. If I really really need, I can just OC a bit. Haha.
 
+70mv reflex. I was actually thinking of getting some cyclones as i hear so much good things about them and possibly add a cooler at some point when i get bored. Seem to be good cards... And cool well til then.

Hey Gbear , i was biased on it as well but there are so many too choose from now... I wanna do something different.

What? MSI's warranty is based of serial number, so you can sell the card to anyone without worrying about finding the receipt. Much easier/more convenient than having to dig thru years of paperwork to find the 1 receipt with the eVGA card on it.

+70mv would make more sense, that is kinda alot for a GPU. That would bring it from 1.3v-2v which would have the possiblity of breaking it.

Knowing NC he probably had it under LN2 or DICE or something

Has great cooling according to the reviews, and is great for folding (no clue what that even means, but apparently it helps with performance). Could probably OC to 1024MHz easily if your case has a fan dedicated to the expansion cards area to keep it at a reasonable temperature. Also a steal at $140 :)

GTS 450 is worse than a 5770 (at stock, not sure how it stacks up at 925 core).

I've never even seen a ATi card hit anything higher than 800MHz yet. If there is such a card from ATi give meh a link. I must see deez device >:|

Anyways, it's still a pretty sweet deal. $140 for a card that should be worth $200 and it has a sweet stock clock speed on it unless the page isn't giving us more info. like whether it's OC'd already or not.
