Old cpu fried, looking for new

As the title suggest, my old cpu fried, a simplistic +4400. I loved it so much and it did well for me. Whatever, I don't want to live in the past too long. Anyway, I've been looking at cpu's and my ridiculously low budget (50 bucks, i know its sad), and I realized I'm going to have to cut a corner somewhere. Well, I've been looking at this Phenom x3 8550 clocked at 2.2ghz, and I've been wondering if its any good or not. Before you say " Phenom 1's are bad" I know, i've heard it before, but currently I can't afford anything better at the moment and I don't know when I'll be able to. I just need something that will work and still provide a bit of that extra power that I'm looking for in cpu's with cores over 2. If the cpu is just as bad as they say Phenom 1's are, can any of you guys suggest something else in my very limited price range?

Tough one with only $50. 2.2 GHZ is fine for most computers, its not neccessarly fast but its not to slow either. My PC was $400 brand new with 4 Quads but I really have no idea what you can get with $50. Good Luck, on the search for a new beast!

You should just cheap out and buy the cheapest possible 939 processor, then save up for a good computer.

its actually an am2/am2+ socket, so i can't get anything 939 related. Sorry about the confusion, i forgot the +4400 came in both 939 and am2

Get the processor reflex linked. I had that, and I had a Phenom I, and it is so much faster than it. It made me sad. :(

You should still save up for a new build entirely.

Open box motherboard = no no
That CPU gets outperformed by a Rana, which is $75 for the cheapest.

Openbox motherboard = go!

If it is defective newegg will send you a new one anyways

EDIT: why you not be on steam

How about this?

Same price range, few dollars cheaper than the above listed Athlon II, HAS an L3 cache and is a black edition processor. Also, same # of GHz.

Some cons though... greater electric draw (not by much), so in turn, likely more heat than that Athlon II 240, and like 400MHz less in HT.

Here is a link comparing the only 3 AMD processors NewEgg has that are worthy (non- Sempron) and the right price.

Just don't worry about upgrading so much right now, you need a new platform to start with. You have to get your PC running more than anything, so if you can upgrade it a touch from where it was WHILE fixing it, that's a plus, but I would consider spending less than that if you can since you just need this thing to work for now. Don't commit too much more money to that PC or it'll nickel and dime you before you get to building another.

EDIT: I'm with reflex. I've kicked myself for not buying new in the past, but I've kicked myself harder for not buying used. Besides, with an open box purchase (which is > refurb IMO), you could get lucky and someone just bought someone an AMD mobo for someone elses birthday\xmas but the recipient needed\wanted an Intel one, or someone similar, you never know.

The AthlonII still has a much newer architecture, and will still be faster. They could give that CPU 10GB of l3, and it would still be slower

I DON'T HAVE MY COMPUTER. DeRP.

You were posting alot so i though that maybe you had it set up.

Did you sell your old pc?

I'm on my dad's laptop = no downloads
Yes, I sold my old computer. I've ordered my new parts, and they will be here Wednesday.

I'm going to take the cpu's in consideration, although I don't need a new mobo, which survived intact. Thanks for the suggestion, though :). I'm looking more towards the 240 and 210e over the 7850, which has a l3, but is overall slower than the others.
