hello all of you tf2'rs

ellen here seeing if anyone out there uses or has used binds.

if so. why do u use them?

what are the pros and cons.

some consider binds as cheats. do you? if so why?

I believe there has been a discussion of this nature in the past, but I'd be happy to discuss.

If you mean scripts and such, I don't consider them cheats, as long as they do not pose an exploit to the game (for example, landsharking). Valve could remove them if they wanted to. With that in mind, I myself do not use them. I do just fine with vanilla configs and I see no reason to try to add any sort of experience like that to TF2. That is my opinion, and I have no bad thoughts or hate against those who think otherwise.

As far as key binds, like "Apply to Edge today to experience our awesome gaming environment," I think those have their place. I don't feel like binds should be used in a spammy way (like every 2.5 minutes, spamming that we are recruiting). Before a match starts and near the end is plenty in my book.

There were my 2 cents! Use them wisely, and I offer no warranties on them.

I have a key bound to the "I am charged" voice command, I find it can be useful for making the enemy think you have an ubercharge ready, and trick them into falling back.

edit: protip for those of you up and coming medics :P

I have the pyro "Panic" (spin, flame and battlecry) bind because it's hilarious to me.
I also bind the engineers build/destroy to 1-8, makes it easier for me to use the mini sentry.

And I've some voice commands bound :)

That's a good idea. I have a lot of voice commands bound to the keypad but not that one. I'll have to remember what the command for them was.

I like the idea for speeding up the process but I need those keys to change weapons.

I never use complex binds, just simple ones to increase my acurracy in-game. I just don't need any complex ones to get the job done well.
I can understand why new players might want to use a macro/bind to do something like rocket-jumping or such, but all it does is make them predictable and incapable of improving.

My macros: (G15 keyboard G key macros)
Quick disguise as spy
Quick disguise as pyro
Quick disguise as soldier
Quick disguise as friendly soldier

My fun game binds:
bind f9 "say I can't stand the monotony! There is only one escape!!!;explode"
bind f10 "say Killbind FTW!!!;explode"

And then I have a few admin binds to speed up some routine stuff!

I dont consider scripts or binds cheating, when I first started playing TF2 i used rocket jump scripts which allowed you to do rocket jump well. Of course I dont use them anymore since I can rocket jump much much better than before, but I only used to till i got better. I only have macro binds on my razor naga mouse
naga1.jpg
it has a number pad where your thumb is, I have disguise macro binds on them(not scripts), which I press #1 and it goes through the animation and disguises as spy same for the other 8 classes I disguise as, this makes it easier for me and frees up my left hand for other stuff instead of pressing the number keys.

cool, I'm still trying to decide if I want to bind anything to my number pad (I have a naga as well). But to answer the question I don't use any binds (yet).

Binds are stupid, all my voice command spamming, admin stuff, and killing is legit. I only use the default quick change weapon bind (q) which is well, default. That, a trade bind, and an asplode bind is all i need. So the next time you see me spam Good Job or activate charge, I wouldn't mind a little praise for super flexible fingers.

I don't even have the message menus bound anymore.

Now on a different note...

My Mouse2 is set to switching to my melee wep. When let go it goes back to primary.
Left shift is set to my secondary, when let go it goes back to my primary.
A few text binds, k is my kill bind.
Mouse3 is attack2.
A few spy and engy commands on the numpad.

I like binds.

Damn that looks nice. Would you recommend it? I've been using a Microsoft Intellimouse since I first started gaming and I've always loved it.

I would recommend it, its an all around great mouse imo. I use it for starcraft 2 as well and not sure how I used to play with out it. Its got 5600 dpi which is a a lot faster than I had before this one (there are a few other mice out there with higher dpi, but you dont need it.) The number pad on the thumb is awesome and takes a little getting used to, but it comes with some little rubber stickers you can place on the number pad so you can learn the lay out of the numbers. I dont use them any more, Ive had the mouse for a while now and im used to it. The mouse will run you about 70-80 $, which is well worth it. You can look into it and see some vids about it here... http://www.getimba.com/naga-molten/videos.html

:w00t: I should bind my vent button to my naga

Also, pyro's, a bind (would probably have to be a software macro though) to swap to your axtinguisher, hit once and go back to your flamer will be VERY useful.

I have a bind for that!
1 is flamethrower, 3 and one of my mouse buttons is axestinguisher.
Quick burst of flame to catch and light compression blast to disorient (Almost simultaneously), mousebutton to axestinguisher, then axestinguish! Afterwards hit 1 to go back to flamethrower!

I can do it all in a partial second, which is why I mow through people with it :P
(and the best part is, all me, no macros!)
