On March 1st, a new expansion comes out.

That expansion will feature a campaign each of the 6 races, the addition of upgrading units as well as heroes in the campaign (that's what it looks like), and maybe some inclusion of base building.

Campaign for all six races?
Yes, it looks like Retribution is, as is custom, introducing a new race. Imperial Guard is confirmed, and it looks like it will have a kind of Inquisitorial theme. For example, one of the Imperial Guard's heroes will be an Inquisitor.

And what do I mean by "That's what it looks like" in regards to upgrading units?
There hasn't been much info released, so I'm just going off of what wikipedia and Steam are saying. Steam says
STEAM said:
Upgrade your heroes and unlock new buildable units as you progress through the single player campaign.
So it looks like Campaign will introduce some kind of Campaign wide tier of tech, that advances as you do.

Inclusion of Base building?
That's what Wikipedia says. I wouldn't entirely trust it, seeing as how it's Wikipedia on an unreleased, unanticipated game, but here's what it says on that subject.
Wikipedia said:
It will also reintroduce base building to some degree.

The game is more of a whole new game, rather than just an expansion, though. The updates included in Retribution will not be patched into the previous Dawn of War IIs.
This DoWII also drops GfWL in favor of Steam.
If you buy this and no other Dawn of War IIs, you will still be able to play as all six races in multiplayer.

As for preorder bonuses...
If you preorder the game from THQ.com or Steam, you get to pick a special pack of wargear for one race. The Tyranid pack is exclusive to THQ, and the Ork pack is exclusive to Steam. The IG, SM, Chaos, and Eldar packs are available in either store.
If you want all of them, get the Collector's Edition at the THQ store.
The War Gear packs also include new abilities, and the Collector's Edition comes with the usual stuff a collector's edition comes with.
So the Collector's Edition, in total, gives you:
  • A cool poster
  • Six art cards, one for each race
  • 24 abilities, four for each race
  • 24 pieces of war gear, four for each race
  • Dawn of War II - Retribution

The game is priced at $29.99 USD and the Collector's Edition at $39.99 USD.

So, I know I'm getting this. I have to finish DoWII and DoWII Chaos Rising, though. But Imperial Guard, and the Inquisition! The two with the most potential awesome in the universe!
And I'm getting Collector's Edition, seeing as how it's still cheaper than a regular game, and probably any new expansion by Blizzard (COUGH). And it comes with this (picture found somewhere else)

Image is too big to fit in boards.

I am so pumped! NO MORE GFWL!

I also went to THQ's website and ordered my copy of the collectors edition because it also contains the Tyranid pack (exclusive to THQ's website) and the Orc pack (exclusive to steam).

I am first and foremost a Space Marine/Imperial Guard fan because I played them when I was still playing table top.

But I am so excited to get a Tyranid campaign even though you only get one hero you get unit upgrades (more than the other races) and other fun stuff.

What I hope to see is more space hulk levels (takes me back to the board game) they were awesome. I also heard there MAY be a space hulk mode where you play with others on steam in timed runs and different objectives.

Does anyone else here still play table top? If I go back I'm making a Tyranid army but I left when they made the shift to plastic models and I don't know how much detail they can have or how well they hold up.

Yeah, I decided I'm getting the CE. It's totally worth it. And I get to replace or set along side my Portal cake poster.

Ah, I just found the proper thread for DoW2: Retribution. Can't wait 'till this comes out! :D (Gonna pre-order the Space Marine version) ^_^

This and Space Marine coming out pretty soon almost one after the other will be awesome. Going from Dawn of War 2, to Starcraft 2, and back to Dawn of War 2 (once this comes out). Can't wait. :D

Same! I know the ork pack is Steam exclusive, but I may order the physical copy for the artwork etc that come with it. Also, the Honour Guard Blade is too nice to pass up!

Can't wait for Retribution, the campaign sounds great, and more Last Stand content is nice.

Getting rid of GFWL is the best move ever. Probably going to shell out the extra ten bucks for collectors just because of that.

Bumping now that the Beta is out. I'm installing the Beta right now and will probably play it later. Anybody who's tried it, how is it? Is it as good as its been said to be so far?

Seems somewhat balanced, at least compared to Chaos Rising's release. Some of the super units are rather overpowered though. (Swarmlord especially) A lot of the IG units seem unnecessarily powerful too. (Manticore, Ogryns, Catachans) But at least they aren't like the Bloodcrushers at Chaos Rising's release.

Alright, my game arrived in the mail today, going to test it out.

I don't think my poster will replace the cake that I currently have hanging on the wall. At least not until I get something to hang up posters. And even then, I'll just set them side by side...

Alright, got a chance to play it. Fairly certain AI got dumbed down, because the first thing I did was play two Skirmishes against normal computers and won both of them. I couldn't win skirmishes against normal computers in the other DoW IIs.
Anyway, IG are pretty fun, SM are still okay. I have yet to do much else, besides make custom IG and SM armies.

Maybe you got better. :P I just got the game recently, and am currently on the last mission of the SM campaign. Played some last stand, and I'm lvl 16-17 now (highest wave I got up to was 18-19)

Add me so we can play some coop campaign/last stand/multiplayer.

Dang Kunai, you were playing for quite awhile while I was away.
For all those that don't know, you can now buy all the race packs together for $5, or each of them separately for $1 each. I finished the Space Marines and am now on Orks, and playing some Last Stand now that I've finally imported my stats.

Just finished the SM campaign, and I'm lvl 17-18 as SM on last stand..Got to wave 19 then died. XD

Let's play again soon!

Hey guys, just a quick question. What exactly do the different versions do? I noticed the title of the Ork DLC from Steam was Ork Wargear...so is that the difference? Also, how would one go about ordering the DLC all together, like Zero mentioned?

When preordering you could choose a specific race wargear that would give you four items (weapon, armor, accessory, commander item) in the campaign usable only by the main hero of that race after you beat the first level to make them super overpowered. For a little while, they allowed you to pick them all up for about $5, or $1 each, however that no longer seems to be the case with the exception of the Ork pack, sorry. :(

Committing an act of necromancy to point out two things. First of all, as of today, all the Wargear packs, and the full set is now once again available on Steam, same price. Also now available is the Dark Angels DLC which from what I can tell, adds another Space Marine campaign, and adds a new color scheme for them, changing them into Dark Angels and giving the Force Commander a winged helmet, and even adding new models for multiplayer.

They should make an exclusive campaign for the Ultramarines. I'd buy it.
