This is why I hate stats in games. People put way too much stock in numbers that no one but themselves actually care about. The only time anyone ever checks another player's stats is to see if someone is cheating or not. Or before a competitive match in which case I would totally want bad stats to give the enemy team a false impression so they feel even worse when they get ROFLstomped.
I'm convinced my K/D is so low because everyone cares so freaking much about their precious stats that no one wants to attack an objective, leaving me to attack it alone. It's part of the reason I stopped playing non-competitive matches.
Here's a revolutionary concept. Let's just play the game and stop thinking people are checking your stats and gonna go "WHAT?!?!?!?! 608 SPM!!!! This guy is the worst player I've ever seen! He couldn't hit a broadside of a barn!" Or whatever goes through one's mind when they have a stat that is far better than the vast majority of BF3 players.
I agree with most of this. For me, I'd be lieing if I said I didn't pay attention to some of my stats. If i want to know if a player is good or not i'll look at his SPM, K/D & what weapons he uses to find out if he's good or if i can beat him or if he's legit or not. Someone can have a high K/D but if their top weapons are all like MG's which normally shows that the player camps a lot.
If the player has a low K/D & high SPM that means he rushes/Revives a lot and dies. I like looking at all those facts before i'll judge someone by their stats. It's quite easy to tell what type of player someone is by their stats.
At a minimum they shouldn't be made public so less people would care so much what these people half a world away think about their leet skills based on abstract numbers.
I have to strongly disagree with that. Stats are the reason people continue playing games. It's like the constant goal that you can set for yourself to keep people playing their games. Compete with friends on their stats, compare them to other people and such. I like stats and i try to keep mine decent, I'm not an elitist and i'll play games with friends that i know i'll lose on and get killed alot. I like trying to improve my stats but i won't sacrifice playing for fun to do so. Taking away stats won't fix people who go overboard on stuff like that. I knew some people who were crazy stat wh*res and would rage if they lost some of their points on their stats.
For example, Right now i'm checking my ranking on the eGO servers. I think i'm ranked 120 something right now. This is just for fun to see if i can get into the top 50 spot or something. It gives me a goal and keeps me playing on their servers more.
