A short list of some things to consider while on our neighborhood CS:S Jail server.

  1. Wardens
Wardens are the foundation of jail. They are the Dungeon Masters of the Iron Fortress. They control the ebb and flow of the game, and the events that occur therein. It is the role of a warden to:
    • Keep the round moving
    • Provide fresh, Rich game content
    • Move the round along
  2. CTs

CT's are responsible for controlling the t's, and enforcing the wardens orders. This means that they should not allow t's to run off, and to prevent rebellion The role of a CT is to:
    • Enforce the warden's orders
    • Be ready to replace the warden
    • Understand and listen to the warden
    • Keep the t's from rebelling
    • Not be too strict (If a t twitches let it slide)
  3. Games

Games are the core of a round of jail. Games should be:
    • Unique and fresh each round(See Cyanide's thread! He has some great ideas: Here)
    • Original (INVENT NEW GAMES!!!)
    • Fun (The purpose of a game is not to kill the t's but to challenged the ts in some way)
  4. Ts

T's are the purpose of every round of jail. They are the lab rats for the ct's cruel tricks, and they want revenge. The t's role is to:
    • Rebel (Find unique ways to take out the cts, either be stealthy or run and gun)
    • Compete (Don't want to rebel? Try and get LR by winning the mini games!)
    • Teamwork (T's need to communicate, and to help each other out.)
  5. Fresh maps

Playing the same four maps on repeat is boring. It's a lot of fun to load up those old dusty maps once in a while. It brings variety and and fresh players in the server. It also allows for more freedom of thought, without doing the same routine every round. If you see a map you've never played in the RTV / Next map vote, pick it! We have a large collection of maps for a reason! Use them!

These things should definitely be taken into consideration while on the Jail server but words alone cannot change players.

Nice overview anyway.

What I've been preaching in jail for months, too bad any progress I make in 1 map is undone when the CTs switch and move back into their old ways when I'm a T. Without constant prodding, they aren't going to change.

Very well put. I'd like to see some of the older maps played more. problem is that everybody 1 spams so the chances of the older maps getting selected is lower. It seems like it's always leoben, alcatraz and 2 or 3 others. Most of the maps in rotation never get voted on and it's something I'd like to see changed.

I agree! Would be nice to see some older maps get played more.

Well said face - I particularly like your points about not killing the t's for twitching, playing different maps, and enforcing the warden's orders.

It's been said several times before, but repetition isn't bad - killing the t's right out of cells (facing the wrong direction, jumping, etc.) is, frankly, not fun for anybody. And it leads to a lot of rage quitting.

Playing a variety of maps keeps players interested for longer, plain and simple.

And, enforcing the warden's orders - there've been countless times where the warden is killed by a lone terrorist that just rushes him from 2-3 meters away, and nobody does anything about it, because nobody's watching! The guards need to stay vigilant, since if rebelling never posed a challenge, there would be no incentive to follow orders.

Great post face!

The only way that you can change jail is to change the players. If you have the same player base then jail will never be able to be fun.

I think a big reason why I don't play jail is because I had a poor initial experience. When i went in there as an =(e)= I found my self getting killed for as you say "twitching" just because I wan't to look around while I was frozen. Many players who try jail out for the first time get a sour taste in their mouth for the game due to events like this. I will try to give jail another chance now that I fully understand the rules and protocol of the server. But I do believe that we need to learn and practice patience when giving and receiving orders to avoid T's getting the notion that they have been "free killed".
