Nik never plays outside of competitive matches anymore /sadness

but yes, you are right. although, I have seen some snipers since Nik left that rival him.

Jarate/Bushwanker combo is better than SMG for kritz, but even without the pee jar, the Bushwanker still has a quite good frequency for kritz.

NO. DON'T USE THE BUSHWAKA WITHOUT JARATE. Last time I checked kurki and bushwaka had the same crit chance. You're just giving yourself 20% more vulnerability to fire.

Besides, you can't just say the Bushwacka is better based on crit chance (which is no different). In a competitive setting, there are no such thing as random critical hits.

So, you see a heavy medic pair, and they're causing trouble for your team. You wanna take them down, but there's this REALLY bad sniper just standing still over there. There's also a demo walking in a straight line from over there! And it turns out, that pesky spy you thought you just killed has come back! What do you do? Prioritise.

First, go for the spy. Immediate threats to you and possibly your team come first. Kill him, then go on.

Second, go for the medic. Read that again. GO FOR THE MEDIC. He is what's keeping the heavy alive, kill him.

Third, either jarate the heavy if he is in throwing range, or shoot the demo. If the heavy is in range, jarate him then let him die at the hands of your teammates. If you face him alone, you will most likely die. The demo should be an easy target.

Fourth, you finally get to shoot the sniper. Ah, the joy."

If the sniper is anyone but $nake, follow Honor's advice. If the sniper is $nake, run, because he's already targeted you.

Re: heavies and medics.

In general, you want to target medics whenever possible. A dead medic is a medic who is at least 80% away from an uber. The problem is that good medics are smart enough to bounce around and as a result make for miss-able targets.

I'm not so sure that it's as simple as gunning for the medic first and going for the heavy second. Yes, you might have a better chance of taking down both that way if the heavy doesn't scatter, but I think the odds of putting down the heavy on a first shot are significantly higher than the medic.

YMMV if you're $nake. Who, btw, is the only sniper I see on the server who consistently is productive even when a sniper might be the worst choice for a particular situation.

Which gets me to my next point: being a good sniper is about knowing when not to be a sniper. Are there four other snipers on the team? Then it's a bad time to be a sniper. Is the team pinned by large grouping of the other team such that serious damage is going to need to be done to get out? Then it's a bad time to be a sniper. Are spies running rampant? Then it's a bad time to be a sniper.

Every class has its place in the game and times at which it shines, but it feels like snipers, even more than spies (excluding the best, of course, who tend to wreak havoc no matter the situation--but exceptions don't invalidate general rules), love to stick with their class even when they're killing their own team by refusing to change.

For the record, I like to roll with the stock sniper rifle, jarate, and the bushwacka. Jarate can really be great against good teams that tend to attack as a group rather than in single file succession. Sometimes I wish I had the smg but those tend to be for selfish, I don't like dying reasons.
