Ultimate Dueling: Full class concept

Been toying with this idea the past few days after I had a successful round of dueling. Dueling right now is very limited in its scope.

"Kill the other guy more times than he can kill you before the round ends."

A fairly straight forward concept but add that in to a pub you have to gamble on the skill level of your teammates and your opponents teammates into the duel. Trying to decide between focusing on the duel or being a team player is a hard choice that more than once turned a what would have been a challenging duel into a cake walk for me due to the skill difference in teams.

To me just limiting a duel to cover how many times I killed someone is limiting what I want to get from a duel. Not a single score but to truly see how my skills in a class stack up against theirs. Taking this desire and the previous mentioned aspect of a team I have thought up this solution.

A duel with multiple differently tracked stats that would cover different aspects of the classes actions in both the dual and game. To help also make the teams balanced in skill I also concluded that using bot AI's over players in a 9 vs 9 CP match would give the best results.

Why?

9 v 9
A full team against another. It requires strategy, makes the rounds less chaotic and more organized and above all helps show ones true skills in a given class.

Bot AI's
If you have ever played offline or been on a server with nothing but low level bot AI's I'm sure you can recall how dumb they were and just went about the basic strategy of run to the goal and shot anything that's a different color. In a 9 v 9 duel match this is perfect as if both sides bots in general are equal and always fight each other to a stalemate and change to the class roster will tip the scales of the match for or against that team depending on that skill with the class they chose.

Example

Two people want to see once and for all who is the better medic. Medic as a support class its hard to have a proper duel as they end up being determined by how well your team/pocket players with you. If they both dues on teams of 9 v 9 consisting of bot AI's their skills as a medic will not only determine the tide of the battle but show who is the better medic through different static's. Healing done , survivability over all, total kill assist average, personal kills, duel kills, ubers deployed, damage done, death , all this data can be factored and points assigned and granted from each category. At the end of say 3 to 5 rounds the average of all this data can be calculated to show each medic's skill in these areas and then the victor could be truly decided based on who has the highest score.

I am still working on this but what do you all this of what I have so far? Currently is like a combination of the best of GameMe, dueling and TF2 stats in its own kind of matchup from how I see it.

So, the idea is to see how good you are at a class versus another person, rather than just how many times you kill the other person?

I agree that its Team Fortress 2 and when you're in a duel in a CP/CTF/PL environment you tend to just go for that person. Plus assists count, which is why I think Dueling Minis never took off like they were expected to. I agree more data points should be included as well - such as for snipers killing other units, assisting, jarating, meleeing etc.

Where would all the bots fit?

Would the two duelers be the only humans on the server?

That is sort of the deal, but you want to work with your team a lot as well so you can push...

So this is basically highlander 【・_・?】

I have never played highlander but in terms of 9 v 9 yes and CP maps yes.
As for the bots they are there to give the element of a team but not so much the coordination of one. Truthfully the bots effort should be to just establishing the battlefield line and it should be the efforts and skill of the player to push their team further towards the goal.

Another example say you are a spy and want to show your superior skills against another spy. In a normal duel in a pub its very hard to find your opposing foe and when you do its usually due to the actions of your team killing him.

As bots are not as skilled as regular players they will be little more then fodder for the spy's to cut through leaving the spys to not only conduct their plays of chain stabbing but of discovering their foe by keeping track of the bots on their own team.

Which allows the stage to be set for a Spy showdown thats more reasonable then the needle in the haystack game of cat and mouse brought on my the natural features of the class but not to the point they still cant be used and judged.

Also to clarify there would only be two players one on each team. They could fight as the same class or even different classes in this set up if they choose. I see nothing wrong with having some spectators as well so long as they don't help give tips to the duelers but provide more commentary as I would enjoy seeing broadcasts of such duels.

Honestly, a dueling competition by using the dueling mini-games is not within my interests. Seems to leave too many other variables, effectively making a duel not a duel.

You could very simply have an MGE competition and you'd get an extremely fair fight.

Well that's what I'm saying, I don't really feel you can combine the two ideas per se. Spy v spy is the classic example, I think. Spies aren't really meant to be counterspy, to even duel another spy is in a sense counterproductive to the team effort. And that contrasts with classes where the whole point of the class is to kill everyone else, such as heavy or to some degree soldier.

The reason I think the idea that Polish has is so cool is that it looks for something beyond a specific skill test and at the context at which those skills are used (which may or may not be killing people). But then, it just becomes quite difficult to actually quantify what it is you're actually looking at.

That said, skill test competitions could actually also be fun to see

Glad to see you get the idea of this system hEY. It was designed with mostly allowing the more supportive classes to be able to compete with their additional services other than just killing.

The stats themselves are already tracked, you just have to press Tab to see them but beyond personal performance they are never really paid attention to besides kill count or headshot/backstab for Sniper & Spy's.

The 9 v 9 arena is to give a more controlled environment and the bot AI's further add to that be making both teams skill level the same save for the players dueling. Making their existence and actions decide the rounds victor which will be an included stat tracked in the overall points given per category.
