I think TS3 is a lot better then vent. Every clan or guild ive been in has chosen it over vent...Sound is so much better imo.

To fix your issue go to settings tab - options - notifications - go under other tab - uncheck the receive poke box then apply

I've used vent for over 10 years and am happy with the quality. However since I installed a new sound card I'm having extreme ping spikes with it only when I am in DoD. I'm pretty sure its a setting or something. I have used TS a few times in the past and although I think Vent quality was better, it may be I just didn't use it long and didn't set things up like they needed to be. The one thing that matters to me is the ability to adjust individual people. In Ventrilo you can, when I used TS you could not or if you could I didn't see it. I'll gladly give TS a try if only to get rid of my ping spikes. If anyone knows how to adjust mic's individually, please let me know. Thanks!

For the sound, right click someone and select Change Volume.

Couldnt be happier with TS3, Ventrilo is a good software but does not provide as good sound quality and Its somewhat out of date. TS is constantly getting better and improving, I hope we stay with it. And perhaps with the Ventrilo Achievements in the forums, just change it from Ventrilo to TS3 if we switch?

Not sure if these issues have/can be addressed:

1. The main lobby that you connect to when you first join should probably be muted.

When I joined I ran into a guy who liked to breathe through his mouth, randomly queue his mic while chewing gum or presumably picking chunks of pizza out of his mouth using an old sock.

2. My PTT button will only work when TS3 is minimized.

I use Alt (default button I think) as my PTT key. I'd prefer to use Ctrl but for some reason I can't. I'm running TS3 in administrator mode and I can't figure out how to talk while my TS3 is open. It works fine minimized but as soon as I try to talk with TS3 open, various buttons and text in TS3 are highlighted. Also, I think I drink too much.

P.S. I'll actually read most of the previous posts when I find the time.

Is your PTT bound to a key outside the standard set (e.g. Mouse5/G key)? If so, try binding PTT to something like scroll lock and then have your mouse/keyboard software send a scroll lock keypress whenever you hit it.

Thanks for the advice Dom. I am using the default Alt PTT on my keyboard and mouse (Logitech G15 and G600, respectively). I'm not sure if I understand what you're saying but I have tried rebinding the PTT to different keys on both the keyboard and mouse with no luck. I'm not exactly new to TS as we have used it off and on for Arma and PS2 but this time around I've seen a lot of problems especially with Arma 3 and ACRE.

I never had any problems with the old version of TS3 but this latest version has been a handful. I'll keep messing around with it when I find the time and if I'm at the verge of breaking something into a million pieces I'll find you, Spray, or Gamingrobot to help me out and make me feel like a mouth-breather.

Can I have it show all the users in all the rooms, instead of just the users in my room? I can't find anything in settings (I'm severely non-techy), and if I'm looking for someone, I don't want to have to hop in and out of room after room to try and find them.

Of course if we're really setting up a server with free software... Mumble would be nice.

Many people ask if a server is the next step. Our answer is no. If you’re setting up a server, you should check out Mumble. The Ventrilo protocol includes a call home feature that checks the server’s license every time you connect. These tactics are anathema in open source ideology.

Reasons you should use Mumble:

The server is free and does not have any of the bizarre limitations of Ventrilo servers
It’s open source and is actively developed for all major platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux). iPhone and Android clients are currently in development
It is truly low latency. Compared to Mumble, Ventrilo’s latency is astronomical
The CELT codec is far superior to both speex and GSM
Mumble does not have a forced call-home check.
The Ventrilo network protocol itself is atrocious. It looks like it was written as a bad highschool programming project.
Always encrypted communication.

For gamers:
In-game Overlay - see who is talking.
Positional audio - hear the players from where they are located.

If we're moving to a new client, I BEG the admins to consider Mumble.

Really don't know what to say honestly
I have all three installed (Vent, Mumble, and TS)
haven't used mumble much but I use vent and TS a lot
A few years back I rented a vent server and it was nice I suppose
I, personally, see no major differences between the two but this is coming from a guy that hops in once every week or two to talk and that's it.

The one plus with TS3 that I do like is having the option to type chat into the entire room versus just PMing someone. That is cool I suppose.

You need to subscribe to all of the channels (green eye button on top). This should have been done by default when you first connected, not sure what happened.

I assume that if we do ultimately decide to permanently switch to TS3, the Ventrilo Achievements would be archived and a New Teamspeak one would be made.

One way is to right-click your name in Teamspeak and select Change Nickname to include something similar to a comment as you would in Vent (i.e. Lucas15 - Playing MC).

If you plan on going afk, you can use the Away setting. That also allows you to set the message that others see while you're away (i.e. sleep).
