I had been thinking about that Cloaked. My current (old) rig is slightly overclocked.
the K CPU is only 15 bucks more....
With the 4690K, the K denotes it's Overclockable (multiplier is not locked). So if you're going to OC it, you definitely want to change out from the stock heatsink+fan (which is great in its own right, but for better OC potential, get a new heatsink). The Cooler Master Hyper 212 series and Zalman 9500/9700 series are the best traditional fan/heatsink combos, in my opinion. However, water-cooling is now much easier to install and widely available. The Corsair H50/H80/H90 kits are definitely great options. Cooler Master has several good options as well, but I would personally eye the H80i or H90 from Corsair for water cooling, or the CM 212 Evo for a traditional fan/heatsink combo.
Also, at this stage, it can't hurt to wait for Black Friday/Cyber Monday.
You're gonna go the OC route then?
actually... glad y'all saw that.
I didn't realize that was a micro atx. I've got a full size tower, I can fit a normal atx board
Also I dont like asrock. Not a fan.

Not a bad deal either.

Get an i7, don't bother going with i5 anymore, as games get harder to run, with more processes, i5's become irrelevant. You will be able to more on an i7 then you would on an i5 any day. For the price, it's not that much more expensive and you'll see a massive spike in performance, especially when running multiple devices and displays.
intel 4970k is the way to go, best processor based on price and performance, you will not be disappointed in this processor, I currently do not have it, I wish I did.
ASRock X99M EXTREME4 is one of the best motherboards on the market right now, being a little under 300$ with free shipping on amazon, you're getting a really high end motherboard with a lot of room to work with. This board will be good for the next 5 years of gaming and you'll be able to upgrade any of your other parts without worrying about compatibility issues, performance issues or quality issues. It also allows for the use of multiple graphics cards, and with the processor paired up with this board, you'll have no problem having more then one graphics card.
16 GB of ram, don't go for 32 unless you're planning on upgrading your parts and running 4 titans. Gskill and corsair makes fast ram, that is both reliable and cool-looking. look for faster timings on your ram, you don't want to buy 16 GB of ram and have it be slow. Getting 16 GB of ram will make you ready for the next generation of gaming and you should not have an issue running any game with 16GB of ram as of for the next 5 years.
We're not looking for the best computer for you for this moment, a lot of these other suggestions will be irrelevant in 2 years time, we're trying to make it so you don't have to upgrade and you won't see performance issues if you maintain your computer well for the next 5 years. You'll be able to play a lot of games on max settings and will see a great increase in FPS. These parts will allow you to utilize tools like photoshop, sony vegas and FL studios with little to no lag. Also, the board will give you plenty of graphic card options for you to choose from, and all of this can be ran on a 750W power supply. It can all fit in a full ATX case aswell.
UGH, this is making my head hurt
Ok, let's offically say I want the "option" to be able to slight overclock.
Orginally I had said no...cause like i said above, to ME, over clocking won't get you much. You have to REALLY over clock to see the benefits, Then you have to do special things like water cooling, ect. I'm just not intersted in that.
The cpu is going to be "outdated" in 4 or 5 years.. over clocked or not.
But, the price to slightly over clock is trivial. $15 extra for the cpu?
Maybe a bit extra for a Z board....
My undergrad is in computer science, masters in software engineeering. Six figure income.
I'm not worried about a "bit extra"...but I don't think I need a $300 board.
I learned the hard way (i.e., the expensive way), that anything I build will be out dated in 4 or 5 years, and will need to be rebuilt. So there isn't any point in spending oodles doing it.
But again... if the price is worth it.
The i7-4790K is $100 more.
Is the i7 worth the extra $100?
A lot of the Z77 boards support not just the i5's, but also the i7's.
Would it make more sense to get an i5 now, then in say 2 or 3 years, (when they have the i10's or so out), THEN pick up one of the top i7's..for a fraction of the price.

Why will he have to buy an additional processor?Okay, you're not understanding, he will have to buy an additional processor in that time. Over all costing more money.
Yeah, he will be able to run games on higher than medium. That will be limited by his graphics card in nearly all cases.Because he will not be able to run games on any setting higher then medium. Graphics are advancing fast. 4k displays are getting cheaper. Might aswell go for something that will perform, and last if you have the money.
