Ok, so I already wrote a long piece about driving in HM. I laid out some of the routes I think are unusual and really fast...but I didn't save the damned draft, and that sucks! :] Kinda leaves you deflated.

Anyway, instead of being the Great Revealo and proudly sharing all my "secret" routes in one post and risking the ol' "ho-hum" reaction, I figgered I'd share a couple of things I've noticed and see if you folks have any of your own as well.

The physics of the game is pretty good, so it follows that some real-world driving concepts mostly apply. Some of it's pretty obvious.

When you're taking off from the uncap any turns will slow you down. The longer you stay on a straight line, the faster you go, and the rougher the terrain, the more resistance. If you hit a 10" wall head on, good chance you're gonna flip, and if it's any higher, you'll stop dead.

When I first started thinking about fast routes it came to me that programmers must love their jobs, but some of it must get pretty boring...like initial product testing. I figgered they must have to drive the jeep across the map a hundred or more times to trigger the flags and to check their tweaks. I'd wanna be able to eat a sandwich while I was doing that, yknow? So I started looking for little waymarks or indicators that I *in my imagination* might use as targets, or guides.

I noticed that there really are a few bee-lines from the uncaps to B...especially from the US side.

I also noticed that you can use a tank to make your own route. If you drive the tank in a bee-line through any walls, bushes, and fencing, and if you take a jeep along that same route at any point later in the game, it's about as smooth as the road.

I said pretty much the same stuff in my failed previous attempt, plus I had about 4-5 times as much detailing routes. Hmm...maybe it's *good* I lost it. I have babbling fingers. lol. Strange that it keeps saying "auto-saved", though. If I close the browser, it's gonzo.

So, what've you guys got? Hints, tricks?...I've never actually discussed this kind of thing in a game before. I wonder if it's all written out somewhere.

I do a lot of full throttle driving from US to B, this is where a lot of the rough ground is. When you wee a 10" or so high "berm" coming up, try to hit it anyway but head on(both front wheels hitting it at the same time) and make the contact at least 10 degrees off the line of the berm. The vehicles will take obstacles better if you get off the gas momentarily just before you make contact. Tikkun, do you remember these routes? Sorry a tank got in my way on each run

Two or more passengers in a CAVJ will add a lot of time to any road trip so don't forget to pack pretzels and beer for the passengers to keep them happy.

I'm always full throttle! lol!

I haven't taken the first route exactly, but something close...you could shorten it by jumping that wall just before C. When you ride up the roadbank, you'll fly over it without touching it...then you'll come up past C's jeep.

The second one is awesome! Coincidentally, I've been trying that one in the last few games. I found it by accident once but I keep hitting the outcrop on the right. I figured the tree must've been down when I did it, but now I see where you went. Thanks!!

How the hell do you capture video‽‽ I've actually got a decent-enough computer to handle such things now.

There we go...my first capture. This is one of my favourite routes to B, now. We had it so I went for A. :]

I got on early to get some miles in for a video and ended up in the game for four hours!

When fighting is going on at B I have routes to A from the US and to C from the Rus uncaps, these are the first two clips in this vid. The last one is a drive that is an out of the way route to the backside of B, nothing unusual just pushing the steath aspect.

The most important drive is that very first one when the fight starts. Waiting for even one passenger could get you in trouble with a tank getting out of the uncap. Even when you get someone they may jump out at C from the drive out of the US thinking C is important.

I hate to say hate but I hate when I don't get in first and have to passenger with a driver that putts his way down the road to get to B, or hits every obstacle on the way there, worse yet can't figure that B is important. Unfortunately, I also get motion sick when I don't drive so at least I get to throw up on the driver:blushing:

I totally agree about heading to B straightaway. Now that I know how to capture, I think the best I've done so far is 42 seconds.

Here's one of my favourites from the US uncap to B.

Nice route! I think my jeep needs some major suspension work before it will take some of those berms though.
