Section Activity & Future Prospects?

So I am only but a new member but taking a moment to review some of the forum activity for Overwatch and the reduction of dedicated Overwatch channel I can't help but to question what may be happening to this section.

Though there are a few other supported games in the community I play Overwatch is perhaps number one on my list and has been for some time. I just wanted to ask a few questions

  1. How long has this section been officially supported and is there cause for concern for it to be dropped from most active sections?
  2. Did this section have a lot of activity since game release?
  3. Is the section lacking additional admin or leaders?
  4. What is likely to be expected or what are the anticipations for this section moving forward?

Great questions! I'm looking forward to reading answers from EGO members who enjoy Overwatch.

1. Can't remember.
2. It had decent activity for a good duration.
3. No.
4. Overwatch is a difficult game to support for our particular community setup. There is nothing you can really do as a community in the game so you end up splitting up into small groups and form cliques that isolate you from the rest of the community. This kind of stagnates the "division" and you end up with a member base that can't grow and can only decline. EGO has historically done well in almost any game that has community servers we can host but these games with smaller sized matchmaking and no servers usually end up flopping.

That's just my personal opinion, though.

Hey Admiral,

The reason why there are less channels is because there is no longer any Overwatch leadership and it was decided that EGO would take a step back away from the game. There have been several ongoing problems that were never fixed/ignored that have led to this. If you are interested in bringing back more support to this game the best persons to talk to are FirezFury or USCGHammer. Also if you need to talk to someone I am usually on TS.

I can honestly respect that as games have particularly developed passed dedicated servers that itself has led to a lot of what we have today. It would also serve as a big reminder as to why I suffered in my community trying to support this game as the primary in relation to all that you have said.

I can't help but say that I want to see this section succeed. It is such a fantastic game but as mention above I can see why. There is only so much focus on 5 to 6 man dedicated teams and cliques that clans are practically forced in the ground for any type of support.

Power to you man. I wanted it to do well but there were others that did not see that same light. There has been talk about reviving the game but we needed more support from people like you. That's why we have but wraps on it for now.

Pretty much the exact same thing happened to the Payday division, no servers for us to host meant teams of 2-4 playing online by ourselves. Didn't help that PD didn't have any kind of competitive PVP like Overwatch does. Also doesn't help that OW is between events currently, with Summer Games having ended not long ago and Halloween coming up shortly.

I know I haven't had the ability to play much anything lately as my computer is extremely cramped physically with stuff moved around for my sister...

Can we host events? Maybe that, along with members playing together and talking in TS during, is the way we can be more involved.

Events can be hosted but with lack of member support there will be no/not enough turnout and it will be a waste of resources.

I can unfortunately agree this is the likely turnout. Many clans and groups have difficulty running these much less recruit for it. 80% care more about comp and only playing with the same people. However, doesn't mean we can't try a few events over time.

Isn't there a way to advertise outside of EGO? What if the prize was juicy enough?

Perhaps the most popular locations to recruit/advertise would have to be Reddit. I can say that the official overwatch forums aren't lively with people searching. Prizes are perhaps the other thing that really gets people almost certainly interested. Still likely to be hit or miss with people staying but if it happens moderately frequent it is very much possible some will stick around.

First we'd have to find EGO members willing to put in the time to organize a tourney. Maybe we could sponsor one at a LAN somewhere and require sign ups at our site to participate. Just spit balling.

Well.. We were supposed to have a tournament quite some time ago but it never happened. You should have everything you already need to make the tourney but I don't think there is reason to do it. Sure you can pull recruits in via the tourney but there is no reason for them to stay after the tourney is over.

Really the only way to get this game running again is to find 10 or so ACTIVE eGO members that not only play Overwatch but are WILLING to help get this going again by playing daily. If you don't do this it will never take off. This is what happens for every game that doesn't support large servers.

*There are also several organizations/communities that are already hosting tournaments 24/7. Unless we up the ante a ton there is just no way we can compete with them.

I definitely know for a fact that tourneys usually only hold peoples interest but for a moment and whether they win or lose they don't have any interest obligation.

I know I am only but a new member but I am willing to help revitalize this section. I know my good friend (Silent166), also a new member, is likely to express high interest. However, that is only but a couple of us.

I appreciate the info from actual Overwatch players. I guess it's up to EGO members to decide if they're interested in playing together. It'll have to grow organically.

So after having this post up for a week I am happy to see at the very least there is still hope. From this point going forward I can say I remain a bit confused as to whether this sections is technically "sponsored". My understanding is currently no but there is technically a leadership structure. I'm not entirely sure if all Overwatch Admins have responded as this -> Overwatch Leadership post is all I have to go on.

I am willing to step forward to at least make an attempt to reach out to the Overwatch community in an attempt to at least get people to visit us with the potential for prospective recruits. But since I am not a section admin I want to make sure that I do not tread where I need not.

If given permission to I would most likely post on the Reddit /r/clans and /r/Overwatch sub-reddits. Additionally I am considering from my own pocket to donate a low funded steam card for a giveaway (would also need pointers/restrictions/permission for this) that would be drawn likely 2 to 3 weeks from the postings for players who either play with a few of us Overwatch players who would record who played with us or be required to become an =e= member.

I would like to receive blessings on this but I want to make sure its agreed that this has more potential to benefit the community as opposed to negatively marr our reputation.

P.S. I have a decent idea of what to expect from people who may become interested. The likely outcome is 85% would only be focused on joining a Competitive Team or create one.

The redit posts are a great idea, and we appreciate your efforts, however, I'm not sure you spending your own money will accomplish much at this time. Very generous of you though.

I play Overwatch pretty much daily. If anything is planned for the division I'd be interested in supporting it.
