Hello,
I have heard some people aka. leadership say "Rules that are unwritten, are not rules". Well, we still have admins, members and regulars abiding by those unwritten rules, and also enforcing them.

With this thread, I would just like to get a clarification on all the unwritten rules that you can think of, so we can possibly get it cleared up in either the ruleset or the FAQ.

I'll start...

"Cells must be opened within 5 seconds of calling Hunger Games."

"You may not bloodhound without reward."

"If you freedamage more than 50hp, you have to swap."

Questions that might need answering in rules/FAQ, or just clarifications

-> is AFK Colors allowed on 'advanced' colorplatforms? (Undertale, arcade)

-> General specification on what a CT can deny when in a "custom" LR.

If any of the rules are specified unclearly in the ruleset or FAQ, please let people know by quoting and tagging them. Thanks x

I'm not an Admin or AT so this isn't official but here's what I got from the rules page.

"Cells must be opened within 5 seconds of calling Hunger Games."

'Day: Hunger Games Prisoners have 45 seconds to find weapons and a safe place before...'
Warden's get swapped for not opening cells after 5 seconds because this could be considered delaying the round; the prisoners are denied the right to 45 seconds to get ready for Hunger Games to start. There may also be another reason for this.

"You may not bloodhound without reward."

For a moment I thought this would fall under this rule,

'As a warden, you must NOT ...
- give special treatment to some prisoners unless earned in a game, exchanged for a contraband, or for blood-hounding (all ST?s must be revoked once there are 2 non-rebels without ST).'

But this never says you have to give or receive ST for blood-hounding. I may have skipped over this rule by accident though. Jacko Jacko

"If you freedamage more than 50hp, you have to swap."

'As a guard, you must NOT ...
Freekill and freedamage - this means injuring or killing non-rebellers.'

I think this is a courtesy thing, you may accidentally freedamage someone a bit and the admins will let it go because it's not significate damage but I've been swapped for freedamaging someone for 3 damage which is fair because free damage is free damage and is not decided by the amount dealt.

-> is AFK Colors allowed on 'advanced' colorplatforms? (Undertale, arcade).

This is pretty much defined in the rule,

'Games must give all prisoners a chance to fairly participate and compete.'

Therefore, on maps like Arcade or Undertale where there can be a movement or advanced command, the prisoners aren't given a fair chance to participate and/or compete. I may be wrong on this one though.

-> General specification on what a CT can deny when in a "custom" LR.

This is straight out of the PG FAQ,

'22) What are "Custom Rules" during an LR? What can the CT deny?
A rule that already isn't described by the LR game's rules. Any new rules that that differ from the game's default rules.
These can be denied by the CT, together with unreasonable LR custom locations.'

And the default game rules are in the 'Rules for Last Request' section in the rules

Admin Help would probably be a better place to have this so we can have an official ruling from the ATs

As you mention, the rule doesn't state that you need to receive a reward to bloodhound. We did have this discussion on teamspeak with one or two admin trainers, and we did clear it up - it would just be nice to have it written down.

I see where you're coming from, but then is it just admin discretion? Can we get a verbal clarification on that?

But then you could also argue that AFK colors shouldn't be allowed either?
Or am I mistaken and missing a point here?

I see, thank you for this! I honestly missed it.

Do you know who to tag to move it? Luna Luna

What I'm saying was if you are AFK Frozen on a color, on undertale, and the ladder command shows up, it is literally impossible to pursue that command and there is no possible chance to survive that command as you're AFK Frozen on a color. ya know?

But still I'm not even an admin so I'm nowhere near an official response.

Honestly, I think afk colours shouldn't be a thing entirely, it's a 1/9 chance you'll win, probably the lowest probability of winning in a luck based game. Specialized colours is even worse. I think on Undertale there's 18 different commands, with 4 of them where no one would survive (not completely sure tho).

'Games must give all prisoners a chance to fairly participate and compete.'
I don't completely understand the 'participate' part. But I don't think this rule applies since it's fair between other Ts, and they still have a chance of survival. Maybe 'chance to fairly participate' doesn't allow it since all could die (which is doubtful bc all players dying is allowed on other games). Either way, i think afk colours should be removed even on normal colours.

Nice post sopheyy sopheyy because some unwritten rules that were implied were lost in the merge and I can totally see some admins not understanding some of these.

Just to clarify:

"Cells must be opened within 5 seconds of calling Hunger Games."
This was added to updated Jailbreak rules which we should see implemented very soon.

"You may not bloodhound without reward."
This is an implied rule we've had and I agree it should be written in either rules or FAQ. If I remember correctly it was kept implied cause it fell under griefing your teammates but what if Warden specifically asks for a bloodhound with no reward? In the rules it states "Do not kill or injure your own team-mates unless ordered by the warden." so it does go against the current implied rule.

"If you freedamage more than 50hp, you have to swap."
This can be a tricky one because every case is situational. When i train admins on mass freedamage (Damaging either a lot of players, or damaging a few for a lot without reason) I emphasize on admin discretion. I tell them you should always swap for mass freedamage or increase to a week CT ban if it was intentional or careless. If the CT clearly made a mistake (i.e nade bounced off and hit stack) a swap should be given unless of course this CT has a history of being careless.

I do agree that for the sake of consistency if a CT damages a single player for 50+ they should be swapped unless forgiven by the damaged player. Admin discretion is to be used to increase to CT ban if its intentional or careless. This could be added in the FAQ or detailed better in the CS JB admin training guide.

I think we can all agree that AFK Freeze Colors is a cancer game however its allowed on games where the T has a chance at surviving. Like A Ayto pointed out 'Games must give all prisoners a chance to fairly participate and compete.' so doing AFK Freeze on dynamic colors like in undertale or arcade is not allowed because in the case where its ladder or jumping lazer there is no chance at a T avoiding these while AFK.

Now lets say its a dynamic colors like in jb_august or jb_quake where its either a color or a direction/corner. Playing AFK freeze on these games is allowed because the T's still have a chance at surviving.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are implied rules that we will see added to the updated Rules/FAQ. I encourage any Jailbreak player that knows about any implied rule (a followed rule thats not written in Rules/FAQ) to reply to this thread to make sure we are not missing any.

Just keep in mind a lot of implied rules can be placed under common sense since it may go against any current rules but there are some implied rules, like mentioned in this thread, that can be trickier to use "basic common sense" clause.

Yes but the overall point of this post is about unwritten rules. People get swapped for these things when they are not even in the rules. For example whenever you call warday you have to open cells if they don't auto open and so how are you supposed to know these rules, it would be very nice if they were written instead of getting swapped for these things and possibly making constant contact leadership posts.

Like I mentioned a lot of unwritten rules fall under common sense. Your example should not have to be a written implied rule because how else are the T's going to pursue warday?

Admins should be using discretion when swapping Wardens for server disruption or delay if they refuse to open the cells. Admins should not punish a Warden who didn't know the cell don't auto open as long as that Warden or a CT actively attempts to open the cell doors.

Yes ok but that was just an example, there's other better examples that one I just thought on the spot.

So this is now the 4th or 5th thread on some rule that is being enforced that isn’t even a rule. I really don’t know how I can say this more clearly.

Stop enforcing things that aren’t stated/closely related to a rule that we have. I don’t care if “that’s what we did at pG” or “that’s how it’s always been”. We need to stray away from needing an exact ruling on every single little detail for you to admin correctly and start using our mental aptitude and critical thinking skills when a situation arises. Think “is that breaking one of our rules we have set in place? Or am I just trying to admin something based off of no premise?”

Please, for my sanity’s sake. Stop enforcing rules that don’t exist.

I mean we are lacking something... something common... unsure what that something is but I can sense it...

I agree that most if not all implied rules fall under common sense. People need to ask themselves, does it contradict current rules?

All the points sopheyy mentioned were mainly questions that I answered and don't require a written version except one. The question over "bloodhounding without a reward" is something we should discuss to make sure admins aren't stepping over each other toes.

Almost all the admins I know including myself enforce the "No bloodhound without reward" even though no where in the rules its stated. We need to clarify whether we should continue this implied rule or allow Wardens to ask T's to bloodhound with no reward to prevent admin confusion.

Before on the old server we always let T's bloodhound anytime they wanted if they wanted to and were alive. Like if we are about to get lr we would always ask if they want to bloodhound so we don't search the map for 3 minutes. It just caused less drama and sped up the round.
Kind of off topic from the original post but just my thoughts.

Also what Mayhem said, admin the rules like they are written and if something comes up you all should have common sense (I hope since you got admin) to deal with it.

I think the "don't admin rules that don't exist" part of the post was pretty clarifying

If I was an admin, I'd enforce my own no long LRs rule. 3 mins max. Sometimes I lit watch 7 minute LRs.
