What is -2^2

kuantum kuantum

but that's exactly why it's -4....................................................
sure but if someone were to come up to you and say what's -2^2, would you say "heh, well it depends on your viewpoint of the question!"? no, you would say 4 like anyone.

Actually tbh I would probably answer with -4, and then ask if there are brackets around the -2 if it was a verbal question, if it was written down I would answer as -4 because that is the answer to -2^2

I mean, who is ever going to ask me this question irl if I don't really talk to anyone haha .... :(

The answer is -4, acording to PEMDAS the way it works is not (-2^2) its -(2^2)

bruh yall still talking about this lmao
its good to pull up tho on jailbreak

Same man. I'm currently in chemistry and geometry in school and I want to ask some question i.e sin(38= etc etc but its always either 3 or some basic math

Comes down to simply your use of the English language.

If you ask, "What's negative two squared?" The mathematical equation would be (-2)^2.

If you want to ask what's -2^2, you could say, "What's negative one, times two squared?"

The former question would get 4 because that's what you're asking mathematically. The latter would be -4 because that's how the formula is set up as.

a simple proof by contradiction on why -2^2 is not -4.

Code:
Prove -2^2 = -4

1. If x = -2 then x^2 = -4.
2. x = sqrt(-4) = undefined or 2i on the complex plane.
3. Therefore, -2^2 CANNOT be -4

QED.

pls remember to put ur parentheses in the question before you ask it

Technically you must look at how the question is asked

From what I've heard through the voice chat in-game, the question has been "What is negative two squared" this would be translated as (-2)^2 as the question previously states that the (2) is already considered negative before it is squared. This would promptly have the answer equal 4

(-2)^2 = 4

However, if the question is -2^2 then your answer is -4, as the process of "PEMDAS" requires that the squaring of 2 takes place before the negative is applied to the base number. This would make the equation something like this:

(-1)(2^2) = -4
