Heya! If you don't know me hello I am Wish, I am a manager for a semi-pro Overwatch team (Revival) and I have been in the semi-pro scene for roughly a year now. I play Overwatch casually, competitively, and I love watching the highest tier of play. I guess you could call me a diehard Overwatch fan

I know there has been a lot of talk and joking around about an Overwatch division, but in all honesty, who would be interested in an Overwatch division? What would you like out of an Overwatch division? What should an Overwatch division provide? Please let me know! As Legend always says, if someone comes to leadership with a good enough plan and there is interest, They can look into it. Someone has to make that plan, so I would love to hear what you guys think!

+0.5 Haven't really played Overwatch in awhile and I used to love the game but I wouldn't see a need for it to be a division. Sure I mean you can host events but either then that I wouldn't see how it could work as a proper game group. Id be totally down to play if you could make it work but as of currently I dont see how it could

I agree

I mean I love overwatch it is a very fun game. I am not sure about making it a division GAME GROUP though. The overwatch event which Star and I hosted (which you were there) was really fun, but the thing is it's hard to make a dedicated server out of it. The way the community servers are run on Overwatch is much different and harder to maintain "Leadership". Unless we have someone on 24/7 to be the group leader, the group leader would just get passed around from player to player and anyone can change the game mode, game rules, and title of the server. This being said dedicated servers would not be a thing.

A few ways I can see this work is there being a section on either discord or Teamspeak and we can coordinate (the admins) to pass the "server" around leadership wise or announce when an eGO centric server is up running and being advised to the players. I'm sure we can make it work in some other ways, but it will be really tough.

Also, I'm not sure how'd we want the server to be run in the first place? as there are so many game modes and types that there probably need to be a rotation of games played.

If we wouldn't have community servers then what? an eGO Overwatch team would be sick, but what about the divison? I honestly don't know, would be cool to see peoples ideas on what the division (crap) GAME GROUP could be like.

PROS
+Its a fun game with a great community
+We can recruit newcomers to eGO
+Servers are free :)
+/- There is a wide variety of game modes

CONS
-It's hard to maintain an overwatch community server
-lots of planning and organization is required if we were to run a community server(s)

I typed this at 2AM with little sleep so sorry if it's ridden with grammar errors or whatnot.

My verdict: Overwatch makes great events, don't know exactly what a division would look like or could look like, but interested to see the ideas.

+0.5 just cause its a good game :p

I would love to see an overwatch game group its not gonna be making us money and the only people I see joining it are previous members, I haven't played Overwatch in a while but, there's no community servers or anything of that sort if I remember correctly meaning it wouldn't recruit anyone at least that I can think of. IF there is a way to recruit people and people are willing to run in I don't see an issue with it.

making us money
It's free to create community servers on overwatch.
And yes there are community servers it's just that a player runs the server through blizzards servers (I think) and leadership is transfered once the player leaves

Recruiting would be differen and harder, of course they wouldn't have a tag in game. (unless they want to put it on themselves), but one idea that just came to mind is maybe e tags have special perks such as an ability to vote on what game mode could be hosted. (Just putting out some ideas)

it would be very difficult to develop this into a game group. OW doesn't have dedicated servers like how CS, Rust, TF2, GTA, or Gmod do. Nor can you develop a clan like WoWS and D2. It would be extremely hard to create a player base of new members and not just current members wanting to play. The biggest thing about a new game group is that they have to be able to recruit and bring in new members to help the community grow. It would be very difficult to recruit members since most people that play OW are all about of teams and such.

i have to say no for this one.

It's cool, but we did it before, and it died

I'd love this! Overwatch is my favorite game! even if I'm a filthy casual lol. I feel the last time we tried this as a community though...it was just people who were high ranked and played in a league/comp team. Also there wasn't a custom mode like there is now, honestly it be nice to see it be more inclusive towards everyone and lower tier / casual players, I've been invited before to play with some groups, but it always felt like I was trying out for an e-sports crew lol...I don't mind! and its an awesome learning opportunity but I just sadly don't have the days off to dedicate personally to "getting good" and I feel like I'm wasting their time so that's why I said that.

btw, I'm always up for casual or custom games and if anyone just wants to go after reward skins and stuff, just try to give me a heads up in advance so I know to take my laptop otherwise I'm free Tuesdays/Wednesdays. I do play comp but haven't ranked in over a year (i think i was silver 1700) I'm trying to learn Ashe after seeing a Twitch streamer, Warn. play her

As someone who loves overwatch on the daily im going to say no on this one, theres just no real recruitment coming from this. Also overwatch just uses custom gamemodes which are fun for event
Plus blizzard servers arent the best

But wpuld love to see it played more for events/be more populated game division

We tried this a couple years ago, but it was heavily focused around competitive gameplay. It really was just a handful of people and felt very exclusive. When regular people tried to play casually, they'd drop in and it was irritating. I literally had to hide that I was playing because the comp players would come and spectate and try to act like coaches when we just wanted to play the game. It caused a lot of problems tbh and there was drama.

I don't think we really saw much recruitment for it if I recall correctly. I don't see anything wrong with making some fun casual events though if there's some interest in OW here still. Outside of events and maybe a comp team I'm not sure how much can be provided, just based on the track record of not a ton of recruitment coming from it. I didn't really feel that playing casually there was much incentive to approach people and go "hey join our group". "Why would I want to do join your group?" You know?

I'm all for retrying stuff, I just think there needs to be a good approach to it all that makes it open for everyone to enjoy and actually entices people to join eGO with it.

lol I remember, it started out alright, we did have in house match up games which I liked. You reminded me, I had a Drunk joke comp team even with a few Gmod Friends, we did as well as you'd expect us to do :'D fun times... I know Fullmetal and Toadinsane(?) I forgot his gamer name but they were in it before marriage took them away haha.

anywhoooo, I just wanted to toss in an idea for recruitment, maybe we advertise with a post on Reddit? I know we don't ever really like advertise, but given how OW is, we might have to if we want this, otherwise how will people know to find us? At the moment honestly, I kinda see people that would join up would be from our existing pool of our main gaming divisions or people that own this game and play it already but wouldn't feel comfortable leaving their home division ( I kinda fall in here, I wouldnt leave TF2).

I'd recommend best case scenario maybe not a division per say but a supported game might work better.

A lot of the replies here seem to be based around recruitment. I don't think that the main purpose of getting an overwatch division is to just bring in new members. It should be more based around giving the existing members an easier way to meet new people in the community that play overwatch and have fun. Sure people might see this and decide to join edgegamers too. That's always possible

At that point it may as well be just an event night then, maybe recurring and regularly. Which is fairly easy to facilitate and get going overall.

Overwatch is definitely a fun game, totally agree with you there. Unfortunately, I have to agree with what december december said. The lack of dedicated servers will kill a division/game group before it even starts. I still appreciate the post, though.

Rykes Rykes find me on discord bud and we can talk. My position has just opened up and overwatch is something i think we can start to put a better push into, especially since OW2 is meant to be released the 21 of Feb 2021.
