In admin chat, we were having a discussion about a ctban on a player who had killed someone in armoury during LR, right after last gaurd.

He got ctbanned and after some context on why, Him (the player who was ctbanned), me, and some others were confused on why.
And apparently there was a rule change about a month ago which literally no one had any idea of. Except for some people.

I thought doing a server message like the ones that pop out in chat every once and a while would be a way to link and advertise these new rule changes.
Something like that

but a good recommendation legend is making the rules its own separate tab, and put all the servers on there i.e. rust, Minecraft, destiny, overwatch, and every cs server we have. it would clear a lot of the confusion up because you would see there's a new notification from that tab instead of having it at the dead bottom of the cs tab. just my two sense
Covert Covert it's very similar to the recommendation that I had. Speaking of suggestions why isn't anyone talking about them? You ask wavie what his recommendation is while also pointing out his bad grammar. Legend also commented on this thread ignoring my suggestion. Are we trying to find a solution or dilly dally until people give up?

What is your recommendation exactly? Your posts are not concise, which may have to do with the poor grammar.

We are working on a solution.

One of the solutions is admins will have their in-game permissions disabled until they sign-off on any rule changes on forums.

I guess there is a way to force people to read the forums after all.

It will force admins to read the rules, but most admins are already interested enough in eGO to actually read them without force.

I think the main issue are the regulars (non-members) and e-tags that don't care much for the forums. I'm not sure they will keep up with rule changes.

agreed, I feel like in the.. spirited discussion.. we lost track of what the main point of this suggestion was.

Making a message appear in chat like the other ones sounds a lot easier than having somebody MFK because they said "be on the table" on clouds, and they didn't know the rules were updated. Just make a chat post last for 2 weeks or so, so that everyone gets the memo rather than looking all over the forums, the only time I know about rule changes is when someone posts it in the I'm gang discord, and I go on the forums regularly. There should 100% be messages in the server chat. Saying it's too much work is just saying you'd rather the server be hectic after rule changes rather than fixing the issue instantly.

Kinda want this conversation to be revived.

TTT players have been problematic and would make it easier to sus out people for admins.
It would be great to have the rules front and center when joining the server similar to how Rust, CS:S, and Fistful of Frags. Making sure that the website is accessible and not just constantly loading/crashing like it is right now. Or just an announcement forced onto players without admin presence.

It's frustrating to hear "sorry I don't know how to play the game." Then players having to post a preloaded message in chat or some players explain how to find them.

Something needs to be done.

I would like to use sneaks' server as an example. Upon joining each session, there is a join message with their ruleset and simply pressing 9 on the keyboard will make it disappear. This would be efficient in the means that the rules are at the least directed for the players that join. I wouldn't want to see our code of conduct being broadcasted as our admins can do this manually (at least on TTT and JB). What I want specifically (and what I believe would be beneficial) is to have a message along the lines of:

"Welcome! If this is your first time joining then please see our <insert server rules link (or the very basic explanation on how to play the specific server) here>. Enjoy your time and if you have questions then feel free to type @ before your message to contact an admin for help!"

This isn't a hard implementation (it would be for me specifically because this isn't my personal forte) and would help warrant rulebreakers who "didn't know." If this is implemented then those players that break our rules are at fault for not taking the time to read the message that is forced on their screen upon each join session. I'm glad that Exvious mentioned CS:S because this has been an option for a long time.

Some players (most likely our admins, members, and regulars alike) may find this a minor inconvenience because it's a pop-up message that takes up part of their screen for a short period of time upon joining the server; however, this would help new(er) players at least have a more direct connection to our rules (updates included) and would justify rule breakers being handled properly.

Note: I mention "properly" because there are countless times where players will straight up RDM players on TTT, play t games as CT on JB, camp vents on JB, follow innocent KOS's on TTT, and MANY more. The pop-up would allow for admins to be "harsher" on the new players that now have at least been directed to our rules automatically.

Server specific pop-ups:
TTT - General breakdown in light wording of how to play the game and then link the TTT server rules.
JB - General breakdown in light wording of how to play the game and then link the JB server rules.
Surf - Code of Conduct and then link the Code of Conduct.
Bhop - Code of Conduct and then link the Code of Conduct.
AWP - Code of Conduct and then link the Code of Conduct.
KZ - Code of Conduct and then link the Code of Conduct.
Minigames - Code of Conduct and then link the Code of Conduct.
- These can be altered to see fit as well as the example above.

I am very sad and quite disappointed that this thread hasn't been resolved as this has been sitting here for a while and has been quite a productive conversation about accessibility for new players and this would be a great solution (not necessarily the only solution). I brought up sneaks under the means that it is efficient regarding new players who don't know what they should do upon joining for the first time. If that's an issue then so be it.

Keep this thread alive as this has become quite an issue on our servers lately (probably much longer than I am thinking).
