Something needs to be done.
+1.
I would like to use sneaks' server as an example. Upon joining each session, there is a join message with their ruleset and simply pressing 9 on the keyboard will make it disappear. This would be efficient in the means that the rules are at the least directed for the players that join. I wouldn't want to see our code of conduct being broadcasted as our admins can do this manually (at least on TTT and JB). What I want specifically (and what I believe would be beneficial) is to have a message along the lines of:
"Welcome! If this is your first time joining then please see our <insert server rules link (or the very basic explanation on how to play the specific server) here>. Enjoy your time and if you have questions then feel free to type @ before your message to contact an admin for help!"
This isn't a hard implementation (it would be for me specifically because this isn't my personal forte) and would help warrant rulebreakers who "didn't know." If this is implemented then those players that break our rules are at fault for not taking the time to read the message that is forced on their screen upon each join session. I'm glad that Exvious mentioned CS:S because this has been an option for a
long time.
Some players (most likely our admins, members, and regulars alike) may find this a minor inconvenience because it's a pop-up message that takes up part of their screen for a short period of time upon joining the server; however, this would help new(er) players at least have a more direct connection to our rules (updates included) and would justify rule breakers being handled properly.
Note: I mention "properly" because there are countless times where players will straight up RDM players on TTT, play t games as CT on JB, camp vents on JB, follow innocent KOS's on TTT, and MANY more. The pop-up would allow for admins to be "harsher" on the new players that now have at least been directed to our rules automatically.
Server specific pop-ups:
TTT - General breakdown in light wording of how to play the game and then link the TTT server rules.
JB - General breakdown in light wording of how to play the game and then link the JB server rules.
Surf - Code of Conduct and then link the Code of Conduct.
Bhop - Code of Conduct and then link the Code of Conduct.
AWP - Code of Conduct and then link the Code of Conduct.
KZ - Code of Conduct and then link the Code of Conduct.
Minigames - Code of Conduct and then link the Code of Conduct.
- These can be altered to see fit as well as the example above.
I am very sad and quite disappointed that this thread hasn't been resolved as this has been sitting here for a while and has been quite a productive conversation about accessibility for new players and this would be a great solution (not necessarily the only solution). I brought up sneaks under the means that it is efficient regarding new players who don't know what they should do upon joining for the first time. If that's an issue then so be it.
Keep this thread alive as this has become quite an issue on our servers lately (probably much longer than I am thinking).
