Metallica's new album title!

They've been quoted as saying "the missing link between Justice and the black album."

I'm not holding my breath.

I hear what you are saying Indryd, however did you listen to this

It sounds VERY hopeful, it sure sounds "Justice like" I am excited to see what they are coming up with. :D

Gotta hand it to you. That does sound "Justice like".

I'm always excited for a new Metallica album, regardless of my pessimism and low expectations these days.

However, I am one of maybe what like 20 "old" "true" fans (ie listening to Metallica since the early 80's) who absolutely LOVED St. Anger, so I probably would have been happy with whatever they put out so long as it didn't step back to the Load era (shudder).

The thing won't play for me i wanna hear it :(

I had trouble too, but I figured out a way around to listen to it.

Plug the following url into your favorite download manager to dl the file right to your computer.

If you don't have a favorite download manager, just plug it into firefox, at which point you will be prompted to "run xxxxxxx application" or something like that--this is just basically allowing your comp to open up windows media player and play the file--and you can listen to it that way.

Frayed ends of sanity, anyone?

This album is sounding incredible thus far. Every riff I've heard on Mission Metallica thus far I've loved. I didn;t like the album title at first when I saw the video yesterday, but now it's growing on me bigtime.

doesnt sound much like frayed ends of sanity, unless its backwards, which i doubt it is

Oh my GOD! Newman, you have to listen to the song in the new fly on the wall2 today. DUDE! I WANT IT NOW!

Are you talking about the fly on the wall for 6/16? Or are you on the platinum version of mission metallica? if its a platinum version one then i can't

what was the problems with St. Anger anyways? i havent listen to much of the album, in your opinion what was wrongwith it. My friends complained a lot about the Drums. I listened to the song St. Anger and the guitar stuff is like..muddy.

To be honest, I'm one of the 20 people that liked St.Anger. HOWEVER, it is my least favorite 'tallica album. It was a band that wasn't a 'band' in Kirk's words. They were experimenting - and it didn't come off well. There are some good songs on the album, don't get me wrong. Unnamed feeling is a fantastic song. But, it was a lyrically focused experimental album coming from 3 guys (Rob joined after production had finished) in transition that didn't have a full grasp on where they wanted to go with it.

Production is what lets the album down. Metallica is one of the best selling bands of all time, they built their own state-of-the art studio..... yet they made the album intentionally sound worse than my first bands demo that I put out when I was 15. Lars played with his snare and turned the snare off.... it made it sound like someone was dropping metal balls on a soup can. The guitars were muddy as hell because the guitars were down in drop C on most songs (drop D and drop B on some others). Plus, James' voice was not well represented at all.

Another thing is that the songs are really repetitive. There are no solos to break the monotony, and the lyrics repeat a LOT. In St.Anger, the single, all the lyrics repeat other than the bridge.

...now, to the new album.....

First, Bob Rock is gone in favor of Rick Rubin. Now I'm not going to slam Bob's steering of the band since 91, but Rick is a different kind of producer. Rather than what they did on St.Anger where they wrote the album as they went along, Rick is the kind of guy that wants them to come into the LA studio with the songs 99% ready. He wants the album tight, not the garage feeling that was St.Anger.

Second, Rob Trujillo. The best thing to happen to Metallica since Cliff joined the band. I LOVE Jason Newsted, he's one of my biggest bass influences, but he doesn't have Tru's vibe. Rob's brought a lot of energy and enthusiasm back to the band that hasn't been there in decades. What writing credits he gets is yet to be seen, but the fact that he's there has a huge impact on the record and the band itself.

Third, James is the only one writing the lyrics. It was cool that Kirk and Lars got to help during St.Anger, but..... we also got to see why James had written the lyrics on his own up to St.Anger. I mean, come on:

St.Anger lyrics:
I'm madly in anger with you?

Death Magnetic Lyrics:
Suicide, I've already died. You're just the funeral I've been waiting for
or
Bow down, sell your soul to me. I will set you free.

.....which is metal?

Now, here's the kicker. September 27th it's been 22 years since Cliff died. How close to the 27'th (a Saturday) will the album be released?

The album is supposedly scheduled for September 10th, obviously this early it is still going to move around...

Their is two songs currently released I could find.

1 - Vultorous

2 - Death is not the End

BOTH of these are very good in my eyes, I love metallica, I am only 18 years old, but I have seen them 3 times, and I did my damn graduation project on them. I have already pre-ordered the cd, and the store around me is so crooked that I am getting it most likely 4 days in advance. Now I don't mean to brag, but I'll let you know how it sounds =D
