My thoughts on the Pyro Update

I know we've all been through this before with the medic update... but honestly guys.

I went into Dustbowl just a minute ago and saw that we had 7 pyros on the team. The problem was... the majority of those were e's, eg's, and ego's. I didn't say anything because I wasn't going to undercut the eGO's that were already in there. I asked nicely a few times, if a few could switch but nobody did.

Farming these achievements are SUPER SUPER EASY. I just got all my new weapons with my roomate in 40 min (before I hopped on an eGO server). Since Valve was smart, they put them at the 10/15/22 achievement intervals to get the weapons.

Just remember, 2 people, 40 min and we both got all our weapons. Don't ruin the servers, we are apart of eGO and we should keep our servers to the highest of standards..... farm these achievements with a friend or two on a network connection, don't make the eGO servers suffer.

Sorry posted in the wrong spot. Can you please move to the TF2 section.

Thank you

I feel this way to. People who told me "You suck, you farmed them", but then they go ahead and make the game boring by filling a server with pyros.

Wow. This statement couldn't be more backward.

eGO consistently represents two philosophies:

1. Be cool to everyone.

2. Play how you want to play.

I mean really, getting on people who are playing how they want to play? And then saying everyone should get them the cheap way to save YOU the bother?

lol

i got all of my weapons with my friend in line an hour, we joined the black mesa server and couldn't do anything because it is too hard to get behind a pyro, and there are like 8 per team

1) I asked nicely and left it at that.

2) Play how you want to play, don't farm.

Being that everything I did was completely legit, but didn't hurt the servers in any way shape or form. But go ahead and be that 8th pyro to completely ruin the game for 2 weeks.

So far the update is a lot of fun... cool new toys, the air blast seems neat. Pyros do crazy damage now. The fact that they eliminated the fall-off damage just really makes the pyro roll over just about everyone. I couldn't stay alive for more than a min it seemed

i don't understand what the big deal is. Today is the first day of the pyro update, I excepted there to be a lot of pyros. Advisors gave us the go-ahead on allowing everyone to be pyro and I know that will change after a few days. Sure, there will be a couple more pyros than usual but I'm sure we'll get the okay to be able to kick people that refuse to change classes when admins feel it's disrupting the game AFTER the first day it's out.

Have some patience.

I kinda feel at odds with this - I am a pyro at heart and only switch to a few other classes when it's absolutely dire that I be an engineer or demoman/spy.

With Pyro being 15% of my playtime in the eGO servers, as well as the flamethrower being 65% of my weapon used for kills. >.< If we all farmed our weapon unlocks, there would be no point to valve releasing it like that. Instead of awarding people with unlocks over time, you spend 30 minutes to beat the system.. and what have you achieved? You can pretend to have skill with a class all you want by having all the weapon unlocks; but in truth, the achievements are directed to help you understand the role that class plays for the team -- particularly for the pyro, considering their strategies changed rather dramatically with this patch.

Oh well - to each their own, I suppose.

Well you have to remember eGO members are players also. And i didnt expect any less out of it, opening day, everyone wants to get the weapons and try them out.

Warpath, as a Heavy, i had a particularly good time gunning down Pyros rushing straight for me. :D That'll teach'em a lesson.

So far the Pyro rollout seems to be much easier to cope with than the medic one. I guess the game is still playable with 6/7 pyros compared to useless with 6/7 medics?

idk, maybe it's because any dufus can use a flamethrower but it takes a little skill to play medic?

Is it just me or does it seem like this update has really over powered the pyro? I thought the whole point of the pyro was to do massive damage at close range, spread people out when it groups and take out sg's around corners. Now they can hit you with the flamethrower from what seem like 30 feet. They do way more damage with the flamethrower and if they get you from behind you have no chance. This is the worst, they can deflect ammo and nullify an ubercharge like it's nothing with that air blast. Thank god they can air blast jump with it. The medic achievements gave players options in the realm of being a medic. The pyro update now makes the pyro a pyro/soldier/demo. I completely understand 10 pryos on a team. Why be one class when you can be three at the same time.

I think the air compression blast needs to have a cooldown or cost much more ammo. I know it may be just because there are tons of pyros right now, but on every uber charge I deployed last night to take out a sentry, I was juggled in the air by three pyros compression blasting. Three pyros on a team normally isn't unheard of, and they can do stuff like that...

Yeah but to have all 3 pyros in one place is going to be rare once people lay off the achievements. The problem was no matter where you went there was a pyro.

I don't believe the pyro is overpowered. I've played pyro a lot in the past couple months, it was my favorite class, and these are some much needed changes. The compression blast is no different than a demo's stickies. Lets compair:

Demo's Stickies:
Blow people away
Takes some time to put all of them out
Do Damage
Can be used from afar

Pyro's Airblast:
Blow's people/nades and rockets away
Can be used fairly quickly
Doesn't do damage
Has to be used up close

I just believe people aren't used to the pyro being a good class, they are almost on the level of a demoman now.

The question you really have to ask yourself is, was a pyro ever good without an uber? Yeah he was good, but not nearly as good as other classes, it took skill to be a good pyro, you couldn't just charge head first into battle like any other class, you had to be smart and sneaky. Now I believe this patch gives the pyro those much needed abilities to truely be a good offensive class (which is their class title btw).

I forgot to add. I do feel like eliminating the drop off was a bad idea. If you go anywhere near a pyro you were burnt to a crisp in less than a second. Killing people wasn't hard before with the drop off in place. Plus without the drop off, I believe it makes the Axetinguisher a worthless weapon, cause you will never feel the need to take it out when your main gun does so much damage.

Maybe I'm wrong and there were just to many pyro's to deal with last night, but as of now thats how I feel. I'll wait a week or two to reevaluate.

we dont allow farming on our servers.....but having a lot of pyro isnt farming.

heres what i would do....since pryo's are a good all-around player....i would just have fun!!!

it they started to organize stuff to help get their achievments, then i would step in and asked them to stop.

think about it.....if they got their new weapons by farming on a differnt server, then come to ours to play, arent they just gonna play pyro because they have all the weapons?

being a pyro on a team that has 7 pyro IS NOT FARMING.

personally i think the world need a little more flame!

Nice Update, but some achievements are really buggy - like the flaregun 100 ingnites - undoable yet - its stuck on 42/100

Pyro's compression blast is MUCH different from Demo stickies. Especially in the context of ubers. Here's why:

Neither of them do damage to ubered people, so that's a null point. You need atleast two stickies, maybe more, to completely split ubers apart. And that's if the demo is atleast decent. One stickie can do if the medic is just continuously crouch jumping. Now, let's take a look at the compression blast. You can probably do two or three compression blasts in the time it takes to lay two stickies and blow them (I don't know this logistic yet.) The pyro runs over to the medic, pops him in the air once, then just juggles him. He can't reach his uber target, so the target either has to come straight back, or doesn't notice and dies because he is out of uber range. Most uber targets (demomen) bypass players after unloading their grenade launcher so they can whip their stickies out and take out a sentry or two. Thus, the pyro has free reign to run straight to the medic. Heck, a decent pyro could just go hide in a corner until the ubered people pass, then pop-pop-pop, the medic and the target are separated.

By no means do I think Pyro is overpowered. I just think that the compression blast needs to have a longer cooldown, or cost maybe 75 ammo instead of 50. 2 blasts from full ammo + 50 fire ammo, seems more reasonable to me.

Perhaps I won't run into this problem after the pyro update rush. I just think that it's a highly abusable game function at the moment, not in the terms that its actual ABUSE, but that any decent player can completely dismantle most uber runs by themselves..
