DoD 3.1B - available again!!

Many of you may not have ever played this, but the classic DoD 3.1 beta version, released before the game was even bought by Valve, and released long before Source, has been re-compiled into an installer and works on STEAM.

A few servers are even up. So for those that have some nostalgia, or want to see where our current DoD came from, give it a whirl. It's totally free. I might try playing it a bit again later too..

I think I will give this a try. I started playing it around ver 1.0 when it came out in a retail box so it should be interesting to see what the game is like even earlier.

so this is 3.1b will it affect my regular DoD? I mean not the source one but classic.
I want to make sure i don't mess up and have to reinstall everything again.
Ill give it a try since i love that 3.1

It doens't effect the install of anything you currently have. It installs as a mod into STEAM. You just have to ensure you install the files into your /half-life/ directory.

Yeah, you do need the original half life for this to run. That said... it's dirt cheap now.

I played this for a bit earlier today, and it sure feels like the more recent DoD, just minus a few player classes. Made me miss the days when DoD wasn't dead though

I hate bots; they are the cancer of DoD.

Unless things have changed recently, I always found it too much of a hassle to find a server without bots and with a decent number of people. Do you have a few favourites?

Yeah, nice playing with you yesterday. We've had a decent crowd coming by to check it out. Even Kendle popped in this weekend and played with us a bit. The game is a fun little blast from the past. If you can cope with the graphics anyway.

Yeah things were going good till I tried to ajust my screen resolution then it crashed on me. Now when I join the server it crashes and gives me some fatal error.

Hm... you might want to delete the "dod31" folder, and re-install it. If you tried to change to a graphical setting that was incompatible, this could happen... and then every time you try to boot it up, that setting is what crashes you.
