Reminder to 'e' members giving warnings/reminders when in-game.

Paperbag,

Yes. You open up team chat (U) and put an @ before your message. This will send a message to admins on the server.

Example (team chat (U button) is open): @thE_n00b just cursed on voice, can someone please warn him? Thanks.

Good to know, thanks

remember, first y(default teamspeak)@ then a space and then your text else everyone see it on your team
example in teamspeak:

@ that pub is really swearing, just to let you know

y's actually alltalk. It's u that's teamspeak =)

Admins have our own explicit guidelines about how warn players. As for =(e)= and pub players, the only guidelines to follow are those in the general rules: be respectful, watch your own language, don't badmouth eGO, don't mess with the admins, etc. If you decide to remind someone of a rule, just don't break the rules in the process!

More than anything else, the #1 thing that non-admins can do to help is just lead by example. Follow the rules and politely help others understand them if they are confused. Have fun and make it fun for everyone else. If you do that much on your own, chances are good that you'll have an =(eG)= of your own in time... and then the whole game changes.

Of course, everything I've said is trumped by whatever an eGO+ says. ;)

Most of the time of what i see an =(e)= could actually handle the situation. When someone uses bad language a simple warning does the job most of the time. I agree with the first post tho. Not all =(e)= follow the warning rules.

So, just so we're on the same page...

(Toggle Allspeak) "Foulmouthedplayer, please do not swear on our servers, thank you."

And to the admin:

(Toggle Teamspeak) "@ It seems as though Foulmouthedplayer likes the "F-word" a bit too much."

Are these correct?

I dont see this often but make sure you see an admin isnt dealing with it first

Well, from what i'm given to understand, an admin has a private chat option to specific players, so there may be no way of me knowing...so admins, try not be too hard on me when I start using the above procedures, kay?

Looks good, but you don't need the quotes at all.

Also incase you didn't know when you do the (toggle teamchat) @ blah blah blah

You will not see any response or indication that your message was sent to the admin channel but it was sent.

i think we should all warn them like u said. but sometimes i get distracted and forget to warn sometimes...

That ISN"T a bad thing, you are not in the server to admin you are there to play the game as are we all. Admining is just a little extra responsibility we have to keep the game play fun.

I know, but it is our server. If we non-admins aren't leading by example and encouraging others to do so, what kind of message does that send to others: "If you're not an admin, you don't have to care."

But that's just NOT SO.

Part of the reason why I joined is because everyone with an ego tag CARES about their servers.

I'm all for us all paying attention and trying to make our servers places we like to play. Wearing the tag, even if (in some ways, especially if) I'm not an admin, causes me to be held to a higher standard, both in behavior and awareness.

And let me tell you...the urge to cuss out some pub for abject stupidity, poor sportsmanship, or just being an abject turd burglar, has been strong...but my e tag reminds me that this is MY house and I shouldn't be making messes in it. I may not HAVE to care, but I do. And I honestly believe that almost everyone who wears an ego tag does, too.

I feel the same way. I want to protect "my sandbox" from the "bad kids." I will try to wit until an Admin says something, but if not, I will try to be polite about it.

There is no problem with e members who wants to take care of the server, it is actually quite a good thing, but part of the admin leadership is also in the communication between us that regulars or e members don't see... We can talk if he is acting terrible and should be warned or that we should let it go for now or pretty much anything what we can't say in the open. We can't accuse someone if we are not certain about something, that is why admin chat is so important, for the communication between us.

if all admins would react the same way to a person that he should behave, and there are like 5 green all text, that is not the way it should be done, and gives out a bad message to the pub/e member, he probably feels intimidated by all admins in the server.

What if all e members would say at the same time watch the language?

We admins can easily say, I got this in admin chat, and work it out, to prevent situations like this. So if the e members want to help, use the admin chat, because we can overlook something, or are not aware of a spray or something and that will be much appreciated.

And we also can use the green all-text to make the message more clear than just allspeak.

Im always correct people on their language. Politely of course. There are a few who continue to abuse with no admins around

honestly, i believe that e's should be able to see admin chat. it would give them an easy example of how to lead and deal with situations properly, and let them know the situation is being dealt with. i do; however, also think that their admin chat speaking abilities should be limited to only a few statements every few minutes or totally cut off. just my 2 cents there and im sure the system is set up as it is for good reasons.

kudos scrappy.

It is a good idea that some e's will see it, but I wont give it to the newly promoted ones, maybe the ones that are around for a bit longer, but then you might as well just wait till the promotion.

You are correct. We can send chat to a specific player. We can also open a private chat with them where everything they type can only be seen by us. We also can mute any player's mic, take away any player's chat abilities (team and all), bring back the McRib, and make the sun rise 15 minutes earlier.

I don't mind e's warning pubs using voice. I've witnessed the effect of some pub dropping an f-bomb on the mic and a couple of other players saying "dude, watch the language" and "yeah, they kick for that here". I'd rather prefer that to them being warned in chat by a non-admin. Five e's chatting "Idol, please don't cuss" is going to seem as disorganized as five admins green-texting me the same thing. To avoid this over-admining, we usually call our shots in admin-chat, "I got this", or "mine!" Sometimes the lone eGO in the server will hand it off to one of the eG's, "all yours Idol" or "who wants this?"

If you want to help, be gentle, be courteous, don't be over-zealous or threaten anyone "I'm gonna go get an admin and he's gonna kick you" isn't the way to go about it. Best thing you can do is lead by example. Second best is probably admin chat (even though you can't see it), especially if the only admin(s) in the server are on the other team. We like to play the game too, and sometime miss stuff in the mayhem of pushing that little cart, but green chat on my screen always gets my attention.

I feel I should weigh in on this dicussion before the thread gets out of hand. It's a long post, but it's chock full of advisory goodness. :)

I did not know that! How exactly does that work? Using team chat you type your message as normal with an "@" before it? or "@sgt Mcawesome" at the end? Just curious.

That's a very cool feature! I've been playing for a relatively long time and did not know about that. Thanks for the info.

I think this has already been mentioned, but remember guys. If you are using this method, only the admins will see the message. Best practice would be for the admin to send you a private message acknowledging your "admin alert", but if the admin is busy already he may not take the time to acknowledge it.

And I mention this because, I want to make sure that everybody is aware of the existence of admin chat. e's and pubs may not see it, but a lot of times there will be plenty of discussion behind the scenes when an offense occurs.

e's, a general rule of thumb here: if the admins on the server have been actively handling the situations, don't issue a warning. Chances are they caught it and are discussing it in admin chat. (IE, Has the player been warned before? Is somebody preparing to issue a ban? Etc.) A common mantra around here that creeps up again and again is "Admining is not a race." We want our admins to make sure they do things right, good communication among the admins is a key part of doing things right, and sometimes good communication takes a bit of time.

If, after some time, an admin hasn't addressed the issue, go ahead and use the method described above to send a message to admin chat. The admins on the server may have just missed the offense or they may have been afk for a minute to grab a drink or something.

While we don't mind e's helping out at all, we also need to make sure that problems are properly handled by those with the official authority on the server. For that matter, I've even seen regulars on some of our servers issue unofficial warnings and alert problem players to our rules. Really, the only time an e should be issuing a warning is if there are no admins on the servers or if the admins aren't addressing any problems on the servers. (And leadership does take notice of those admins who don't do their job.)

For all of our admins, if you're in a server and an e is issuing warnings before you, please politely psay them to thank them for their assistance, but to also let them know that you are present and handling the server.

Very well put, Jack.

Again, there is nothing wrong with e's helping on the servers. We just want to make sure that you all don't step on the eG's and eGO's toes while doing it. Ultimately, the ones with admin are the ones responsible for the server.

Just remember, if you do need to warn for something, please follow Scrappy's guidelines. He hit the nail on the head with how to warn properly.

"Language."

or

"Watch your language."

1. Identify the person, by name. (They might not realize it's meant for them!)
2. Use a complete sentence. (The whole subject-verb thing.)
3. Say "Please." (Better to ask nicely!)

the disturbing thing, i was on server and an admin used y@ and said language, that stunned me a little
