Watchmen - Review

There are two sex scenes and one attempt to assault in the comic and movie.. I feel they did a good job with the movie. Its part of the story to have them in the movie.Boy were they right that Synder did not leave anything out as far as gruesome gore stuff. Rorschach was by far my favorite character in the movie, Jackie Earle Haley did a wonderful job depicting how Rorschach was in the comics. The part in the prison where he tells all the inmates "I'm not locked in here with you! You're locked in here with ME!" was awesome in the theater because everyone was cheering all together. I thought it would be packed for the midnight showing but it wasn't as full most of the viewers were core fans of the watchmen. There were people dressed up too which was cool as well.At first I didn't think Malin Akerman would do a good job at playing Laurie Jupiter but I was wrong. There were things of course taken out of the movie from the comic that kept the movie around a 3 hour length. I do recommend to read the comic book to real appreciate the movie but to understand it you can look up the plot in wiki. The special effects in the movie were a blast to see, glad they waited till the technology was at the right level to make the movie. The soundtrack to the movie had its moments but the orchestra part of it was great. The side stories were sort of present in the movie but in the background. I really wish they didn't remove a certain event with the original Nite Owl as it played a big part in getting Dan Dreiberg (Nite Owl II) to finally make a stand than playing passive with the events taking place in the movie. I like how they really depicted a different version of history from nixon still being president to famous moments in human history. Like the marine who kisses the girl in New York after the announcement that WWII was over.
I do recommend the movie. I don't feel it to be a movie of the year type like "The Dark Knight" because of the amount of people that know about it.
There is also an animated comic dvd that was release so you can watch that as well instead of reading the comic because it is the same thing. Only thing I didn't like about it was that the voice was all done just by one person.

I gave it an A- instead of an A+ because the lack of sex scenes in comparison to the scenes of blue dong all over the place.
I give it a B+. The movie could have been longer. The scenes felt rushed aswell. And the fight scenes*facepalm*. I just wanted to cry during the cheesy prison fight scene. There are also parts in the movie which could be explained better. Take Bubastis, Adrian's "cat" as an example. A person who has not read the GN will not know what this is, and in the movie, Bubastis made no sence at all. I liked the movie though. And Hollis Mason's
will ge shown in the Director's Cut coming out this fall. And btw, the new ending was ok, although, ruins of a city doesn't affect you the same way ruins with corpses everywhere would, so the new ending was more like, "Oh look, the city blew up, whatever", that's at least how I felt.

I was about to make a thread about this, I like reviewing movies.
Watchmen was a pleasant surprise. Considering the material they had to work with, they did a great job adapting it. There were a lot of things changed and/or left out, but thats par for the course with movies like this. The direction is tight and some of the best material Snyder has yet to put on film. Unlike in 300, he doesn't abuse the "Slow-mo/fast-mo" BS, he still uses it, but not every few seconds. The visuals are brilliant and there are many fast moving and intense camera shots and movements. The characters are all brilliantly realized and the effects are an absolute joy to see on a regular screen or IMAX. The film is every bit a visual wonder as it is an example of the genre.
Another thing it succeeds it as appealing to people who haven't read the graphic novel. Some movies make it too much of a fan thing, and while some of the backstory about the Minutemen is delivered in an awkward way that might confuse people who haven't read the graphic novel, the rest is done well enough for them to get in. My wife and my brother were with me, neither of whom have read the GN yet and now have more interest in it having loved this film.
As much as a splendor it is to see on film, it also has a great soundtrack. The original soundtrack is haunting, creepy, and effective. The film uses several mixes of songs from the 60s, 70s and 80s, and quite effectively. Using Simon & Garfunkel's "Hello Darkness my old friend" during The Comedians funeral was great.
Overall: Watchmen is amazing in every aspect. It has its short comings, it's not as good as the graphic novel, but when are movies based on books/graphic novels/etc ever going to be perfect adaptations? It did an amazing job capturing the graphic novels visuals- as well as its story.

Considering what the movie and novel tells us, it would be weird for The Comedian to try to get a kiss from Silk Spectre.

Awesome Movie, saw it twice on Friday like the nerd-core geek I am...
It reminds me of The Godfather, seriously...its pretentious and insists upon itself(see:family guy)...but so awesome...
Like the Godfather it had that "the names have been changed to protect the guilty" vibe. Like its all true and actually happened. Almost like its the true story of superman, batman, captain america, and the punisher...and the comic book versions are only that...comic books.
I didn't like the actress that played Laurie Jupiter, she sounded and acted alittle too hurt valley girl. But I think everyone else was spot on, The Comedian and Rorschach were incredible.
The scene when he tells the prison shrink about himself was probably my favorite.
All in all, considering the rape, the murder, the male nudity, and the subversive "middle finger" vibe it had...I don't think Zack Snyder did anything wrong with the adaptation...it was a very good movie.
