6 pack of beer, in bottles.

The beer heals 150HP, and takes 4 seconds to drink.

After you finish the beer, you are "woozy" for 2 additional seconds (the camera tilts left or right 20 degrees, then takes 2 seconds to tilt back upright.)

An Engineer can drink a bottle with fire. However, if he is in melee range of a friendly character and alt-fires, he hands a bottle to that character, who then...

(I haven't decided which would be less unbalancing:)

1) Chooses when to drink it.
2) Carries it for up to 15 seconds, and can choose when to drink it.
3) Can choose to drink it immediatly, or drop it, switching back to their regular weapon.

Beer puts out fire.

If (1 or 2 above), the beer either takes the place of the target's melee weapon, or adds a new "slot" to the rotation while you carry it.

This would make the Engineer more helpful to his teammates when the team and the Engineer is away for his dispenser and medikits. Useful for Medics who can't heal themselves to put out fires.

Tbh, I'm getting a bit tired of the food/drinks. It's a bloody FPS not an RPG! Not that that is a bad idea though...

I agree. I don't want all the classes to have consumables, any more than I want all the classes to have one-hit-taunt-kills. I think those things define a class, and having all the classes have feature "X" destroys the point of deciding between classes.

However, the Engineer did drink a beer in the Meet the Engineer video, and a Texan handing another Texan a frosty adult beverage just seems... right.

Shotgun Replacement: Kill-Counter

This handy dandy ticking device is worn on the belt, and is active 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so there is no need to actually use the Kill-Counter, it does all the work!

By giving up some of your small combat suave, you will be given a new supplier of metal!

If your level 1 sentry kills an enemy while you wear this manly looking device, ding! 25 metal!
Level 2? 50!
Level 3? 75 metal!

This is a great accessory for engineers that want to set up close to the heat of battle, and upgrade in the process. The more kills your sentry gets, the more resources you have to build and upgrade. But on the downside, your only firepower away from your beautiful tripod is a lowly pistol and your wrench, making you more dependant on your machinery.

Taunt difference: The engineer takes off the kill counter and puts it on the floor, and breaks out a nice cold beer to take a drink. The taunt provides no special benefit, and is slightly longer then the average, but it is all the more humiliating to see the engineer having a beer-break in the background as his sentry tears you a structurally superfluis new behind!

:-) Amazing, just amazing.

To me, this doesnt fit into the engi's gameplay.

drinking a beer to regain XP? maybe if he was made for combat, but the average engi is camping his sentry/dispenser, which would heal him.

hmm alot of these ideas make me see the engi being a bit too overpowered. in my opinion, he really doesnt need an entire class update, but more of a buff.

I don't know if they would allow beer drinking in the game but it is a cool idea lol. I remember in TFC the Demo had a cigarette and the Engi a cigar, they dont even have tobacco in TF2. It more looks like the demo has a drinking problem, the heavy has a eating problem, the engi chews tobacco and the spy smokes lol. I think it would be cool if the demo could heal by using the bottle taunt as well.

The engineer is actually fine as he is, no buff is required. If you took medics out of the equation, engineers would be the dominate player in TF2. On those defense/offense maps, I can tell you it certainly isnt a medic and his buddy thats stopping you from getting there, its an engy and HIS buddy. and his buddy doesn't miss often.

Like a lot of updates for classes that are already good, you provide alternatives that serve another function. For example, my Kill-Counter idea makes him better at getting his gear up fast, but at the cost of his best weapon for combat situations, making him enitrely dependant on his machine to function well and to protect him from harm (also meaning he will be less likely to venture from it and be forced to camp.)

Natascha is not better than Sasha, nor is she worse, she has a different use, you dont treat it the same way. Same goes for the Sandvich. In certain cases, some classes will get obvious upgrades like the medic did, because people found it unrewarding, or certain aspects not beneficial enough to make them want to play. In this case, they gave the medic a lot of extra bite as well as a new medigun for those that prefer getting gory rather then be invincable.

Since engy is fine, from plenty of peoples views, he will likely get alternative weapons made more to fit certain playstyle niche's rather than upgrades.

I dont have any specific idea or name, but I think that the wrench upgrade should be something with some spicy Texas name (or maybe something like monkey wrench), or maybe could just be a guitar that he weilds like El Cabong! Anyway, i think that it should have the ability to create things like:

1) able to build two sentries up to lvl 2 or 3 to lvl 1
2) teleporters that work both ways, or multi-man teleports
3) something crazy, like dispensers being able to hand out random critz' or random short spurts of ubers

Or be able to build entirely new devices, like:

1) a barrier that can be used to block off doors or areas, and has like 200 HP
2) a bomb-type dispenser/cannon
3) maybe a forcefield that heals allies and hurts enemies, or deflects bullets for a period of time (similar to the first new device)

All of the new devices would have drawbacks of course, like slower firing speed for guns, cost more metal, build slower, etc.

There is only one thing I want and that is a targeting stick. Make it a laser pointer that makes the sentry fire at whatever it is pointing at. You can make some for of a disavantage but I just want the laser pointer!

Your first 3 ideas would never be implimented, those ARE overpowered in contrast to my previous statement.

1) The barrier is a decent idea, but it certainly isnt original, people have been wanting it since TF2 was released.

2) wut?

3) thats basically a barrier with benefits, perhaps a bit much.

ya, in retrospect i kinda agree

I think the forcefield wouldbe pretty cool though. Block bullets for a certain time and heal people, idk i'm not the ones making tf2

I still think itd be pretty great to have his melee be a guitar or banjo or something though. That'd be sweet

The demo drinks his scrumpy, can't imagine there'd be a problem with the beer. And the Spy smokes; his disguise kit is a cigarette case!

Drinking beer shouldn't be a problem; like I said, it's in Meet teh Engie :D

Pistol replacement; point the laser and it aims at it, pull the trigger and it shoots things. AWESOMEZOR.

IN OTHER NEWS: Beverage concessions seems to be exactly what the Engineer is for; now he's a mobile dispenser! Maybe when he gives you a bottle, you have a choice: drink it for health, or drop it for ammo :P Why not? Bats give you bullets.

Overpowered? He loses his pistol and only gets six brewskies. Sounds like a fair trade, for an Engie to run some health forward to people who are out of range of his dispenser.

Meh, I don't think we need another healing drink.
But, for the beer, it shouldn't be a permanent healing. Heals a certain percantage of damage, but wears off, and the user also gets the drunk vision. :p
