I would like to know if anyone would be willing to help me with getting better at sinpeing..I can do alright sometimes..but most of the time I just get my head blown off.. You would think that would cause me to stop playing Sniper but, I just can't seem to kick the desire to play this class..Any kind of advice, tactics, or anything else would be much appreachated...I am sure I have ran into a few of you before on Blackmesa or either of the 2fort servers, and every once and awhile Warpath aswell..If I have..then you most likely know what I am talking about and know I could most likely use some help :D

Oh and by the way: if there is a thread already pertaining to this..then sorry..I must have missed it.

Move around. Don't stay in one spot no matter how good it is. You can go back to it after a while when the other team stops looking for you in that spot. Find places where you wouldn't think a sniper would be. Jump around in between shots as a moving target is harder for other snipers to hit.

Use the machete if you encounter close range resistance because IMO the smg sucks.

Disclaimer: Any advice given is from a player that has over 100 hours of sniper experience but hasn't played sniper in over a month. This advice may be completely wrong and you should listen to Voided or other snipers that are better than me.

Practice practice practice, and i would like to disagree with theexclamationpoint on the staying in one spot. I like to stay in one spot and snipe everyone before they get to me, but hes right about the machete part.

Don't stand still, and aim for the head. Sniper just like every other class takes time to learn the mechanics. Practice, practice, practice. I would suggest going to the 2Fort automatic respawn map to start.

I actually wouldn't suggest 2fort instaspawn, mainly because it's just a snipefest, and it's all corner sniping. :/

Sniper takes some practice, just work at it, it's basically all about the aiming. I came from TFC as a sniper so it just made it easier. Learn all the good spots and don't just focus on the enemies snipers, your job is to slow the flow of the enemy.

Also like the above poster said, SMG does NOT suck especially when it crits, you can take down a heavy with it if you are close enough.

this is exactly what i do and im ok at sniping not the greatest but im ok

Unlike the spy and most other classes, you can't do much but practice. It's 90% twitch reflex and precise aiming, which are things you can't really be taught.

Wait...Voided is considered good at sniping? Good at having a medic follow him around, but sniping...hm... ;)

In any case, if you want to get better at sniper go to a map where there's a lot of strong competition. Definitely not 2Fort, snipers there are all corner-snipers and not very good even at that. I would recommend Warpath if you want to get better. There's pretty much always one sniper playing who's a map-regular, and therefore very good. During peak hours there can be about 3 or 4 per team who are far and away better than anything you'll find on 2Fort.
