I don't know how anybody else feels but, I find that the sniper spam on 2fort can be REALLY overwhelming 99% of the time. I know there's some servers that do this and TFC did it as well, a two or three sniper limit (!) I'm sure there are going to be people who say "But it's part of the game!!!!" but seriously I think it's a good idea. Does anybody else think as I do?

Another thing is "exploits." I don't know everything we consider to be an exploit of TF2 (as I'm not a native TF2 division-er) Things that are easy to deal with are considered exploits and at least one thing that's nigh impossible to deal with isn't. Water floating flaming (or whatever you want to call it) is not the hardest thing to deal with or particularly annoying, and what else is a pyro to do? Something I discovered we don't consider an exploit and is nigh impossible to counter is stickies through the grates. Why should this not be considered and exploit while standing on base overhangs and water fire is? Either make them ALL "exploits" or don't make anything an exploit. If Valve has done nothing perhaps they aren't even exploits? -.- Anyways, those are my thoughts, I'm not trying to sound anarchist, they're just my personal opinions.

I am going to address the water-pyro exploit:
It is not fixible. When making a map, the water is like a wall that you can go inside, with special textures. So when a pyro's weapon is out of the water and firing in it is not able to be stopped.

I am going to address the overhang places:
If it looks like someone is standing in mid air, then it isn't allowed as a general rule of thumb. That is why those are not allowed.

I am going to address sticky's on the grate:
Yes, they are hard to counter. Although so are most sticky spammed corners and doorways if you are not careful. Does that mean that sticky camping the corner of the sewers should be exploiting? Just because most people get caught by it. The explosion goes through the "holes" in the grating, you just need to be extra careful in those spots.

They are my opinions.

I have to agree with Midget here....especially on the stickies on the grate....Now as far as I know it...the pyro walking on water is not allowed on the eGO servers.....I know when I first started playing there was a big ordeal about it

oh and also.....I agree that sometimes it is kinda overwhelming with all the snipers on 2Fort....but thats when you get your team to go Sniper and counter the snipers from the other team

I agree with the 2 sniper limit. But the other problems should be admined as they are at this point in time.

Countersniping isn't the best solution, Spam is! Sometimes I'll get annoyed with the number of snipers on the other team and just spend about 5 minutes doing nothing but flaregun spamming their sniper deck. After that there are usually only one or two snipers left ;) Long-range stick spam is also useful.

yes your right....remember there is always more than one way to skin a cat.....not that ive tried to skin a cat but anyway......If you have an overabundance of snipers on the otherside....you can always countersnipe or as you say atten you can spam the battlements....after being blown up a few times some of the snipers will give up......I mean sorry to say it but I think that class limits should only be done on special events....when its a regular game let them go all sniper.....if everyone is sniper then there is little base defense.....just my 2 cents :P

To deal with snipers, RJ/spam their battlements. To combat water-flaming Pyros, just kill them. It doesn't get any harder than that. For the grates, attack from sewer and go through the long hallway. Unless you're a Soldier/Demo, you can damage the lamer camping the grates from underneath. Works wonders against Engineers building on top of the grates too.

Yeah snipers get annoying but they're easy to counter

The pyro glitch shouldn't be allowed because thats where you put your self out, then the pyro just jumps in and your burning IN the water. If a pyro has that much trouble just use a shotty.

I have to say excessive snipers is not as big an issue as excessive engies. Sometimes the other team has like 6 engies putting sentries everywhere. It takes long enough to blow just one of them up. Because if there are 2 or more engies healing it with dispenser nearby, it won't go down. And it's bullets never miss.

I also have to agree with flame in the water. Cmon flamethrowers have pilot lights that should extinguish immediately upon contact with water. Even if the flamethrower was engaged, the actual fuel being burnt wouldn't be able to maintain a burning temperature in the water nor would it have any type of range through it.

Water flaming is a W/K/B offense if i am not mistaken. I have never kicked for it personally but i have warned many times.

being a player who has camped the grats with a Demo I will say that Demo on the grats isn't that hard to counter. It just takes a little bit of Strat-teg-ery. I have notice a suicidal scout works to get my to pop my stickies and then have everyone run in as soon as they see him blow up.

I also how many great battles I have had with players like TP or C_Town when they were trying to kill me off of the grats.

Which type of water flaming is the wrong kind though?

  • The kind where the pyro floats around the top of the water and shoots flames above the water line?
or

  • The kind where the pyro is on dry land and points his flamethrower into the water?

I know for a fact that most players on 2fort last night were confused on the issue.

On the subject of reality...

  • The Heavy wouldn't be able to support the weight of his body, let alone his weapon with those tiny baby legs.
  • A piece of cardboard with a drawing on it wouldn't fool anyone.
  • The Engineer's dispenser system would've long ago covered the world in gray goo.
  • Snipers would always miss due to wind conditions since they all aim right for the head.
  • Medics wouldn't be able to cure people with magic ray-guns.
  • Scouts would all have broken legs from the fall damage.
  • Soldiers would have no legs from the rocket jumping.
  • Demos would explode anytime they're in the blast radius of an explosive due to all the grenades they carry.
  • Pyros would explode any time their propane tanks were shot.

never enough engies - you walk out the door with 8 snipers aiming at you. As per flaming in the water w/k/b only ever warned

I'm just going to go ahead and toss in here that we are not going to put a class limit on our regular maps. That pretty much goes against our policy of not telling people how to play. Sure it can be annoying sometimes, but instead of complaining about it try to counter it. Go be a spy, or spam the heck out of the sniper deck with stickies and rockets. Or you could always try one of our other maps :-)

I strongly disagree with you about the sniper spam being overwhelming 99% of the time. As another 2fort regular, there are many ways to counter an over abundance of snipers. Here are some solutions:

1) Uber out of the base: At the very least, push across the bridge with a medic soldier/demo, then spam the battlements and guard the enemy's front door.

2) As a demo (or even a soldier), spam the battlements or front doors from the water. It's easy to do and most snipers are too busy aiming higher.

3) Switch to spy, and backstab the whole lot of them a few times in a row. That'll frustrate most players enough to get them to switch classes.

4) Soldier rocket spam with additional support from medics.

5) The "2 Engineers 1 Dispenser" method. He would stand behind the wall on the left side of the battlements, then continuously (and blindly) lob stickies onto the enemy battlements. He wouldn't kill too many snipers, but he would keep them at bay as they were busy shooting away all the stickies.

The next time you are pinned down in your base by 3-4 snipers, pay attention to which ones are actually getting the kills. Ususally, there are either 1 or 2 REALLY good snipers doing 90% of the work, then 1 or 2 more mediocre snipers getting a few of the kills.

On the flip side of the coin... Imagine if you limit the number of snipers on a team to 2 and your team's snipers are newbs who are frankly not very good at sniping. Imagine how frustrating that would be if nobody else could then switch to sniper and the two newbs ignored requests for them to switch to another class?

It is a game, but there has to be some similarities for real life, not as much as above. Imagine TF2 with FF, one bullet to the head kills, etc etc. Much like COD, even then COD isn't all too realistic 5, 6 bullets and I'm still living? yeah...

There are basic principals that should be in games like Water > Fire etc. even if the game isn't too realistic.

But the fact still stands that realism should not be a point of contention when it comes to the water-burning problem. You either go all the way one way or you don't, there's not halvies just because it supports your argument.
