was just thinking about sli stuff. could a geforce 9800 x2 and say a 9800 gtx+ run in sli together? would it be considered triple sli, or just double sli?

my guess is that they wouldnt be able to run in sli together. but since i couldnt really find any answers via google i thought i would post here.

You've got to have all of the same video cards to SLI them.
not neccicarilly with ATi radeon cards you can CFX any 2 of the same series

im pretty sure that you can do the same with nvidia, but im very sure that you would have to run in 2 way sli because the high card has to go down to the level of the lesser card

or you could use the 9800GX2 as the "graphics card" and the GTx+ as a "physX card)

which would technically be "tri-sli"

Is using SLI on 2 GeForce 8600 GT any good? better than one?

two would be better than one, but if you are thinking about buying another 8600, you would probably be better off with a new graphics card entirely.

You could do Sli with a 9800GX2 and a 9800GT (a 9800GX2 is just two GT's on one card) and it would be triple Sli.

In order to run Sli with Nvidia cards, they all need to be the same. With Ati cards, they can be different. But, the better card has its clocks changed to meet the lower card.

Sli is when the cards are working together on the graphics hence the Sli connector which groups the GPU's together. A 9800GX2 is still Dual Sli, just internally on the card.

running a triple SLi is really just a waste on the 3rd card. yes, im fairly certain it's possible, but not really worth the money (or effort).
stick with a double-SLi IMHO. by the way, are you running a dual-screen set-up, or just a single?

just a theoretical question really. was reading up on video cards and the idea of running a 9800 x2 and a 9800 gt in sli crossed my mine. a useless triple sli setup...but doable.
