I've seen some pretty nifty system builds here recently, so I thought I'd add mine to the fold. Basically, it's an i7 system, built under $2k at Newegg. Has everything a system needs, or at least that I need. I'm not a huge overclocker, though I will be overclocking just a smidge on the processor, probably to 3.0GHz. I will be buying this system in the very near future, so please feel free to make any suggestions, comments, etc...

NOTE: I currently have the same mouse and hard drive in the following list, so I don't need suggestions on those.

...
Well, there you go! Hope you guys like the build.

920 is always better than 945...
and you can overlocked it up to 3.8ghz which is just about higher than 945

your GC is the most expensive overall.. omg

I suggest these pieces , 1- because it cost less and 2- same power

Ram 6 Gb ozc 1333 Mhz: 140$ + shipping

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4350426&CatId=4093

750 watts is enough to run 2 cards

PSU 750 watts 4x6pin sli: 108$ +shipping

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3438609&Sku=C13-2503

Ah, but you see, I have 12GB of RAM for $209, as opposed to the suggested 6GB for $140.

I may want to upgrade cards eventually, and/or proc's, so I always have a more than sufficient power supply available, thus the 1000watt.

I will take the 750watt into consideration though. Thank you. :)

Ho sorry , didnt see 2x lol.

I don't think the new generation of cards will take more than 750 watts for 2 cards. They want to keep peeple buying their stuff.

Graphics Cards:

rather than getting two superclocked gtx 260's you should get two vanilla gtx 285's. A vanilla evga gtx 285 is only 340 on new egg and it will beat the snot out of a gtx 260. Do the overclocking yourself, its not worth the money to pay more for the factory to do it...

edit: NEVERMIND lol I didnt realize that was the price for both cards... DuH. But either way I would buy the vanilla version and overclock yourself, it will save you some money...

That's a pretty good deal for the GPUs. But if I were you, I would get another case.

looks like a nice build hope you like it when i comes

i also agree with the others about the corsair 750w psu, becasue corsair makes PSUs that are more reliable than antec nowadays, and 750w will be enough to run 2 5870x2's in CF when they come out

OMG! You just HAVE to put windows 7 on there! It's soooo sweet! It's the best thing since..well..ever!

Ah, for some reason I never took note of the vanilla 260's. It'll save me $20. Done.

I personally, would get a cheaper PSU and use the money saved to put towards a better mobo. That MSI one isn't terrible, but it isn't all that great either.

I'd recommended getting this PSU:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139006

750W is enough to handle your two GTX 260's

And with the money saved, I'd apply it to to get this mobo:

I've heard 'okay' things about ASUS. I've only used Biostar boards, but a few of my buddies use ASUS and they love them. The PSU looks great. I guess I just prefer to have extra power lying around for some reason.

Changed up those parts. We'll see what else happens. Didn't have to change the RAM, which is nice. Any other suggestions?

Really? For the money and amount of cooling/fans that case has, it's literally screaming at me to buy it. What case would you recommend instead of that one for around the same price?

Haha. I intend to put Windows 7 and the new Google Chrome OS when it comes out on this system. Dual Boot.

I would change the case to a Cooler Master HAF 932 $150
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119160

I would change that PSU to a Tuniq Ripper 1000w $90 (with rebate, originally 170)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817611009&Tpk=tuniq ripper
I have this power supply and it is amazing for the price, prob the best you can get for only 90 bucks. Cant pass up and offer like this.

I would change the motherboard to the Platinum version for only 10 bucks more $198 with rebate

If there is a Microcenter near you, they have a sale on the i7 920 for only $200!!!!
!

For your CPU cooler i would get a Scythe Mugen if ur on a budge. If not and u have the spare money GET A COOLER MASTER V10 it is a monster.

OR
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103056&Tpk=cooler master v10

RAM, any choice is fine

Video card....i do not recommend SLI GTX 260 for that much money. I recommend the ATI Radeon 4890 in crossfire, one of fastest setups available/it is also an overclocking BEAST, 1000mhz EASILY. If you must go Nvidia then i recommend SLI GTX 275 for the same price, faster than GTX 295 and way better than GTX 260 also cheaper. The SLI GTX 275 is slower than Crossfire 4890 just to let you know, especially when 4890 is OC.
ATI 4890 (x2) $340!!
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127427
Nvidia GTX 275 (x2) $370
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127429

For you hard drive i recommend getting a smaller size and putting them in RAID setup, faster performance.

For you monitor i recommend an ASUS 24 inch monitor, it is great for price.

All good recommendations. I have the HAF 932 and it's awesome. But be warned, it's HUGE. If you're the type that goes to LAN parties often then you might want to get the smaller HAF 922. I also stick with my choice of the Corsair PSU and Asus P6T mobo. As far as price:performance goes, the 4890's are a better value.

yea lol your already spending that much money so i guess you could go for quality and reassurance and stick with the Corsair, great PSU brand and i would have gotten it if i wasnt on a strict budget. And yes i also like the Asus P6 but get the one that supports both CF and SLI just incase you want to switch between brands.

QFT.

Definitely get reg Asus P6T or the P6T Deluxe. Don't get the SE version that only supporst CF. I mean, it's not a bad board, but it is just really nice to know that you can run ATI or Nvidia hardware if you want to instead of being limited to one or the other.

So would you guys say that Crossfire 4890's would be the way to go for this build?

I do go to LAN's occasionally, so the smaller HAF 922 would be the best choice then?
