Remember that 3ghz on one processor is a totally different thing than 3ghz on another processor. That phenom processor is not a good investment. For $80 you can get a really nice am3 dual core, or save an extra $50 and get a new am3 quad.

The cpu failed because it is a pentium, and not a core 2 duo. I don't know if it will run or not, but do some googling to find out. If I had to guess, I would say it would work.
