Is a 360 worth getting now?

I've always been primarily a PC and Playstation gamer. I like a lot of the games that come out on the Xbox, but usually they find their way to the PC eventually. Now though with Halo 3 on PC looking unsure and ODST and Reach coming out, is it time to invest in a 360?

I don't know too much about the Xbox live service beyond what I've seen of Games for Windows Live. Is it worth paying the fees?
 
if u dont have a ps3 get one of those instead. if u do. then u can get a 360 if u want one, its not really necessary. All the best games are on both consoles and ps3 internet is free where xbox live u gotta pay for. And ps3 is blue ray.
 
it depends, how badly you want the games. the fact of paying monthly fees to play a game i already paid money for is not cool to me. PS3 bluray is great to have, and the ps3 is starting to have more exclusives. Not to be a fanboy though the PS3 still doesn't have the community that XBL does, but since most of your gaming is PC you are already in the best community for gaming so its up how much you want to play those exclusives.
 
ps3 online community in my experience is filled with more mature people. whenever i play on xbox live i get alot 12 yr olds (or very immature adults) who curse me off when they lose at something. PS3 ive never had any online problems.
 
What about for online sports games (Baseball Football)? X-box is the way to go?
 
Xbox prim, shooters.. 50$ for gold yearly, better online play less maturity... more players, alot of unique and love titles.
PS3, less online, free though, maturity generally better. less good titles more platformers, few GREAT FPS's.

I guess it depends on how much you'd think you would play it. I have a 360, and I play it all of the time because some of my friends have them and they're fun to play online with. but trust me when i say this, if its halo 3 you want it for, I hope you want it for the multiplayer. the storyline sucks on it.
 
I have a 360 and I enjoy playing it, in fact it saw most of my gaming time this past summer.

It seems to me almost every major game is on both systems, so it comes down to how much you want to play the exclusive titles like Halo ODST.

I don't mind paying for xbox live, I do think it's worth it but that's me. For that it mainly comes down to how much you will play online. If you plan on taking your xbox gaming online a lot then you'll want it, if not you won't need it.

The gaming community for xbox live isn't really that different from a non-eGO server, but at the same time we have threads like the "post your gamertag" so you can stock up on eGO's! pretty quickly to help with that.

Get a 360 if you:
  • like things that break frequently
  • like waiting for packages
  • like replacements that break just as frequently as the original
  • like games that are on most other consoles
  • like exclusive titles that arent good.
  • like paying monthly fees for your online
 
If you love valve. Get the 360. Online is great, its updated everyday and it has a huge marketplace.

And this thread is about getting a 360 not how good a ps3 or 360 is.

I don't play online with my 360 since i don't want to listen to little kids cry and whine about how they are getting pwned or listen to them gloat about how they are pwning me =P

However the 360 is awesome i think the PS3 is better though. I like the way the new metalgear looks on the PS3. But i only own a 360 no PS3 but the 360 is worth it if you want to play games in HD assuming you have a LCD or something like that. PS3 has HD too i know. Geeze.
 
360 has a much wider selection of games, and much more people in them, also left 4 dead on 360 is awesome, And Fable series, Just get a 360. :)
 
come on gang, we can be civil in our discussion here, leave the console war stuff out of it.

I do really like the Halo games. They seem a lot more unique than most FPS games. If they're not going to be ported to the PC going forward then I'll probably succumb and get a 360 eventually.
 
I was torn between the two and ended up getting a 360 last week. I have NO regrets! I previously lived in a house where my roommate had a PS3 so I've played a lot of PS3 and learned enough about their online experience. XBox live has proved to be a great service, especially if you have friends that have live, the party mode, voice chats etc are all great and integrated very well. NetFlix streaming is AMAZING! That is the primary reason I went with the 360 in the first place. It also works great streaming all of my media files from my server, pc, and laptop to the tv in the living room. All in all the 360 is a great device and I'm in love with it.
 
I forgot to add, if you are running a Media Center style setup on your desktop (ie. tv tuner cards etc.), the media center extender feature on the 360 blows the dlna streaming capabilities of the ps3 out of the water. They both work fine for streaming movie files (though the ps3 interface seems to load the file list much slower), but media center frontend is sweet once you have it setup.
 
i dont want to bring out the stupid fan-boy debate ps3 vs 360, but, you got to admit that, even tho ps3 is free to play online, it does suck, while on the contrary, ppl still continue to pay for XBL, cuz its better on the online department(btw, only bringing out the online focus of the consoles, not the HD capacity, blu-ray or HD player)
