from these leaked benchmarks, the ATI 5850 matches up against an Nvidia GTX 285 and beats it in all cases.

The ATI 5870 beats the GTX 295 in almost all cases except for Crysis and Far Cry 2 along with some other games.

These look very promising, can't wait till it comes out which should be very very soon, was expected 9/22/09 but im guessing it may be coming out within a week.

I especially can't wait till the 5870x2 comes out along with benchmarks, gonna be eying that card and hopefully buy it.

wow. im glad to see more benchmarks of this, the 5850 is so powerful for only $250

yea remeber the GTX 295 is a 2 in one and the 5850 is just one card and it beats it in almost most games, crossfire would definatly be dominating

That means the 5870x2 is gonna be a beast of a card I can't wait to see what Nvidia comes out with to match these cards

Tom's Hardware released it's benchmark test in Italian today, since the non disclosure agreement is still in effect for the US. The English version of the review should be out in a few days as the NDA expires.

They show the 295 only being bested by a pair of 5870's in Crossfire. The single 5870 still trails behind the 295. For some reason, they didn't test a pair of 295's in quad SLI. Hopefully, the release of the new ATI cards will make the price drop somewhat on the GTX 295 so I can pick up a second one for under 400 bucks :)

yea people dont get too exited nvidia wont let this go away the 300 series are coming soon dont pick one of these up as soon as they come out lol

The 5850 is gonna be $250?? i thought it was supposed to be $300 but w/e the cheaper the better.

As for the Nvidia GTX 300 series, speculation has said that the DIE size is going to be very large once again and the talk has been if they will be capable of fending off the 5870x2. The problem is that since the DIE size is so large, it has so far not seemed possible to put two chips on one card, basically meaning, there won't be any dual chip cards like the GTX 295 for Nvidia so far. What has been known is that the GTX 300 cards are expected to beat out the ATI 5 series single chip cards, so basically, the GTX 300 cards are supposed to be faster than the ATI 5850/5870 but it doesn't seem possible that they will be beating the ATI 5870x2 so far, but time will tell if they are able to shrink that DIE size to make it possible for two chips on a card.

As for now, ATI FTW!!!!

The GTX 300 cards aren't expected till 2010 giving ATI a big lead.

Reading the benchmarks from tomshardware, i wonder how they will perform once the final version of the 5870 comes out and full drivers also. The benchmarks are very promising so far though. Some of the games are bottlenecked like RE5 and GTA when u look at them.

didnt you post a link somewhere where it said it was $250 for the 5850 and $300 for the 5870?

I hate the fact that the new cards exhaust air into the case :(
The new gtx 295 co-op does the same thing. I'm trying to get hot air OUT of my case, not put more back in it.

ya i was just seeing that, and thinking the same thing
be great when these cards come out, for so little money too, can get a 4870/90 for real cheap and just overclock it. be more than enough for my needs

the only thing i am disappointed with is the memory bus. only 256-bit? still?
i would have liked to see the 384-bit or higher.

Yeah but look at it this way, they have room for improvement. If they're this beastly now, imagine what's in the future :O
