Anybody know of a good source for parts? I need to get 2 CCFL backlights for a desktop monitor. Any help would be great!

Jeff

Those will most likely very hard to find, most people just buy new monitors when those break? The monitor must be over 5 years old if that broke, how old is it?

Are the backlights themselves broken, or just the inverter for them. If the inverter is broken, i would check on ebay or other sites that sell used parts. If it is the backlights themselves, they might be built into the LCD, in which case they are an utter pain to replace. If they are separate, I would suggest finding backlights for the same size screen, or making your own (custom LED backlighting for the win!).

This. I don't know anybody who has ever tried to repair their monitor. When they break you buy a new one. This is comparable to trying to solder stuff onto a mobo that is broken. No one does it. It's safer and easier to buy a new monitor. Sorry yours broke though.

Hey, I happen to be one of those nuts that tries to repair broken monitors. I am successful sometimes and fail other times. The main benefit of fixing a good, older monitor is it gives you a few more months-years, which could mean getting a significantly better monitor for the same price or less than today.

Well I wish you good luck in your search. If mine gave up I'd use it as an excuse to get a bigger one.

I've got them out and being a maintenance person I just hate throwing away something I can fix. I will probably give it to somebody who needs one if I can fix it. I have put together a few cheap systems for peeps that couldn't otherwise afford it. this one is only 3 1/2 years old and I have another just like it. I bought 2. If I can't get them easily I will probably save it for parts. (but don't tell my wife) LOL Not that I hoard stuff but I still have a 56k modem somewhere.

I save car parts I know I probably will never need again. So I can't say much.

I'm guessing you monitor is out of warranty, often times you would be surprised at the customer service they can give you in replacing/repairing your stuff.

If it's expired / you asked then....

Have you opened it up yet? You would be able to take a look at what can and can't be replaced and it would give everyone a better idea of what you are dealing with. If all else fails your monitor is broken anyways so you might as well poke around with it.

Ebay is a great source for parts.
