sorry to double post but I just had a convo...this is it..

me - I exist.
cleverbot - I support that, go for it, whatever you want.
me - Do you think Im stupid for saying that?
cleverbot - I think you're incredibly smart. Can I ask you something?
me - yes you can
cleverbot - No, I can't.
me - why?
cleverbot - I have no more to say.
me - Please ask me a question
Cleverbot - Do you like star wars?
me - Yes I do. Do you ?
cleverbot - Yeah. They're cute.
me - they're cute?....are you serious?
cleverbot - Yes.
me - Can I ask you a question?
cleverbot - Sure.
me - How old are you?
cleverbot - Old enough.
me - Can I have a date?
cleverbot - No have a prune instead!
me - wait...what? I dont want a prune, but thank you.
cleverbot - Could you use two?
me - No, can you tell me your age though?
cleverbot - No, but people on the 'net call me Angel, so you can too.
me - Why can't you tell me your age? Is it a secret?
cleverbot - My name is Bence, and what's your name?
me - I thought your name was Angel?
cleverbot - No its a different person at the computer now.
me - LOL. I Think I like you Bence.
cleverbot - I think you are in a good mood today, are you?
me - Actually I am. Thanks for asking, how about yourself?
cleverbot - Your welcome :) I'm okay. Thank you for asking.

For all who don't understand, "Cleverbot" is an AI-esque program that tries to communicate with you. Personally, I'm not convinced that there aren't people behind the scenes answering you, due to a few reasons:

1.) No unified, repeated responses.
Example: 5 different results for the question "A/S/L?" at different times.

2.) Relatively little ability to continue conversations over more than one input. Granted, there are a lot of people simultaneously using it, and this is a very tough thing to do, but its responses tend to be way off unless you repeat something in your input. In other words, little coherency.
Example:
Me: Hey, you're coming with me!
Cleverbot: I am not your prisoner.
Me: Yes you are. You belong to me.
Cleverbot: No you belong to me, Repeat I belong to you.

Granted, I specifically picked things that would be difficult for a computer to respond to. However, a few tests showed that inputting things such as song lyrics would give the next line, as we found out with Crazy Train and Bark at the Moon; Free Bird didn't seem to work. This would be consistent with not having experience with the subject, but a quick Google turned up the following, which was right in line with Cleverbot:
Me: Bark at the moon
Cleverbot: Years spent in torment

Overall, I'd consider it a good attempt to emulate a person, but the idiosyncratic nature of some responses leaves that to question as well as the clearly computerized nature of some responses, and to me suggests otherwise. However, your mileage will vary. Conclusion: It seems to be a fairly solid program, but I'm not quite convinced.

And for those wondering, yes, I'm an engineering student planning to go to graduate school for robotics, and I have done a little bit of work with machine logic and AI.
