Factory Restore

Some of you may have noticed that my PC has been a minimal for 2 days. The reason why is my PC got screwed up so bad for some reason, I had to do a Factory Restore I'll go into more details about it later some time. Right now I'm busy getting everything back (Steam games, Battlefield 2 etc. have to redownload them.) I will be spending alot of time redownloading and updating my PC. So I won't be on for a while. And like I said I'll go into more detail about it, I just want get everything back first, and reconfigure everything I had previously.

The best way to stop this problem or at least stop it from re-infecting your restore, is to do whats called zero-out the data on your hard drive. It will completely wipe your hard drive, so well in fact that no matter what, the old data can never be recovered. Factory restores are ok, zeroing out your hard drive is better.

reformat it and reinstall windows or whatever OS your useing or put on a new OS.

It's called "writing zero's" or a "low-level format". It's a more inclusive format then just "format c:/". And it's for good. Sometimes virus' can write themselves into a drive so that they aren't erased by a simple format.
It's a good idea, but it sounds like he's already reformatted and reinstalled, so it's a little late for a LLF.

Yeah your right, But next time it happens he should definitely format his drive by Writing zero's. He would need to get a third party program that boots from a CD to do it, because I don't recall the Windows installer offering that level of formatting.

zeroing drives should be done five to ten times for proper effect. Reformatting doesn't actually delete everything.

so how do i do it if i don't have the discs for my OS. i bought my pc and it came with vista, i was never given discs.

Thank you for telling me that Commanding Officer. Because my PC is still broken after the factory restore. When it starts up and showes the hp logo, It shows this weird matrix background. Blue dots that's what they look like. But yea factory restore didn't do the trick try to do some of the heavy firepower stuff that Commanding Officer was talking about.
