This is actually disappointing to me; if Nintendo had a game distribution service with as many members as Valve does, Mario would be MUCH closer. It seems kind of unfair.

I realize that the contest isn't all that important, but doing it this way just defeats the purpose of voting. They might as well have just compared the amount of people who own Nintendo games with advertisements to the amount of people who own Valve games that can give advertisement popups... and, you know, Nintendo has none.

Maybe I'm the one taking this too far now, but this kind of thing rubs me the wrong way.

It's a contest on the internet, every company, every maker of every hero can utilize whatever they want from any standpoint to point it out to people. Valve deserves every ounce of credit for creating Steam, what may well be the largest method of distributing PC games in a digital format ever to exist. Valve knew a LONG time ago, we're talking years ago, exactly what Steam would do for them in the event that ever they needed a simple way to communicate with their entire fanbase.

Every company in the world had the potential to do the same thing. But while Valve was working on Steam, Nintendo was fiddling around with their Wii. This in no way makes the contest invalid, it's just a matter of who cares enough to make it happen. Theoretically any one of the companies could try to make an announcement supporting their hero. But that's up to them.

Besides, this fits Gordon perfectly, as it fits Valve. Lowly PC company - lowly scientist. Pull off something spectacular, lots of people take notice and hail you as a God. They both did it, and there's a reason they're on top of the world.

This.

I have to vote for Mario. Come on its freaking Mario.

Yeah, it's Mario...! The random...italian who's signature mustache finds itself in story after story...that...defies logic and has very little sensible plot? A plumber who's recognizable hat and stache earn him random favor with some universe lady so he can fly around without a space suit collecting stars that look more like pillows? ...so that he can forget everything he's learned in his previous games, gain a few more polygons in his nose, right before he turns into a piece of paper that because the developers say so, allow our fat italian friend to slide through crevices with fancy camera angles...?

Yeah, go...Mario. I guess. Still hasn't fixed a sink in his entire career.

...I think I'll stick with Gordon. Even Link knocks the crap out of Mario.

Wow I just read some comments on the poll on gamespot
and there are so many console gamers asking who gordon is and how it should have been master chief, ive lost faith in humanity.

HAHAHA, someone should repost that Gordon and Master Chief photo. Gordon is the greatest game hero ever!

This?

I'm just surprised that Megaman lost to Samus. It makes me :( and :crying:
Gordon Freeman is much better then Mario. Mario has become generic with 300 spin off games using him (most of which I still like)

Don't get me wrong, Gordon's sweet and all, but Mario is THE video game hero. He's been around since the NES, and must've saved Peach, like, 50 times by now.
