Yeah, It's about time we do. We've got a large enough playerbase that we can basically have people be playing at night as well as the "off-time" hours.

If our ranks start to drop dramatically, though. I think we should go back to seeding.

Seeding is no different than having bots. Sure we advertise 'No bots' but we have players sitting in spec, basically acting like fake clients.

The whole point, is that they're real people, not fake bots. I think thats what the whole point of it is =\. People taking their time to do it, not having some simulated machine do it for them.

It may be different to us, but to the average pub looking to play, bots = seeders.

its no fun to join a server and realize half the people you thought were there are actually just specs. Leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I dont believe it is good for our image...

I offer no solution, but hopefully this will give some perspective.

One or two seeders will bump a 20/32 server up to 22/32 in the server lists. This may be what makes a player decide to join our server instead of another server. Later, as the server fills completely, the seeders can be kicked. I believe this is the one time that seeding can be of some use.

I think it appears as though most Edgegamers agree that seeding an empty server is both pointless and dishonest. Seeding in this fashion will not help the server reach the "critical mass" of players needed to fill the server. Rather, if we inject 10-12 real players at a time in a server, that would help the server fill more quickly. A few of those players could then switch to seeding if they so desire, until such time as the server is nearly full.

I think we should stop.

I also think the award ribbon for seeding should be removed, since it would be unfair for those who can no longer obtain it.

A limit should be placed. It's going to end up killing the servers. Honestly, if I was a pub and saw 5 people sitting in spec, and no one playing, I'd probably go somewhere else.

The ribbon is more of a thank you from the leadership for trying to get the servers full. If it was removed, it should be changed to one that reflects people getting others to play, rather than just seeding.

Yes i will give us a greater rank with people playing on it, but the thing is, is that we seed to get high ranks, that makes people come but when people come to play on eGO servers they would think... "wth whats this so called high ranked server?" and maybe they would not trust eGO and not come to play on the servers again. Also aren't we trying to be faithful and friendly to others? i personally do not think that Seeding is representing that. That is why seeders are seeding on a lie.

Yes I do believe we should stop. Due to my busy RL schedule I really only play at night/early morning and when I jump into a server excited for some playtime, I see just me and another pub player active and the rest of the server count is seeders. It ticks me off and the pubs are more irked about it than most of us think.

No, however there really should be a two seeders per server though...I dislike joining servers to find out that they are all AFK...

I don't know why we're adopting the counterproductive strategy known as server seeding.

Look, when people come in on what they expect to be a 5 man fight in the hopes of trying to seed the server and wind up playing 2v2 because two people are seeding, they're gonna leave almost instantly, and it gives us a really bad name.

Think of the storm when people start posting and complaining: " zomggg ego admins idling in their own servers!1!!!111!!"

The one thing this will do is cause our server score to drop when people join and then leave. If we want to seed, let's do it right, have our people go on the servers when they're not playing, invite some of their friends, and we're done.

Our current seeding policy, it's setting a dangerous precedent, it's tantamount to advertising fake server counts. And we wouldn't do that, would we?

The best way to figure out if this works or not is to suspend seeding for a week and see what happens to the server ranks. If the ranks fall then the solution is not really a solution.

Trial by error, that's what I always say :-)

This seeding policy has been in effect for a while now. Garden isn't talking about starting one, more about changing the current one.
Also, on the false advertising, I agree that 4+ seeders gives us a bad name, but people can click the info button and see that a score of 0 over 6 or more hours probably means that person is seeding. That, or the tag in their name.

I leave the server immediately when I log in and only see 3 or 4 people playing out of the 15 or 16 I thought were logged in.

If I weren't already in the clan, I'd be blacklisting the servers I see doing it.

Unless they are a regular on our servers, pubs will not know that someone wearing a tag is seeding. Half the time time they won't even know what seeding is and just label it as idling.

Obviously, the leadership is looking at this subject and is hopefully thinking of/considering ideas on how to make this better. As a heavy seeder, I look forward to a solution or alternate technique for this.

I think we should stop.

To be perfectly honest, seeding isnt any better than putting bots in there , imho. We are doing exactly the same thing really, as those other clans trying to remain in the top server ranks. Except we loose a certain amount of esteem and credibility by doing this, bring us down to their level which is a shame considering how proud we all are of ego and what we all stand for.
Its not honest and goes against what we try to achieve in ego. I can understand the reasoning around why you would have us seed, but in principle its dishonest .

I am quite happy going to a server with a few friends and get it filled up..its quite easy to do and players are usually more than happy to help out. Granted in the off peak hours its harder to keep the servers full, but incentives always help. I know we dont like to reward people all the time for their help but players like casino cash and little acheivement awards, those never hurt !

Its normal to worry about server ranking, but I believe that if we get enough dedicted ego members involved we can get those servers hopping.

In fact, I would go so far as to challenge like minded members. Lets have some Server Starter Challenges going. I bet you cant populate a server quicker than me.. anyone wanna put themselves to the test and take the challenge .. we can go head to head to get the servers rocking.
