Well thanks to Uncle Sam (Tax Return Check) I will be getting a new graphics card. I checked and it said I have a PCI Express 16x connection thing or type of graphics card or something... What types of cards can I get? I've been checking out newegg for their prices and i've seen some good cards there, but i don't know which ones I can buy... also, will i need to buy anything else to go with it? I can spend between 250-300 total... what are some good computer upgrades i can get within this price range?

I have a Dell XPS Gen 4 if you need to know. I'll constantly be checking this thread so if you have questions i'll answer relatively quickly. THANK YOU!!!!

also, post links of good ideas! <3 U ALL!

I have a Nvidia XFX 9800 GTX and it runs amazing! Full HD video and I get 60-120 FPS depending on what game I play!!! Go for it!!!

NVIDIA 4 Life!

you probably already know this, but make sure you have room in there to fit whatever card you get, and if the power connectors go in the rear you'll need even more clearance :)

I'm immensely happy with my 4870 1GB, they can be had for around $125 now. I get massive FPS in all the games that I play, plus HD video playback is much smoother than with my old card. The HDMI with audio is a very welcome touch also.

If your Power supply can handle it and if you have enough room the new ATI 5850is around $250 at Newegg when its in stock.

I really like my Nvidia 9800 GTX+ 1GB for $160. Got it from NewEgg!

get an ATI 5850........definitly the best buy for the money right now in your price range. Its $260 and it gives performance better than a GTX 285 or exactly on par but mostly better.

Sapphire ATI 5850 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102857

You will need a PSU that supports it, 500w????
No reason to invest in old technology now considering how fast the new ATI 5 series are and since you have the money.

usually the XPS comes with a 700 watt psu

dell psu's are pretty good (read: stable not powerful)

I might be living in the past... I would suggest a 4870 with a non-stock cooling solution. I'm running it's little brother a 4850 on my computer and personally I think it's good enough for everything I do (I can play Steam games maxed with 200+fps). This is also a cheaper than the brand new 5850s. So I would suggest something like this for $150.

if your looking for something fast check this

well i use the ati radeon hd 4850 its a very nice card i havnt come accross a game i cant run in max yet . even wow is set to max everything and no lag and nice fps . check to see if your motherboard has the 790 chipset if so you can use ati hybrid crossfire system which uses both your main vid card and your onboard card its a sweet setup you may wanna upgrade your ram to if u dont have 4 gigs of ram (nvida cant do that :p)
