in texas you can give blood pretty much immediately after having a tatoo as long as it is from a place that is certified by the state board of health (which every commercial place would have to be)
EDIT: actually you might be mistaken, have you actually asked them if you could donate? because what you have just said, seems that way in texas too, cuz they ask "Have you gotten a tattoo in the last 12 months?" i always say yes (when its true) and i just tell them the name of the place i got it, and they let me give blood

I guess you are right. As of 2 years ago IL regulates tattoo shops so now you can give blood.

B+ Have donated blood a few times but not in awhile, perhaps I will the next blood drive, sometimes they have ice cream goodies!! pint for a pint, but I believe its one of those things everyone should do like vote, serve on a jury or some other way to be a good citizen.

a girl from my school was in a car accident and needed blood or else she would die, so my school hosted a blood drive and i donated. Feels good to help someone

Don't get me wrong, if my family needed the blood I'd donate it. But im not giving my blood out to just anyone. I have my own reasons and some people would view them differently than me.

I'm pretty sure that depends on location though, doesn't it? I'm Canadian, for example, I think the law down here might be different. Don't take my word for it, though--I don't know a darn thing about what the age might be.

most likely not. Did you get paid? also most plasma donations goes towards product testing - ie: shampoos, make-up crap like that. and doesn't actually help the medical industry. I'm not sure if this is always the case, but i do know its the majority, and why they are able to actually pay you. because they are making money off your blood through testing commercial products.

But I donate. Well, it's actually been a few years since I've donated, because of the pregnancy and the C-section.

I'm what the refer to as a bell ringer. I go in, I give blood, I pass out. I get extra cookies. I go back in a few months, I give blood, I pass out. Sometimes I even get an extra little juice box. But when I pass out, they ring that stupid bell to alert the staff that some one's down... Do you know how much that sucks? Yeah. It be THE suckage of the whole blood sucking event.

The last time Deets and I donated, we were at St. Mary Magdalen's, and decided (after I came to, and had my extra cookies) that we'd go grocery shopping afterwards. Bad idea. We were pretty much fighting over who got to push the shopping cart and hang on for dear life... usually we bicker over who *has* to push it. Yeah... fun times, fun times..

I've only had them ring the bell once - that was when the bandaid-with-a-cotton-ball-underneath that they put over the puncture came flying off and my arm started spurting blood on the cookie table....

I donate every chance I get. My blood is O negative, plus it has an antibody in it that is very beneficial for critically ill babies and children (the name of the antibody escapes me right now). My blood goes straight to the children's ICU, and I know they put every drop of it to good use. Knowing that, how could I NOT donate every chance I get? Give donating a try - maybe you have an antibody that will save a child's life too.

i've never gotten dizzy, or woozy whatso ever from giving blood. First time freaked me out though, cuz the needle is so big... but it ain't nothin' but a thang

they say to be careful after giving blood... its never affected me at all :-/

I usually donate platelets.

It takes longer, and they have to hook you up to this weird machine; actually, it's kinda neat. You get to see all of your blood pumped out and back in multiple times as they separate your blood. Kinda made me wousy the first time I did it, but it's really beneficial because it's the equivalent of making 5 regular blood donations at once. Oh, and if you try to be brave (stupid) and stand up immedietly after they unhook you, you WILL fall over. Something to do with having all your blood pumped out or something, I dunno

Thats a common misconception, many people cannot actually manurfacture blood plasma at all, or well enough to live without plasma donations. Donating plasma is just as important as donating blood and should be encouraged.

I've just realised that I'm in the UK saying this while in the US you might be right. However, I do know that many people are very grateful for plasma donors and would not be here without them

For many people its just a natural physiological response, you are hypovolaemic at that point (i.e. do not have enough circulating blood) and its causes strain on your heart and your brain can become slightly oxygen deprived.

As a wonderful way of remedying this your brain makes you pass out, you fall over and more blood gets to your head. Its a great reflex to have. Can be a bit embarrassing but she's certainly not the only one to pass out from it. (I have too, but that was after fasting for 48hrs before an operation and the nurse taking my blood forgot to ask about that)

I'd like to give blood in that hospital. i have donated once and they gave me an apple pie when i was asking for a cookie.:cursing:
