I don't qualify, as I have an uncommon genetic mutation that doesn't make me prone to losing blood in any way.

However, I would if I could.

Thats a common misconception

uk and us may be different. and it may not be the case in every situation... Say for example if you goto an actual hospital, or blood-bank to donate the plasma. But if you goto a "Plasma Donation" center (here in the us) i've been told its for product research. I mentioned it one time when giving blood at an actual blood bank, and they said "Oh you shouldn't do that, it doesn't goto hospitals, its for product research."

like i said. this is those places that ONLY get plasma, and advertise, and say they will pay you.

when in doubt. ask questions. If you want your body parts to goto a good cause. Ask questions. ANYTHING involving the medical industry (even if its for product research, they still have to be medically trained and certified, because they are drawing blood) then they have to have disclose information like that.

why do you pass out? psychological? or something else?

i've never gotten dizzy, or woozy whatso ever from giving blood. First time freaked me out though, cuz the needle is so big... but it ain't nothin' but a thang

they say to be careful after giving blood... its never affected me at all :-/

Thats awesome Gyps :">

You know, I don't think it's really psychological or psychosomatic. I'm not afraid of giving blood. I mean, I've gone back repeatedly. There was one nurse a few years ago who said it was a mild form of hypovolemic shock. Pretty much just means my body is sensitive to blood loss (duh! who's isn't?). As long as I'm thoroughly hydrated BEFORE I go in, and make sure that I don't rush to sit up afterwards, I can pretty much make it back to the "resting" area before I crash out.

wow. thats crazy... cuz i've given an entire pint in less than 5 minutes. and was able to jump up and go running around without the slightest bit of difference...
i guess everyone's different.
just the way you said it that you "instantly crashed" i figured it was psychosomatic...

just hyperactive nerve response i guess. fast acting shock. or something

I'm underage, hate needles, and I get extremely woozy even if they take one little bottle thing of blood(i got an allergy test and they tested my blood). But my family does donate every year(my mom, dad, moms sister, moms brother, and my dads 3 brothers all donate once a year.)
So I think by the time I meet the qualifying age, I might have overcome my fear of needles.

I havent because noones ever really gotten me into it + i dont like needles.
I guess i could try it, but i doubt anyone wants my blood.

As long as you're not diseased they want your blood.

I say this because they even take a smoker's blood. I do feel bad for whoever gets my blood, seeing as how all the hemoglobin has been made worthless by the CO.

I usually donate blood once a quarter, I would donate more frequently but it's kind of a hassle and I have a pretty busy life

I have Type O+ (if you need a special donation fly down here to Texas and I'll give you a pint :))

I am also on the Donor Registry here, my lungs are probably the only thing they won't use as I smoke quite a bit.. (who knows, maybe someone will take it as a last ditch)

I really like being on the Donor Registry, it feels good knowing that when I die my organs will save a few other people from dying. I'm not gonna use em when I'm dead anyways.

^good stuff

i'm on the Bone Marrow registry. I'm hoping a little kid that has leukemia matches up with me someday....
You think you're scared of needles? donating bone marrow is way worse....
but i'd do it. in a heart beat.

Yes back in my Senior year of high school, but I passed out by looking at the blood.

I havent in a while but I really should....

Im B+ btw... yea thats right B.e. Positive.
