Agent of Chaos:

We have accomplished everything we can on our manifesto. We?ve been dealing with Valve ever since our group started, then we met them in-person and now we?re at the point of concluding our discussions. Our goal wasn?t to steer people away from L4D2, it was to get Valve?s attention and have them support original L4D. We succeeded and that?s where our mission ends; nothing more or less.

The recently released Crash Course was just the start. Future updates will continue to roll in, and 4v4 matchmaking is first in line. Valve has confirmed to us that it?ll be available before the release of L4D2. Also don?t forget, we have another DLC pack confirmed for sometime in the near future and of course, there will be bug fixes. This is as good as it can get people.

As for Left 4 Dead 2 we are all aware it expands on L4D?s gameplay and takes it to the next level. Its successful sales only confirm that we?ll get to slaughter more zombies in future, not that we have failed. We understand some of you have a problem with its price tag. Personally, I?m quite surprised with the discount on pre-orders; A 4 Pack bundle brings it down to only $33.75 for each person. I see many people took advantage of this including "boycotters", but to be honest that?s a fair price. In other words, that?s what expansions cost. You can?t blame them for making this decision. Not everyone shared the same thoughts here.

Walking_Target and I have made a decision. I?ll let him to continue?

Walking_Target :

As Agent has said, we have reached a decision about this boycott.

Effective Wednesday October 21st 2009 at 12:00 PM Eastern Standard Time, this group will be closed.

People have lost sight of why we're here. The comments are always full of trolls, people bashing Valve and phishers. What is more, people are unwilling or unable to wait for Valve to follow through in any cohesive way. Valve is at least trying to make things right, there will be speed bumps on the way, however we will get there. Even if it is not as quickly as we would like. The boycott has served its purpose and it is now up to you all as individuals to decide what is right for you.

As a collective we have done more than achieve a few goals, we have paved the way for Developer-Community relations in the future. No matter what the press or other gamers say, we have made an indelible mark upon the future of this industry. You should all be proud, we certainly are.

Agent and I would like to invite you to follow us in our future endeavours.

You can find me at http://www.thecriticalgamer.net providing the gaming community with another outlet and

I thought the intention of the boycott was to make L4D2 DLC for L4D. The 4 pack is just a marketing scheme that valve would have done regardless imo. They are doing the same for Borderlands a 4 player co op. I truly don't believe the boycott succeeded with its goal.

Luckily I wasn't a boycotter and I have pre purchased L4D2

Yeah, it "Suceeded" in them getting a free trip to valve, then afterword they say everything is fine..

Weird...

Boycotting cry babies. It's only 40$ people...save off on a few 12 packs and you get the game.

Bleh. I usually see boycotts as pointless whining, but this one seems to have at least -some- merit. Or maybe I just want to give it the benefit of the doubt.

Sorry, it strikes me as whining and then trying to save face when the realization that either...
1) they can't help but want to purchase L4D2
and/or
2) they realize the boycott was pointless.

An exercise in futility and a last-minute attempt to puff up their chests and act like they did something heroic, that's all this 'boycott' ever really amounted to to me.

They have no merit. They just don't want to buy a 40$ game that will be far better than the original

I have no problem with the second game, I'm sure the gameplay will be amazing, but in my opinion the characters and weapons just don't have that same charm as the first ones did. That's my only problem with it; the boycott for it was pretty ridiculous so this is good to see.

im sorry but for me its more than just paying $40

What NORMALLY would just be an Expansion, and cost HALF as much, is now a Full Version Game.

It's too soon to push out a second L4D, The game hasent even been out that long for crying out loud. It's been EXACTLY A YEAR.

How often have you heard of a game, Make a second one and push it at full price and only implement a FEW new things with the exact same gameplay the very year after the first released game...

NEVER

Valve has a source engine fettish and it makes it Incredibly easy for them to make adjustments, changes, and tweakes and call it a new game.

I'm sorry but im tired of paying for games that seem like updates or mods.

All of their games are really starting to get boring. And paying full price for melee, new maps, new ammo, and new characters with a couple of, and i quote from valve, "Special infected?" No thanks, ill leave that to the few talented out there that could have done that in the exact same time on www.moddb.com

Valve, your starting to let me down.

ohh yeah, did i ever mention that all of their cash crop games have been mods in the past from other developers and companies?

shame they cant think of ideas on their own, or at least have the mindset to think of something original.

Although I am impartial to Valve releasing the game a year after its prequel came out, I most likely will buy this.

ever hear of ANY sports games? Everyone buys the next madden or CoD

being an old school gamer when expansions/mods were free, that is what this "new game" is, no thanks i'll spend my hard earned $40 on a real full game like operation flashpoint 2

its a freaking game.
its their choice if they want to release another game a year after the first.
its not your game, you have no right to complain to them about THEIR game and what they do to it.
if they make it really really bad then meh thats the way she goes.
and i mean a new game costs like what $60-$70 bucks?
thats not alot considering you pay alot more for like computer upgrades and stuffs like that.

*looks at 90% of console games*

Pssh... Consoles.

EDIT:

Also, I think people are missing the point of this "boycott." It even says in the OP they were never trying to get people to avoid buying L4D2. It was just an undesired stereotype placed on the group. Instead, their goal was for Valve to release DLC for the original game that had been promised, yet not delivered. Now that Crash Course is out, their wants have been satisfied, and henceforth the group is closing.

hmmmmmmm, wow has expansions........... sc2 will have 3............ and street fighter 4 is also going to have one...............

o just stop crying about it. people need money, money goes to develop games, the sales get more money, and people get payed with that money. if everything came out free as a DLC, well, there wouldnt be much games. i know some companies dont need to do that, but thats life, deal with it.

if you dont have $40, well tough. i mean people can boycott all they want, most of the times, it wont work.

so, what im trying to say, people need to grow up, some times it works, and some times things dont. but instead of boycotting about a 'game', there was a whole bunch of other stuff they could have been doing.

so think to yourself, "is help boycotting a GAME, really worth the time?"

My view:

They learned that boycotting/protesting over the internet isn't going to get them anywhere. while strong at first, it spiraled downward until it was pretty much just trolls and phishers leaving comments about the whole thing. There are exceptions, but most of it is at this point in their group.

Also, at their strongest, this group had what, 20,000 people? 20,000 isnt going to even put a dent into a game that is going to sell in the millions.
