New labtop

So after recent events, there is a good chance in my near future that i will be able to obtain enough money in my possession at one time to not only buy a new laptop, but also buy one that is capable of doing almost anything i want it to.

Right now the upper limit is 1800 USD. This thing must be able to play any video game to come out in the next 2 years, although not necessarily on high, it must be able to connect to the internet wirelessly, and it must also be capable of cooking me bacon in the morning before i wake up.

Ok, that last one isn't true but i would like for this thing to be a gaming rig, as well as being able to work on homework while in the class room, So in short, it must be powerful, and it must be a BEAST!!!! however, it cannot be over 17 inches, cause for a labtop, who really needs that. and having said that, weight is not an issue, i'm a big boy, i can carry this puppy around.

this is what im currently looking at right now, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220576 however it has been brought to my attention that the release of windows 7 in the next week or so will change this dramatically. plus it will be about 2 weeks before i know if i can even buy this thing.

Sorry this has turned into a wall of text, but what do the powers at be this of what i am looking at now, and is there anything else that might offer me more perportional to the increase in cost?

Its going to be really hard to find a lap top that does what you want it to.

Go to lenovo.com Select your country and everything and search around in their laptop/notebooks section. I saw a really good laptop in there a while back when I was looking around. And im pretty sure it had enough memory and everything to get work done when needed.

I dont completely understand what you mean. I posted a link to a computer that i have heard from the reviews does exactly what i want it to do, at about 500 dollars cheaper that what i budgeted for.

Im just asking for others feed back on it, or if they have something that offers a little more kick for not to much more money.

LOL IM sorry man. I must have missed the link. I would say if it does what you want and your able to buy it Go for it. I mean if your confident that It is what you want I see no reason not to buy it.

If I was you, I would wait about 1-2 months and get an i7 laptop. I know that hp, dell, and msi already have models going for preorder.

I have a p7805u (a few models down), and it's very very pleasing. I'll let you know how it handles Borderlands in a few weeks if you want.

wait for the new i7 CPU's..........your budget allows you to get one and maybe a DX11 card will come out also for the laptop, who knows. The new i7 CPU's for the laptops are crazy fast and they are completely worth it.

He wants to play games for the next 1-2 years. Most games are supporting dual cores now, some support more. It's only a matter of time.... Having 8 threads will probably keep him up to date for the next 2 years.

14.1 is kind of small, 250 is kind of small, processor speed 2 GHZ, isn't exactly what im looking for. Plus, I've bought refurbished phones, and they haven't always been the greatest experience, it'd prefer to go with something new. Thanks for the link, but I am thinking of this as an investment for the rest of my undergraduate years (2.5 years), and i don't really see this thing doing all the things i want it to that long. but again, thank you

I'm not gonna lie, as far as my limited understanding of compurter can tell, that is a really good computer. uhhh, if i have to be picky (and i do ) that stil has vista on it, any idea when/if it will be avaliable with windows 7. also, i'm starting to move towards the idea of the i7's so yea.

Now to my main point, can someone explain the i7 a little more, i googled it, but i feel i only scratched the surface. Also, someone said i have the budget for it, can i get a rough estimate? cause if it's close to 1800 dollars, i want to know im getting 500 dollars more for this than the two im currently looking at.

It's a quad core processor with Hyper Threading Support.
"A processor with hyper-threading enabled is treated by the operating system as two processors instead of one"

Therefore, you have "8 processors" in your task manager.

I've read this yields 15-30% performance gain.

"According to Intel the first implementation only used 5% more die area than the comparable non-hyperthreaded processor, but the performance was 15–30% better."

It doens't even matter if its a quad-core and if games support it............generally now, from benchmarks and all even a slower clocked quad-core is faster than the duo-cores.......the i7 for lappies are also gonna have a crazy turbo mode that bumps the speed up to over 3 ghz

So yes...just wait for the i7 to come out, you can get an Alienware M15x with the basic i7 quad core and a 1gb GTX 260m for $1750 but i think thats a bit pricey.

Yes you are correct.....hyper-threading basically doubles the amount of cores virtually.......basically u have 4 cores but 8 threads so virtually 8 cores

the other 2 computers definitly won't last 2 years but they have like a %50 chance i believe. It depends what games your gonna play though. You will definitly see a performance increase with the i7. All im gonna say is, what games do you expect to play on your laptop, which ones your playing............and to go on google and read reviews about the i7 for laptops and compare it to the P8700

idk the exact games, all i know is that game producers will continue to produce games that require higher and higher machine specs.
