Optical Mouse problem

I just got a Microsoft wireless optical mouse. for some reason the cursor seem to jump around the screen from time to time. I tried another wired optical mouse from microsoft and got the same problem. I was thinking it might have something to do with me not having a mouse pad.But Im not really sure what the problem is.

If the surface you're playing on is glossy or reflective then it'll cause the mouse cursor to jump around horribly. You need a good textured surface that isn't glossy.

Well I had a Microsoft 3000 optical wired mouse that did that with me in game with a mousepad. I went out and bought a Logitec wireless lazer mouse and it works awesome. I'm guessing microsoft's optical mice just aren't cut out for gaming?

Or for anything..... Anyway it could also be a HID issue, (human interference device) Try updating your drivers for your mouse in device manager and update your computer if necessary. Oprah!

It all depends on the type of sensor they are using in the mice.

Optical mice use an LED (Light Emitting Diode) while Laser mice use an infrared laser diode.

I've found (with an optical mouse) that sometimes when you pick up the mouse, it does exactly what you are mentioning.

Really just a curse of optical mouse. If you want a good laser mouse, get a Logitech G5.

Check your Lachesis. Around the laser there might be a silver tape that messes with the laser. My friend had a Mamba with the same problem. You can just take it off, and leave it off or call Razer and they'll send you a black one to replace the silver one.

My desk is somewhat glossy, so I tried putting a blank piece of paper under the mouse, and now it works perfectly. I'll be sure to get a mouse pad soon. Thanks guys!

Yes, glossy surfaces, glass surfaces or even dust, can mess with the mouse. Mouse pads are a computer users best friend. :]
