<div style="width: 500px; text-align: center" align="center">The Call of Duty Division is asking for your help.

Saturday morning, the community manager for Infinity Ward dropped a bomb on the Call of Duty community during a podcast interview on BashandSlash.com stating there would be NO DEDICATED SERVERS and NO MOD SUPPORT in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Instead, you will be connected using an IW.net matchmaking system much like consoles use, essentially making everyone use each other as listen servers.
What this means for us is no dedicated server, no admins, no custom maps, essentially no community - basically everything that makes eGO great.

I am in awe of the lack of support for our favorite form of gaming.
If we want to play first person shooters on consoles, we would buy a console.

This is an outrage, and I am asking two things of people:

1. Click here to sign the petition.
It may or may not help, but it can't hurt to try.

2. If you have pre-ordered Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, cancel it.
The one thing that might persuade Infinity Ward is money. As they say, "Money talks."

This is a great community, and we have tons of players. Let's see if we can get the folks at Infinity Ward to change their minds.

Even if you don't play Call of Duty, imagine if this were to happen to your favorite game or possibly the next itteration of your favorite, i.e., TF2, DoD:S or CS:S. Can you imagine your game without dedicated servers?

We had high hopes for this as a new addition to eGO.
Unless me make an impact now, this is the future of PC gaming.

Thank you,

Here are the snippets:

We're doing a lot on the backend to make the game accessible for everyone.
There is no delay for the PC version of MW2
There's prestige mode
Jason West at the MP event, said that he was dead on, on the matchmaking servers. We've been building a system on the backend called IW.NET.
You are completely reliant on IW.NET. There are no server lists. There are no dedicated servers.
You have private matches where you can customize the game
You cannot put MW2 on a dedicated server.
This is the first time we've ever done something like this and the team has huge plans for what IW.NET develops into.
Customizing your game...you have quite a few options in a private match
You're getting same game (as in Console), plus matchmaking and private match.
Server admin point of view, NO DEDICATED SERVERS

:scared:I like custom games, but this is not good. If Team Fortress 2 was like this I wouldnt have joined this great community.:scared:

If they bring back dedicated servers for MW2, I will get it. But I'll probably want Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3 over any CoD.

Its hard for me to say this but I'm actually looking forward to Battlefield games if this is where the CoD brand is going. I absolutly hate Battlefield, it bores me to tears, but I'd rather play it than MW2.

My main problem with this is not the lack of mod support, I could live without that. The lack of adminning is bad, but my hugest gripe about the whole thing is the attempted destruction of communities here. They're taking away everything that makes teams what they are. They're taking away their common ground, their epicenter, and forcing PC players to roam about like an XBox 360 gang, from game to game.

If this goes down without dedicated servers, expect to see entire teams filled with clan member smashing up on random pub groups in the beginning. Which will cause players to quit in search of another game. Expect pings to be less-than-good with listen servers too. Since everyone is going to be running off the host's computer the only decent gaming you'll get is with small teams (4v4 or 6v6. You won't see 32 man games running decently)

The worst thing about this is the difference in hardware capabilities between players. Sure, some of us will be running rigs that get 100+ fps, but what about the guys who hardly top 30? Those players may end up as hosts, causing all kinds of slowdown for the other players. This kind of setup works fine with consoles because all of the hardware is the same.

Another thing we would have to put up with are kids screaming on the microphone, afk teammates, and rude/abusive players and BEING STUCK WITH THEM. Having to votekick these players off will take too much time and effort, things will degenerate into idiocy in every game you join.

You want an example of how matchmaking works on PC? Look at L4D. It has NO community at all. I stopped joining random games long ago, because of the lack of teamwork and familiarity between players. I want to play with my friends, and having to do that via private matches is stupid.

IW has made it clear that they would rather pandor to the larger market ("casual" gamers) than be loyal to the fanbase that made them what they are (the so-called "hardcore" players)

I take particular offense to being labled a hardcore gamer. I like to play the game, I like to win, but hardcore gamers are the ones who are competitive and play for money. They are the ones playing for 8 hours a day. I want to come home after working and play a few hours befor heading to sleep. I want to chat with my friends and meet new people who visit servers I frequent. Just because I play on PC and want to have a home to go to every night when I log on doesn't make me a "hardcore" gamer. I would rather be called a community gamer.

I signed it. This type of politics will ruin a gaming community.

What a greedy world we live in.

Peace!

I signed it but i'm not canceling my pre-order.. I agree that it sucks and limits our option as an online gaming clan...

This is an XBOX 360 and PS-3 targeted title mainly i'm guessing....

But if what already in place for COD4 MW works i'm wondering why they would have a problem implementing similiar code..

But if what already in place for COD4 MW works i'm wondering why they would have a problem implementing similiar code..

One reason why they would consider making the game unmod-able is to force everyone into buying their map packs. They had to release the packs on the PC for free while they charged 15 bucks a pop for the PS3 and 360 versions. If players are unable to make their own maps then any additional maps would have to be released and downloaded through IW. It's easy money for them.

It's not that they couldn't add this code into MW2, it's that they didn't want to. By forcing all of the players to run through IW.net they think they can curb piracy of their games, but their number of "60% of PC players" as being pirated copies is totally wrong. There's no possible way that could be anywhere near the truth. 15 to 20% is more realistic.

One of the things I just don't understand about their decision (which is probably a bogus reason that they threw out there) is how they received complaints from the casual gamers. How they were too confused as to what servers to join or the skill levels were too spread out. COD4's idiotic ranking system of unlocking weapons is one of the causes of this problem. Instead of being able to select all weaponry from the start you're forced into these stupid tasks and XP to get your rank up, unlocking all of the weapons and skins becomes a task for newer players who get murdered on their first go.

Their timing with releasing WaW also gave casual gamers problems. Feeling the need to have to keep up many players picked that game up while MW was still going strong. The patching process for WaW is absolute garbage as well, the different versions floating around and two different COD titles being released within a year of one another makes for CHAOS among people trying to get into either one. That problem is multiplied when these players don't have any friends to play with.

In the end this is a horrible idea spawned from the complaints of casual gamers. IW's own mistakes (and maybe their greed) has caused this problem and now they are basically trying to dismantle communities with this half-baked plan of theirs. At this rate I may never buy another Infinity Ward or Activision game again.

Sorry if my train of thought is bouncing all over the place. I haven't slept yet and it's really early.

I'm still getting the game.

I'll be glad to see an end to clan run servers. The rules of the game change depending on what server you play, and sometimes depending on the mood of the admin.

I predict the multiplayer component of this game will be bigger than ever. I hope so, anyway. maybe other companies will follow IW's lead.

but if you like that then why not just get a console? leave the PC communtiy the way it was. ;) :):P

Signed, and probably won't buy the game...even though I only played 1 for it's single player.

Signed

Signed the petition. I have cancelled my pre-order until this is changed, if it ever happens.

Ok, time for Frazar to add his 2 cents.
I understand that the CoD division would love you have MW2 as a lovely piece to their glorious puzzle. However, I do have a few great issues with the way this is presented.
I am Honestly shocked that you guys have to argue over a petition. Sign or dont sign it does not matter, but dont go and argue with peoples decision. This thread is closed -Zergspower
This bothers me, honestly. Isn't a petition arguing with Infinity Ward's decision? So we are not entitled to disagree with someone's disagreement with Infinity Ward (poorly worded, i know). I am slightly angry with the fact that you are telling me I cannot disagree with anyone. That is all I want to say on that subject before I go too far.

This brings me to my next point. Do you think Infinity Ward is made of infinite money (no pun intended). They have probably pumped loads of money into this system. The release date is November 10th... almost 3 weeks away, do you think that this little petition will make them flip a little switch and put it back to dedicated servers? This will probably cause the game to be delayed for a while... because from what I have read they switched this to the Matchmaking system early in development... when they announced it they hoped it would be a pleasant surprise for the gaming world... instead all of you freaked out.

So im sorry... Im sorry you cannot handle just a little innovation. a matchmaking system for a PC game is a hit and miss concept. Possibly they would hit a home run. We will never know now though, because all you scared people have canceled your orders the game will be quite bare. Or, people who are curious and think the game may be good. I do not agree with people that have not played the game yet and assume it will be bad. I know you want the eGO MW2 division... I sympathize, but this IS NOT an appropriate way to handle this... i am deeply disappointed that even members of leadership would result down to a petty petition and then threaten those who openly oppose (talking to you Zerg, still a little steamed). To tell people what they should and should not buy is just wrong... If this were presented in a more appropriate and respectful way... I would join in.

That is all I want to say... (apologize for poor grammar... I am tired and angry + no edit button)
