Hello all,

It's been a while since I play tf2.

Yesterday night I connected and was very surprised to find the 2fort non-IR server empty (well, there was someone, but he was AFK).

Honk came to the rescue and we started some good-old melee rounds.

Half an hour later people start getting in, and we finally got ourselves a game.

Of course my RED team won all rounds. And of course we kicked some serious butt. But that's not the point, so try to stay focus OK?

The point is, some people were complaining about very high pings (mine was the highest, but I didn't complain in-game). And we all experienced some bad lag at some point of the game.

Some of them said this all started when we moved to the new server and that's the reason why many stop using it. I heartily agree.

I don't know if anything can be done, but this post is hoping someone can do something about this.

Thanks.

Yeah, I know the lag is bad. I always was around 20-30 ping. The other night in 2fort I was 100+ This all changed around the time the servers was switched to Verizon. Maybe something is not configured right or the sever may just not like me. :(

It's all location.

Mistico, see the post in the eGO private forums for an existing discussion of this subject.

Mistico! Good to see you again amigo. I miss our epic battles in the sewers.

Honk is always good for a bottle fight. I know him IRL and the same goes for there too :scared:

Hey Idol! You were missed yesterday. The fight was epic.

But it was not the same without my arch-nemesis.

So what's up doc? Still a 2fort regular?

Yes I am. Same times as we used to meet on there. Since the regular spawn timer got moved to the server in California, I tend to lag out there. So I'm usually on the Instant respawn server; it's still in Texas. Saturday mornings roughly 9-11. That's eastern seaboard US which happens to be the same time zone as you my Peruvian friend.

2fort non IR has actually become one of my favorite servers. I don't usually encounter any lag there. Just my 2 cents.

Yes, I also have a better connection when I go to 2fort IR.

But I really get bored of it too quickly.

Mi love mi non-IR bad.

Anyway, I'll drop by sometime, dominate you and then leave.

Looking at the list of ego servers most of them have really unacceptable high ping levels >75 at any one time. The few that have between 30-55 are usually filled to the max (black messa, Egypt) and have wait times. More people would probably use the servers if pings were lower. When I look for a server I use ping as a main criteria in deciding to play or die from lag.

A little note about pings: in my limited experience I have found they are relative to my distance from the server. I mentioned that when 2Fort Reg got moved to one of the FIOS servers out in California (free btw; thank you Verizon) my ping suffered. I also mentioned that I tend to play more on the IR server because it's in Texas. Now I have no great love for Texas, nor any ill will towards California, nor to I have any particular like nor dislike for either server box. However, I live in Florida. The server in California is about twice as far away from me as the server in Texas. It is completely understandable to me that my ping is higher on servers that are further away. I'm certain if I lived in Oregon I would be reaping the benefits of the server move to California.

My apologies if anyone thought that I was complaining about lag or unacceptable servers or faulting eGO for not tailoring the servers to fit MY needs. Sure, I would love a reserved "Idol only" slot on the new 2Fort server eGO plans* to locate in my closet and route through my LAN so my ping is -1. But I'd also love if my job paid me more in return for me working less. Thank you eGO for providing me with FREE servers to game on. Thank you Verizon for providing eGO with FREE servers to pass on to me. Thank you Dominion and GGVW for your dedication in keeping those FREE (to me anyways) servers up and running. It was never my intention to gripe about any of this. It's my own fault for living in Florida.

*Idol has a hard time distinguishing between his own delusions and "official plans" of eGO. But this should be obvious. Just look at his avatar: it's a freakin' Batman action figure riding a plushie unicorn. This guy is not well-balanced. I'm surprised he hasn't put butterfly wings on Batman yet.

Amen to all of that.

Yes, I do miss 2fort non-IR being closer to my location.

But I love eGO servers for the people who plays on them.
And I know eGO leadership do the best they can.
And for these I am thankful.

So Idol...

When is this new 2fort non-IR server in your closet going online?

Great post Idol. I agree with everything you said.

People need to understand that we need to have servers in more than one location. We have members from all over the world. Some people have >100 ping because they live in other countries. They dont complain. They just play and have a good time.

I used to play TFC and original CS on 33.3 DIAL UP and I did ok. I was happy to have a ping in the 200 - 300 range on ANY server.

EGOs mission is to provide a mature, punk-free gaming environment. They do that for us all wonderfully. It is not their job, nor in their power, to please every single one of us 100% of the time. They do what works best for the community as a whole.

Remember, it costs you NOTHING to play on EGO servers. You foot the $2000+ bills every month and then you can start making decisions.

I'm sorry, but this kinda stuff /really/ annoys me. +150 ping usually on all servers, more on the newer ones. Being a Euro gamer you kida get used to it. On EU servers I rarely get less than 70 anyway...

Mistico and I finally managed to link up for some epic small team battles on the IR server this morning. Poor BoomShaka got caught up in the mix.

What this screenshot doesn't show is that all 3 kills to get that domination were Hadouken. Okay, so maybe I'm spawn camping just a little bit. But that was just on the last kill; honest.
