Ok guys, I have hl2 ... aaand when I click to start it, the screen goes black and then the game crashes, i re-downloaded it and still the same thing... any suggestions why this is happening ?

I tried to run it in 32bit, still crashes.....
i put this in a command line (-no -dxlevel 90 +mat_forcehardwaresync 0) -should help but it still crashes....

I would still recommend updating your video card and sound card drivers, and your directx version.

What OS are you running? 64 or 32bit?
Which part of the loading screen does it crash at?

Shadow : I got it from teh orange box ( meaning i didnt "borrow" it..) aaand giraffe im running a 64bit and it crashesh in the begining as soon as the screen gets black...AND my directX version is 10..

If you are running Vista or 7, it comes standard with DX10.(I assume 7 is just like Vista) You need to download the latest DX9 because DX10 does NOT contain DX9 stuff.

I have the idea maby. I had the same problem. TIll i found out My firewall was asking something.
Try to put off your firewall. Or if posible, try to put your firewall in game mode. Zonealarm can do that.
