Kind of a rebuttal thread to the other Huntsman thread, in particular the ones who say the huntsman is the more tactical weapon.

Show me a huntsman sniper that can completely dominate a game like a regular-rifle-using-sniper, as demonstrated below in the -AA- video, and I will no longer call it the lucksman and harp on you guys, and I might actually consider using it more often. I've spent a total of 20 minutes using it before I decided it was garbage.

Good luck.

NOTE: Yes, this video is a repost, but if you're going to nag on me for that, then you completely missed the point.

2nd NOTE: I have played with several members of this clan, and can personally vouch that they are in fact, that good. Any claims of hacking are completely unwarranted, and will be treated as such.

Just because the skill ceilings on the rifle and huntsman are different doesn't mean the huntsman is rubbish.

I don't think that the huntsman is bad, it is just easy to use, and the hitbox almost always guarantees you a headshot.

Show me and archer that can headshot scouts like that and I will never bash archers ever again...The rifle hitbox for headshots is really small unlike the huntsman where you can shoot near the head and still get the headshot...
On a side note, I like that electronica first song...Hahaha

Looks like you've picked your choice of words carefully...

Show me a rifle-using sniper who can destroy level 3 sentry guns faster than the huntsman and you've got a deal, the simple fact is that at times, the huntsman is a fully viable weapon for use at times where closer support is needed.

They're two different weapons for two very different styles of sniper play, the rifle is generally better (for the record, I am a rifle person who switches to huntsman).

The idea is that people should use rifle and switch to huntsman as needed, not use huntsman and switch to rifle as needed.

Let's face it, if a huntsman is a luck weapon, then rockets, pipebombs, and stickies are even more so, heck, if we wanted, we could call the syringegun a luck weapon. It's all about prediction of enemy movement, and since rockets and grenades travel slower than an arrow and don't have splash, there's even less of a luck element.

Of even further note is that until it was banned, several competitive teams (TF2F, Balloons) had actually considered the usage of a huntsman sniper replacing the usual pocket soldier.

No, I'm not making a typo, the huntsman sniper was once considered as a viable replacement for the lynchpin of any competitive team.

Unless, of course, that lynchpin relied too much on "lucky" rockets.

Well, the thing is...Neither the rifle nor the huntsman can take out a SG solely by themselves if they engy is on it. Yes the huntsman charges faster so you can do more damage over time but with the rifle, you can take out the engy first and then aim for the SG after. Sure you can take out the engy too with the huntsman but chances are, youre going to hit the SG instead of the engy since the huntsman has such a large hit radius. Its not as if the weapon is completely horrible, its just the way people use it that makes others hate it so much.

No half-decent engineer would tank his gun standing up though =P

Your point hit the nail on the head, the weapon is not a bad one, it's the way people spam it which gives it a bad name, think about this:

The grenade launcher is one of the best weapons in the game, yet it's often spammed by noobs who kill people by luck.

As for Luxmortim's point, I thought about this over dinner: If you're trying to use the huntsman the same way your use the rifle and you find yourself not killing anything, try considering this: they are two different weapons, why the heck would they work the same way?

There's actually a small gap in between the rockets and the machine guns where you can shoot through to hit the engy if hes sticking out either too much to the left or right of his gun...If he's standing perfectly in the middle, well then...Jarate from a distance and run? -_-

I use the huntsman really frequently when there are a lot enemies I need to take down fast or at short range. And I actually am capable of aiming with it. And yes, I can consistently headshot scouts at any range with it. Just ask any scouts that have played against me. They're my first dominations in games.

The real test of the huntsman though, is can you take down the medic/other guy teams in the right order. And yes, yes I can. I can always shoot an arrow straight by the heavy/soldier/pyro's head and right into the medic's melon.

So in short, yes you can be a viable force with the huntsman. And you do so by leading shots, using the few arrows you have wisely, and not spamming arrows. Spamming arrows is an easy way to get a kill or two every now and then but it is by no means a good way to be helpful to the team. Honestly I can get at least 5 kills minimum out of every stock of arrows.

Rifle is for long range suppression fire way back behind the front lines.

Huntsman is for mid to front line suppression fire.

That is kind of my point though, any decently skilled sniper should be able to use the rifle in the same environment and situations as any huntsman sniper.

Which, in my opinion, makes the huntsman absolutely worthless to me and any other skilled snipers.

Uhmmmmm...

No.

Got ambushed by a Heavy, what are you going to do?

If you were the Sniper Rifle guy, you'd be dead. If you were scoped in, you probably wouldn't even have noticed he was there.

If you were the Huntsman guy and you had your arrow drawn and charged, the Heavy would die.

Sniper Rifle = medium/long range
Huntsman = close/medium range

And they should both be used with a very different attitude in mind. There's a reason I use Jarate as a Huntsman Sniper but SMG as a Rifle Sniper.

I'll shoot him in the head, dance around him with the kukri. Problem solved.

I like how I can run around maps and see random corpses hanging from walls and stuff.

That wouldn't work and you know it.

I disagree. I've done it several time. You under estimate the skill level of myself and several other rifle snipers. Which is fine with me, I'll take it as a compliment.
